The transition to a new smartphone is always an exciting moment, especially when it comes to saving important data. Xiaomi 10, despite its age (the model was released in 2020), remains a popular device thanks to powerful hardware and current updates. MIUI. But even experienced users sometimes face a simple but insidious task: how to transfer contacts to the Internet. SIM-card to the phone without losing any number?
In this article, we will discuss 5 working methods – from standard functions MIUI You will learn why some contacts may not be copied, how to avoid duplicates, and what to do if you don't have a copy. SIM-And there's hidden settings that don't appear in the official instructions.
Let’s warn you right away: if you use a two-sim (models Xiaomi 10 Pro or Xiaomi 10 Ultra), the process of transferring contacts may be different. It is also important to consider the version of MIUI – in older builds (below MIUI 12.5) some of the functions work differently. We have taken into account all the nuances, so the instructions will be suitable for any modification of Xiaomi 10.
1. Standard transfer through the settings of Xiaomi 10
The most obvious way is to use the built-in contact import feature, which is good if you have a standard contact import feature. SIM-The card (not the eSIM) and the phone recognizes it without error:
Open the Contacts app (an icon with a human silhouette). In the upper right corner, click on the three dots (menu) and select Contact Management» → «Import/export of contacts» → «Import with SIM-The system will automatically scan the map and show a list of available numbers.
Here it is important to pay attention to two points:
- If there are many contacts on the SIM (over 200), the process can take up to 5 minutes - do not interrupt it.
- By default, numbers are imported into your Xiaomi account. To save them to your Google account, go to Settings → Accounts → Google before importing and sync your contacts.
⚠️ Note: If after importing some contacts appear as “Unknown Number”, the problem is encoding. SIM-Decision - see section 4 of this article.
Check that SIM-The card is inserted into slot 1 (main card)
Make sure there is enough free space on the map (minimum 10 KB)
Turn off the "charge saving" mode in the settings
Close all background apps (especially messengers)
-->
2. Export contacts to the VCF file (for backup)
The.vcf (vCard) format is a universal way to transfer contacts between any device, and on Xiaomi 10 you can create it directly from the contacts menu:
Go to Contacts» → «Contact management» → «Imports/exports» → «Export to the device. Select «SIM-map" as the source and wait for the file to be created. It will be saved in the "Internal Storage" folder. → MIUI → backup → Contacts».
Now you have a backup copy that you can:
- 📤 Send to another phone via Bluetooth or messenger;
- 🖥️ Download to the cloud (Google Drive, Mi Cloud);
- 📱 Import back to Xiaomi 10 via the same section Import/Export».
Important: the VCF file is not encrypted – if you send it through unsecured channels (for example, SMS), phone numbers can be intercepted. For security, use secure messengers (Telegram, Signal) or archive the file with a password.
💡
If there is an error “Insufficient memory” when exporting, clear the cache of the Contacts app in your phone settings. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management → Contacts → Memory → Clear the cache
3. Transfer through a Google account (the most reliable way)
Syncing with Google is the best option if you plan to use multiple Android devices. On Xiaomi 10, the process takes just 3 steps:
Step 1. Open Settings → Accounts → Add Account → Google and log in to your profile (or create a new one).
Step 2. Return to Settings → Accounts, select your Google account and enable the Contacts slider.
Step 3: Now import contacts with SIM-Maps in Google: “Contacts» → «Management» → «Import with SIM», In the account selection window, please select Google (not Xiaomi).
Advantages of this method:
- ☁️ Contacts are automatically backed up in the cloud;
- 🔄 Synchronize between all your devices;
- 🛡️ Protected by Google’s two-factor authentication.
⚠️ Note: If you have previously used an iPhone, before transferring contacts to Google, delete duplicates through the service contacts.google.com. Otherwise, Xiaomi 10 may appear “dead” numbers with empty names.
4. Solving encoding and corrupted SIM problems
Sometimes when you import, instead of Cyrillic names, you'll see "???" or "Crycots." SIM-The card uses outdated encoding (for example, GSM 7-bit instead UCS-2). On Xiaomi 10, this problem can be solved in two ways:
Method 1: Manual editing.
Import the contacts as is, then open each "broken" contact and manually correct the name. It's long, but reliable.
Method 2: Convert via PC.
- Export your SIM contacts to the.vcf file (see Section 2).
- Connect Xiaomi 10 to your computer and copy the file.
- Open.vcf in your notebook and replace all the “????” with the correct names (use CHARSET=UTF-8 search).
- Save the file and import it back to the phone.
If SIM-The card is physically damaged (not readable, gives an error «SIM-The card is not supported, try it:
- 🔄 Reboot the phone with the retrieved SIM;
- 🧹 Clear the contacts SIM using a different phone (such as an old Nokia);
- 📞 Contact the operator for a replacement card (contacts can be restored by phone number).

5. Alternative methods: applications and PC Suite
If the standard methods don't work, third-party tools will come to the rescue, and we tested 3 reliable options:
| Method | Advantages | Deficiencies | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi PC Suite | Xiaomi official software, supports backup | Requires PC connection, slow synchronization | Download |
| Super Backup | Save contacts, SMS, call logs to the cloud | Advertising in the free version | Google Play |
| Copy My Data | Transfer over Wi-Fi between devices | Does not work with damaged SIMs | Google Play |
For the Mi PC Suite:
- Install the program on your computer and connect Xiaomi 10 via USB (in file transfer mode).
- In the program menu, select “Backup” → “Contacts” → “Export”.
- Once completed, turn off your phone and import contacts via Recovery.
⚠️ Note: Apps like Super Backup request access SMS If you use your phone for work, check the service's privacy policy before installing it.
💡
Third-party apps are handy, but always check reviews and rankings on Google Play. avoid programs with fewer than 100,000 installs - they may contain malicious code.
6. How to avoid duplicates and optimize contacts
Once you move your contacts to Xiaomi 10, there's often chaos: duplicate numbers, old records, empty fields, to get things in order:
Step 1. Combining duplicates.
Open Contacts → Management → Combine Duplicates. MIUI will automatically find the duplicate numbers and suggest that they be merged.
Step 2. Clean up the trash.
Use the filters:
- 📱 «Contacts without names – delete the numbers without tags;
- 📞 «Unused – Check contacts that have not been contacted for more than a year;
- 🏷️ «Tags – divide contacts into groups (e.g., Work, Family, and Family»).
Step 3. Backup.
Create a.vcf file (see Section 2) and save it in two places:
- In the cloud (Google Drive, Mi Cloud)
- On a physical carrier (flash drive, SD-map).
💡 Useful advice: Set up in MIUI Automatic contact synchronization. Go to Settings for this» → «Accounts» → «Xiaomi» → «Sync and turn on the Contacts option. Now, even if you reset your phone, you can restore all the numbers in 2 minutes.
