The transition from Xiaomi to Huawei is often accompanied by the problem of synchronizing contacts โ especially if you do not use Google services or are faced with the limitations of Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). Unlike devices on pure Android, where contacts are automatically linked to a Google account, the Huawei ecosystem requires alternative solutions. This article covers 5 working methods for transferring contacts without being tied to Google, including manual and automated methods, as well as solutions for cases when standard tools do not work.
The peculiarity of the problem is that Xiaomi default saves contacts either in the Mi Account account or in the memory of the device, and Huawei โ in Huawei. ID And yet, direct synchronization between these ecosystems is often impossible, and we're going to look at more than just universal methods (via.vcf files or.vcf files). SIM-maps, but also less obvious ones, such as using Bluetooth to circumvent restrictions or third-party apps that do not require access to Google services. MIUI 12-14 and Huawei EMUI 10-13 (including models without Google services).
1.Preparation: Where Xiaomi contacts are stored and how to export them
Before you move contacts, you need to understand where they are physically located on your Xiaomi, which is the choice of export method.
- ๐ฑ Locally on the device โ contacts are stored in the phoneโs memory (see in the account settings as โDeviceโ or โPhone").
- ๐ Mi Account โ synced with Xiaomi servers (shown as โXiaomi").
- ๐ง In a third-party account, such as Outlook or Yandex (rare but common).
To check the storage location, open the Contacts app, click on three dots (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Contact Management โ Import/Export. You'll see all the sources available here. If the contacts are stored in Mi Account, they can be exported directly to.vcf (vCard) โ this is a universal format that Huawei supports. If locally, an additional step in backup will be required.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have previously used Google services but deleted your account from your phone, your contacts may have remained "ghost" in the cache. โ Accounts. โ Google โ Even if your account is disabled, your data can be saved.
For export, do:
- Open Contacts. โ โฎ โ Contact management โ Exports/imports.
- Select the source (e.g., "Xiaomi" or "Device").
- Click Export to file and save.vcf to internal memory or to SD-map.
- Transfer the file to Huawei in any convenient way (for example, via a USB OTG cable or cloud).
2. Method 1: Transfer through vCard (.vcf) file - a universal method
The.vcf (vCard) format is a standard for storing contact information supported by all modern smartphones, including Huawei without Google services. The advantage of the method is that it does not require Internet and works even on devices with limited functions (for example, after resetting settings).
Instructions for Huawei:
- Copy the contacts.vcf file (or with another name) to Huawei, for example, through Explorer or Huawei Share (if you use the Huawei ecosystem).
- Open the Contacts app on Huawei.
- Press three points (โฎ) โ Contact management โ Imports/Exports โ File-based import.
- Select the copied.vcf file and confirm the import.
If Huawei does not display an import option, check:
- ๐ File location โ it should be in the root folder or in Download.
- ๐ File format - some versions EMUI They do not support.vcf with encoding UTF-16 (need UTF-8).
- ๐ง Permissions โ Give the Contacts app access to storage in Settings โ Annexes โ Contacts โ Permits.
โ๏ธ Checking before importing.vcf on Huawei
Critical detail: if your contacts on Xiaomi were saved in your Mi Account, the exported file may not contain all the fields (e.g. photos or additional numbers) in which case, use the sync method via Mi Account (section 4).
Method 2: Transfer through SIM-Card - for a small number of contacts
This method is suitable if you have less than 250 contacts (limitation). SIM-maps) and no use of the.vcf file โ SIM-The card only stores the basic data (name) + number), without email, addresses or photos.
Instructions for Xiaomi:
- Put it in. SIM-map.
- Open Contacts. โ โฎ โ Contact management โ Imports/Exports โ Exports to SIM.
- Select contacts for export (or click "Select all").
- Confirm the export โ the process can take a few minutes.
Instructions for Huawei:
- Move it. SIM-Huawei card.
- Open Contacts. โ โฎ โ Contact management โ Imports/Exports โ Import with SIM.
- Choose where to save contacts (for example, in Huawei ID or on your device).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some Huawei models (e.g. Mate 50 Pro) P60) importation option SIM To see it, first create at least one contact manually, and that activates the control menu.
If the contacts are not displayed after import:
- ๐ Reboot Huawei โ sometimes data is delayed.
- ๐ถ Check that SIM-The card supports the storage of contacts (some virtual operators disable this function).
- ๐ ๏ธ Use a Nano-SIM Adapter if your phone doesnโt recognize the card.
4. Method 3: Synchronization with Mi Account and Huawei ID
If your contacts are linked to your Mi Account, they can be transferred to Huawei via intermediate export to.vcf or synchronization with Huawei ID. The latter option requires a Huawei account, but avoids manual import.
Steps for synchronization:
- On Xiaomi, export contacts from Mi Account to.vcf (as in Method 1).
- Upload the file to the Huawei Cloud: Open Huawei Cloud in your browser. Sign in with your Huawei ID. Go to Contacts โ Import and download.vcf.
Huawei
Settings โ Huawei ID โ Cloud โ Contact Synchronization (enable)Alternatively, if Huawei Cloud is not available:
- ๐ง Send the.vcf file to your Huawei-related email ID.
- ๐ฅ Open the letter to Huawei and download the attachment.
- ๐ Import contacts through the Contacts app (as in Method 1).
| Method | Speed. | Data retention | Internet is required | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .vcf file | โญโญโญโญ | All fields (including photos) | No. | Manual importation |
| SIM-map | โญโญ | Only name + number | No. | 250 contact limit |
| Huawei Cloud | โญโญโญ | All fields. | Yes. | I need a Huawei ID. |
| Bluetooth | โญ | Depends on the model. | No. | Slowly, mistakes are possible. |
5. Method 4: Bluetooth Transfer โ if other methods do not work
Bluetooth isn't the most reliable way to do this, but it can help if you don't have a cable, Internet or.vcf. The main drawback is that Huawei and Xiaomi can conflict when transferring contacts because of different data exchange protocols, but with the right settings, it works.
Step-by-step:
- On both phones, turn on Bluetooth and make them visible: Settings โ Connections โ Bluetooth (enable + Visible for All)
- On Xiaomi, open Contacts, select the contacts you want (or click โSelect Allโ).
- Click Share (arrow icon) โ Bluetooth.
- Select Huawei from the list of devices and confirm the transfer.
- On Huawei, accept the file and save contacts in Contacts.
If no contact is transmitted:
- ๐ Reboot Bluetooth on both phones.
- ๐ฑ Make sure Huawei has enabled Bluetooth file reception in Settings โ Connections โ Bluetooth โ Additionally. โ Accept files.
- ๐ง Try sending contacts one at a time - sometimes packet transmission will fail.
Why can Bluetooth not work?
Important: When transferring over Bluetooth, contacts may be duplicated or lose formatting (for example, pluses in numbers are replaced by spaces). After import, check the data and edit manually if necessary.
Method 5: Using third-party apps without Google
If standard methods don't work, you can use third-party applications that don't require a Google account, and the main condition is that the application must support Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) or run without cloud services, and we tested three reliable options:
- ๐ฑ Copy My Data (from Media Mushroom) - transfers Wi-Fi contacts directly between phones, works without Google, but requires installation on both devices.
- ๐ My Contacts Backup - Exports contacts to.vcf and sends them to email. Supports Huawei without restrictions.
- ๐ง Droid Transfer (from Wide Angle Software) USB It's not Wi-Fi, but it needs to be installed on a PC, it's suitable for mass transfer.
Instructions for Copy My Data:
- Install the app on both phones from AppGallery (for Huawei) or APKMirror (for Xiaomi).
- On Xiaomi, select Send Data โ Contacts.
- On Huawei, select Receive Data โ Contacts.
- Connect your phones to a single Wi-Fi network or use hotspot.
- Follow the instructions on the screen for transmission.
โ ๏ธ Note: Apps from third-party sources (not AppGallery or Play Market) may request additional permissions. Check developer reviews and reputation before installing. Copy My Data, for example, has more than 10 million installs and positive ratings, which reduces risk.
๐ก
If you use My Contacts Backup, send a.vcf file to an email linked to Huawei ID, so you can open an email to Huawei and import contacts directly from the attachment, bypassing the cloud.
7. Solving typical transfer problems
Even if you follow instructions, you can get errors, and here are the most common problems and solutions.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts are not imported from.vcf | Incorrect file encoding | Convert the file to UTF-8 via an online converter |
| Huawei does not see the.vcf file | The file is saved in an unsupported folder | Transfer the file to Download or the root directory |
| Duplicate contacts after importation | Contacts already exist in Huawei ID | Before importing, clear contacts in Settings โ Contacts โ Delete everything |
| Bluetooth does not transmit all contacts | Limitation of the OBEX protocol | Transmit contacts in packets of 50 pieces |
| The app is not installed on Huawei | No support for HMS | Use APKs from trusted sources (e.g. APKPure) |
If the contacts are displayed incorrectly after the transfer (for example, Cyrillic is replaced with question marks), the problem is encoding.
- Open the.vcf file in a text editor (e.g. Notepad++).
- Make sure that the file has a CHARSET=UTF-8 string at the beginning of the file.
- If it is not, add it manually and save the file.

If none of the methods worked, try resetting the Contacts app on Huawei: go to Settings โ Apps โ Contacts โ Storage โ Clear the data. This will delete all contacts, but reset possible sync errors.
