Xiaomi Redmi 7A is still a popular budget smartphone, but its modest 2 GB of RAM often becomes a bottleneck. If your phone starts to “slow down”, applications spontaneously close or the system gives a notification “Not enough memory” – the problem lies in clogged RAM. Unlike flagships, where the margin of performance compensates for unoptimized processes, on the Redmi 7A every megabyte on the account.
In this article, we will discuss 7 working methods for cleaning RAM, from basic (even a beginner can do) to advanced (requires attention to detail). Importantly, Redmi 7A runs on Android 9 Pie with a MIUI 10/11 shell, and some methods may differ from current versions. All instructions are tested on a real device - without the risk of "bricking" or data loss.
Why RAM on Redmi 7A clogs faster than on new smartphones
The reason is not only small memory. Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 paired with 2 GB of RAM is originally designed for easy tasks: calls, instant messengers, watching video in 720p. But modern applications (especially social networks and games) are optimized for devices with 4-8 GB of memory, and their background activity eats up the resources of the Redmi 7A literally in hours.
Key “eaters” of RAM on your phone:
- 📱 Background processes MIUI: Xiaomi’s shell holds up to 15 system services in memory, even if you don’t use them (e.g. Mi Cloud, Mi Video).
- 🎮 Games and “heavy” applications: PUBG Mobile, Free Fire or even Chrome with 10+ tabs can take up to 1.5 GB of RAM in the active state.
- 🔄 Cache and app junk: temporary social media files (such as Instagram stories) accumulate in the background and are not automatically cleared.
- 🤖 Autoboot: Many programs (including banking) are added to autoruns without your knowledge.
Another feature of the Redmi 7A is that it doesn't have RAM Extension (as opposed to the new Xiaomi models), which means you can't use some of the internal memory as virtual RAM. You'll have to work with what's there.
Method 1: Manual cleaning through the “Recent Apps” menu
The fastest and safest method is to force the background apps to close, and on Redmi 7A, it's done through the standard multitasking menu, but there are nuances:
- Press the square button (right of the home) or swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and hold your finger.
- In the app list that opens, swipe left/right to close the program thumbnail to click on the basket icon (or “Close Everything” in MIUI 11) for mass cleaning.
- If there is no basket icon, tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner and select Close Everything.
Important: Don't shut down system processes like com.android.systemui or MIUI Daemon, which can cause your phone to reboot or crash. Focus on the icons of the apps you run yourself.
💡
After manual cleaning, reboot your phone – this will help reset “hang” processes that don’t appear in the multitasking menu.
Method 2: Optimize with “Security” (built-in cleaner) MIUI)
Xiaomi has built its own memory cleaner tool, the Security app, into MIUI, which not only closes the background processes, but also removes the cache, which has a double effect.
- Open the Security app** (the shield icon).
- Go to the Optimization tab** (or Acceleration in some versions of MIUI).
- Click “Clean” and the system will show how much memory can be released.
- For deep cleaning, tap "Deep cleaning"** and confirm the action.
In the same menu you can configure automatic optimization:
- 🔄 Enable the Auto Clean option (under the Optimization Settings section»).
- ⏰ Set a schedule – for example, clean up every day at 3:00 a.m.
- 📴 Add important applications (such as instant messengers) to the exceptions so that they don’t automatically close.
What to do if the “Clean” button is inactive?
Method 3: Disable Auto-Run Unnecessary Applications
Many programs (especially Chinese ones) are added to autoboot and run when your phone is turned on or connected to the Internet. On Redmi 7A, this is critical: each such application eats 50 to 200 MB of RAM in the background.
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Select the “Out-Out-Out” tab** (or “Out-Out-Out-Out-Out-Out”).
- Sort the list by status "On"** and disable unnecessary programs. Be sure to disable autorun for the first time: 🎵 Music players (Mi Music, Spotify). 📺 Video players (Mi Video, MX Player). 🛒 Apps of stores (AliExpress, Wildberries).
On Redmi 7A, you can’t completely disable auto-run MIUI system applications (e.g. com.miui.weather2 or com.android.mms), but you can limit them through Settings → Battery and Performance → Battery Management by selecting Background Restriction mode.
Disable auto-run for social media (VK, Instagram, TikTok)
Ban background activity for games (PUBG, Clash Royale)
Restrict the work of instant messengers (except WhatsApp/Telegram)
Disable auto-run for bank applications (unless you use push notifications)-->
Method 4: Cleaning the application cache manually
Cache is a temporary file that applications save for quick operation, and over time, it accumulates and takes up not only internal memory, but also RAM (if the cache is actively used). On Redmi 7A, the cache can be cleared in two ways:
Method 1: Through Application Settings
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Select an app (like Facebook or Chrome).
- Click Clear Cache** (not to be confused with Clear Data – this will delete accounts and settings!).
Method 2: Mass cleaning through the "Storage"
- Go to Settings. → Warehouse.
- Slip on the “Cached Data” section** and confirm the cleanup.
How to do the reset correctly:
- Save important data to Google Drive or computer (photos, contacts, messages).
- Go to Settings → About the phone → Reset settings.
- Select “Reset all settings”** and confirm the action.
- After the reboot, set the phone up as new without restoring the backup (it may contain “junk” that will clog RAM again).
⚠️ Attention: On Redmi 7A Reset via Recovery Mode (Volume Up buttons) + Power can lead to loss IMEI, If the firmware has been modified, only reset via the settings menu!
💡
Resetting to factory settings is the only way to remove system debris that has been accumulating for years (remnants of deleted applications, broken cache files, temporary update data).
Method 7: Optimizing MIUI to save RAM
The MIUI shell itself is “heavy” for the Redmi 7A, but it can be “lightened” by disabling unnecessary features:
1. Turn off the interface animation
Animations eat up to 100 to 150 MB of RAM when switching between applications.
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone and tap the MIUI version 7 times.
- Back to Settings → Additionally. → For developers.
- Find the "Scale of Animation" section** and set the No Animation values for all three items.
2. Switch to a lightweight topic
MIUI themes with animation and complex visuals load the processor and RAM. Choose a minimalist theme:
- Open the themes (icon with brush).
- Go to the Simples section** and select a theme without animations (like Default or Classic).
3. Limit background MIUI activity
Some system processes can be suspended:
- Go to Settings → Battery and Performance → Battery Management.
- Select "Background Limitation"** for Mi Video, Mi Music, Weather apps.
