Why Redmi 8 Pro is slowing down and how it relates to memory
Your Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro is getting hung up, apps are loading for a long time, and the system is giving a notification โNot enough memoryโ? The reason is almost always clogged storage. Even with 64 or 128 GB of internal memory, the device can run slowly due to system debris, app cache and duplicate files. A particularly pressing problem for users who are actively shooting 4K videos, installing heavy games or not following MIUI updates.
Unlike the flagship models, the Redmi 8 Pro has limited resources: 4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 636 processor, which are sensitive to storage overload. When less than 10% of the available space is left, the system starts using internal memory as virtual RAM, leading to lags and sudden reboots. The solution is one โ a comprehensive cleanup. But how do you do it right without deleting important data?
Method 1: Manually cleaning the application cache
The most secure method is to delete temporary files (cache) that accumulate during the operation of programs. Cash speeds up the launch of applications, but over time takes up gigabytes of memory. For example, YouTube or TikTok can store up to 1-2 GB of unnecessary data.
To clear the cache:
- ๐ฑ Open the Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management.
- ๐ Select the application (start with the most โheavyโ โ social networks, instant messengers, games).
- ๐งน Press Warehouse. โ Clear the cache.
- โ ๏ธ Do not click Clear Data โ This will delete accounts and settings!
For mass cleaning, use the built-in MIUI tool:
- Go to Settings โ Memory โ Cleanup.
- Click Deep Clean and select unnecessary files (app residues, advertising debris, duplicates).
- Confirm the action.
๐ก
If after cleaning the cache, the application began to work slower, restart the smartphone - the system will restore the necessary temporary files automatically.
Method 2: Remove duplicates and unnecessary files
Photos, screenshots and downloads are often duplicated or unclaimed, such as messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp) saving media files to the Download folder, and Google Photos can create copies in the cloud and on the device simultaneously to find and delete excess:
- ๐ผ๏ธ Use the standard Gallery app โ Albums. โ Duplicate (in) MIUI 12+).
- ๐ Check the folders. DCIM โ Camera (photo/video), Download (download), Pictures/Screenshots (screenshot).
- ๐ต Remove unused audio files from Music or Ringtones.
For automated search of garbage suitable third-party utilities:
| Annex | Functions | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Files by Google | Search for duplicates, large files, clearing cache | Play Market |
| CCleaner | Deletion of temporary files, storage analysis | Play Market |
| SD Maid | Deep cleaning of system folders (requires root) | Play Market |
โ ๏ธ Note: Do not manually delete files from Android folders, MIUI or system โ this can cause a failure MIUI and loss of functionality!
Method 3: Transfer data to a memory card or cloud
Redmi 8 Pro supports microSD cards up to 512 GB, which allows you to offload internal memory. However, not all data can be transferred: applications (except for some games) and system files will remain in internal storage.
- ๐ Bring photos/video: Open the gallery โ Select the files โ More. โ Move it. Choose. SD-map.
- Google Photos (up to 15 GB free)
- Mi Cloud (up to 5GB for Xiaomi accounts)
For automatic synchronization:
- In Google Photos: Settings โ Backup and Synchronization โ On.
- In Mi Cloud: Settings โ Xiaomi Account โ Mi Cloud โ Synchronization of the gallery.

Method 4: Cleaning System Waste Through MIUI
MIUI has built-in cleaning tools that users often ignore, and these features are removed:
- ๐๏ธ Residual files after deleting applications.
- ๐ฅ Unused. APK-files (installer residues).
- ๐ System logs and error dumps.
How to start a deep cleaning:
- Open Settings โ Memory โ Cleaning.
- Press Deep Clean and wait for analysis.
- Select all items (except Downloads if there are important files) and click Clear.
For advanced users, the Light mode (MIUI Lite) is available, which disables unnecessary system processes:
Settings โ Special features โ Lite modeBackup important data |Close all background applications |Connect the charger (process can take 5-10 minutes) |Check the free space after cleaning
-->
Method 5: Remove pre-installed applications (bloatware)
Xiaomi installs a lot of unnecessary programs on the Redmi 8 Pro: Mi Browser, Mi Music, Mi Video, games from partners. These cannot be removed by standard means, but you can disable or remove them without root through ADB.
Safe way (disconnection):
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select an unneeded app (such as Mi Browser).
- Click Disable (this hides it from the menu and stops background processes).
Radical method (removal via ADB):
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.browser # Removes Mi Browser
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.video # Deletes Mi VideoA full list of removal packages can be found on the 4PDA or XDA-Developers forums.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Removing system applications may disrupt the work MIUI! Before the procedure, create a backup copy through Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset.
Method 6: Reset to factory settings (last chance)
If previous methods have failed and there is critically little space (less than 1 GB), hard reset remains, which deletes all data, including accounts, photos and settings, so use it only as a last resort.
Step-by-step:
- Backup: Photos/video โ in Google Photos or on PC. Contacts โ export to VCF via Google Contacts. Messages โ use SMS Backup & Restore.
- Settings โ About the phone โ Reset settings โ Erase all data.
- Enter your password (if installed) and confirm.
After discharge:
- ๐ Do not restore the backup completely โ select only the necessary data (photos, contacts).
- ๐ Install only the necessary applications, avoiding โjunkโ programs.
๐ก
Factory reset solves 90% of performance problems, but requires a complete reinstallation of all data. Use it if other methods have failed or the device is infected with viruses.
Method 7: Optimize memory to prevent filling
To prevent the problem from recurring, set up the Redmi 8 Pro to auto-optimize:
- ๐ค Turn on the settings. โ Memory. โ Autoclean (removes garbage when screen locks).
- ๐ Limit background activity: Settings โ Battery and productivity โ Battery management โ Selection of applications: Disable auto-start for unnecessary programs.
MIUI
Also useful:
- ๐ฎ For gamers: Use Game Turbo (Settings) โ Special facilities โ Game Turbo to limit background processes during play.
- ๐ถ Turn off automatic download of media in messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram).
