Why Clean Cache on Poco X3 and When to Clean It
Cache is a temporary file that creates apps and a system to speed up work. On Xiaomi Poco X3 with its 6/8 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of memory, the cache can take up to 3-5 GB after a year of active use. But not every cleaning is beneficial: removing the WhatsApp or Instagram cache will make them load longer at the next launch, but the system debris - on the contrary, slows down the smartphone.
The main signs that it is time to clean the cache:
- ๐ฑ Apps open longer despite free memory.
- ๐ Smartphone spontaneously reboots when multitasking.
- ๐ In the storage settings, you can see that "Other files" take up >10GB.
- ๐ Fast battery discharge for no apparent reason (background cache can consume up to 15% charge).
It is important to understand that cleaning the cache does not increase physical memory, but only frees up space for new temporary files. If there is no additional space after the procedure, the problem is in another one (for example, in junk APKs or duplicate photos).
Method 1: Clearing the cache of individual applications
The safest method is to remove the cache only for programs that are clearly slowing down. On the Poco X3, this is done through a standard menu:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select the app you want (such as Facebook or Google Play Store).
- Press "Storage" โ "Clear the cache".
โ ๏ธ Please note: Do not clear the cache for the Google Services Framework or MIUI System โ this can lead to malfunctions in the work of Google services and Xiaomiโs proprietary shell.
Delete the Telegram cache (releases up to 1 GB)
Clear Chrome data (including history)
Reset YouTube cache (delete video buffer)
Check the Gallery for thumbnails (up to 500 MB)-->
If the Clear Cache button is inactive, the app did not create temporary files, in which case try an alternative method through Settings โ Storage โ Application Data.
Method 2: Automatic cleaning with MIUI Optimizer
Xiaomi Poco X3 runs on MIUI, which has a built-in optimization utility that removes system cache, residual files and debris from uninstalled programs:
- Go to Settings โ About the phone โ Memory.
- Click "Clean" in the "Junk" section.
- Confirm the action and wait until the completion (it will take 1-3 minutes).
The utility also shows how much space it takes up:
| Type of file | Approximate volume | Can I remove it? |
|---|---|---|
| Cash app. | 1-3 GB | Yes. |
| Residual APK files | 200-800 MB | Yes. |
| Logs of the system | 50โ300 MB | Yes (but no more than 1 time per month) |
| Downloads. | 500 MB-5 GB | Yes (manually) |
| Application data | Variatively. | No (setting reset) |
๐ก
After automatic cleaning, restart the Poco X3 โ this will allow the system to recalculate the free space and avoid โphantomโ occupied gigabytes.
Method 3: Manually remove cache via Recovery Mode
If the smartphone is slowing down a lot and standard methods donโt help, cleaning the cache through Recovery can return performance, which does not delete user data, but resets system settings (for example, regional settings).
- Turn off the Poco X3.
- Press the Power button + Volume up until the MI logo appears.
- In the Recovery menu, select "Wipe & Reset โ Wipe Cache" (control - volume buttons, confirmation - power button).
- Once completed, restart the device ("Reboot โ System").
โ ๏ธ Note: If you accidentally select "Wipe Data" in Recovery instead of "Wipe Cache", the smartphone will perform a full reset to factory settings. Before the procedure, make sure that the device's binding is disabled on the Mi Account (otherwise you will need to enter a password after the reboot).
What happens if Recovery does not open?
Method 4: Cleaning up Google Play Services and MIUI services
The background cache of Google Play Services and MIUI system processes can take up to 1.5 GB, but it must be removed carefully.
- ๐ซ Sync errors (e.g., no notifications from Gmail).
- ๐ Cycling updates in the Play Store.
- ๐ฑ Losing access to Mi Cloud or Find Device features.
Safe algorithm:
- Open the Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management โ Three points (โฎ) โ Show all the processes.
- Search Google Play Services and click Clear Cache (not data!).
- Repeat for MIUI System, Security and Download Manager.
- Reboot your smartphone.
๐ก
If after cleaning Google Play Services, a notification of a sync error appears โ go to Settings โ Accounts โ Google and manually update the data.
Method 5: Use of third-party utilities (for power users)
Apps like SD Maid or CCleaner can find cache that isn't visible in standard settings, but on Poco X3, they require root rights for deep cleaning.
- ๐๏ธ Residual files of uninstalled programs.
- ๐ Empty folders in /storage/emulated/0.
- ๐ Cash miniatures at the Gallery.
Instructions for SD Maid:
- Download the app from the Play Store and provide access to the storage.
- Run the scan in the "CorpseFinder" section.
- Manually mark files to delete (do not touch Android, MIUI or DCIM folders).
- Press "Run" and confirm the action.
โ ๏ธ Attention: The utilities often label.nomedia files (hiding media from the gallery) or.thumbnails (miniatures) as garbage, and removing them will not harm the system, but can lead to re-indexing of the photo and temporary slowdown of work.
What to do if after cleaning the cache problems remain
If there is no space added or the smartphone still brakes, check:
- Hidden Files: In the file manager, enable the display of hidden folders (Settings โ Show hidden files) and delete the contents of the folders: /storage/emulated/0/.thumbnails (miniatures). /storage/emulated/0/.estrongs (ES Explorer cache). /data/local/tmp (temporary files, root rights).

Poco X3 with MIUI 12+ has a hidden system compression function: type in the dial ##4636##, select "Usage statistics โ Storage" and click "Optimize" which will reduce the size of system files by 10-15%.
