The transition from Huawei to Xiaomi Redmi 10 is not only about changing the ecosystem, but also the need to migrate personal data from contacts and messages to photos, videos and even app settings. Many users face problems when trying to sync due to the differences in firmware EMUI (Huawei) and MIUI (Xiaomi). In this article, we will discuss 5 working ways to transfer data, including official tools and workarounds for complex cases.
The Redmi 10 (the 2021-2023 model) features Xiaomiβs Quick Share support and limited compatibility with Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). If you use Huawei ID for backup, youβll have to look for alternatives. We tested all methods on current firmware versions (at 2026) and highlighted the pros and cons of each.
1.The official way: Mi Mover by Xiaomi
Mi Mover is an integrated application in Xiaomi Redmi 10, designed to transfer data from other Android devices. It supports the transfer of contacts, messages, photos, videos and even some applications (without some applications). APK-However, there are nuances when working with Huawei:
- π± Required: Both phones with charge β₯50%, Wi-Fi or mobile internet, cable OTG (For older versions of Huawei).
- β‘ Speed: ~10-15 minutes for 10 GB of data (depending on the Huawei model).
- β Restrictions: Cannot tolerate notes from Huawei Notes, data from some Chinese apps.
How to use:
- On Redmi 10, open Settings β About Phone β Mi Mover (or search through search).
- Choose Me sender on Huawei and I receive on Xiaomi.
β οΈ Note: If Huawei is installed EMUI 12+, Mi Mover may not see the device, in which case use the "No Limits" mode in the developer settings (Settings) β The phone. β Assembly number (7 taps) β Allow debugging by USB).
Charge both phones β₯50%|Connect to a single Wi-Fi network|Shut down. VPN/oppressor|Enable "Data Transfer" in Huawei settings|Install the latest version of Mi Mover (if not built-in)-->
2. Transfer through Google Account (for contacts, calendar, mail)
The most universal method is synchronization with a Google Account, which is suitable for transferring:
- π Contacts (including groups and labels).
- π Calendar and reminders.
- βοΈ Emails from Gmail and other mailboxes connected to Google.
- π Google Drive files (if previously downloaded data).
Instructions:
- On Huawei, go to Settings β Accounts β Google and enable sync for the data you need.
- Wait for the sync to complete (check in Settings β Accounts β Google β Account Management).
- On Redmi 10, add the same Google Account (Settings β Accounts β Add an account).
- Turn on synchronization and wait for the data to load.
| Type of data | Transferred? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | β Yes. | Including contact photos |
| SMS messages | β No. | Third-party software is required (see section 4) |
| Photo/video | β οΈ Partially. | Only if you upload photos to Google |
| Annexes | β No. | Only lists from Google Play are transferred |
Critical nuance: If Huawei previously used a Huawei ID for backup, contacts may be duplicated. Before syncing with Google, check them in Contacts β Manage β Combine duplicates.
3. Transfer files (photos, videos, music) via OTG or PC cable
For large files (video in the 4K, RAW-Photos, archives, better use physical connection:
Method A: Direct connection via OTG-cable
You will need a USB-C β USB-C cable (or an adapter if you are on a Huawei Micro-USB).
- Connect Huawei to Redmi 10 cable.
- On Huawei, select File Transfer (MTP) mode.
- On Redmi 10, open Explorer and copy the files to the desired folder.
Method B: Through a computer (Windows/macOS/Linux)
A more reliable method if the OTG does not work:
- Connect Huawei to your PC and copy the files to your hard drive.
- Disable Huawei, connect Redmi 10 and transfer files back.
β οΈ Note: When copying photos/video via PC, check the dates of the creation of files. Some conductors (for example, in macOS) can reset metadata. To avoid this, use FastCopy (Windows) or rsync (Linux/macOS).
π‘
If Redmi 10 doesnβt see Huawei through OTG, try enabling developer mode on both devices and activating the USB debugging option.
4. Transportation of messages, calls and applications
Standard tools (Mi Mover, Google) do not carry SMS/MMS and call logs.
- π² SMS Backup & Restore (free, saves in the XML).
- π Super Backup & Restore (paid, portable and apps).
- π Call Logs Backup & Restore (Call Logs Only).
Instructions for SMS Backup & Restore:
- Install the app on both phones.
- On Huawei, back up (Backup β select SMS/MMS).
- Move the backup file (.xml extension) to Redmi 10 (via cloud or cable).
- On Redmi 10, restore the data (Restore).
To transfer applications (without data loss):
- Use Titanium Backup (requires root rights).
- APK Extractor (saves only APK, no data).

5. Cloud services: an alternative for big data
If you have slow internet or a lot of files (e.g., >50GB), use cloud storage:
| Service | Free seat | Loading speed | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Drive | 15GB | Medium | Documents, photos (compressed) |
| Yandex Disc. | 10GB | High (for Russia) | Photo/video in original quality |
| Huawei Cloud | 5GB | Low (outside China) | Only for temporary storage |
| Mega | 20GB | High (with encryption) | Confidential files |
How to move data through the cloud:
- Upload files from Huawei to your chosen service (via app or browser).
- On Redmi 10, download the files back.
- To automatically sync photos, use Google Photos (settings β Backup and Synchronization).
β οΈ Note: When you upload a video to Google Photos in High Quality (not Original) mode, the files will be compressed to resolution 1080p, even if 4K. To avoid quality loss, use Yandex Disk or Mega.
Problems and Solutions: What to Do When Data Is Not Portable
Even when you follow the instructions, you can make mistakes.
- π« Mi Mover doesn't see Huawei: Check if Data Mode is turned on in the notification curtain on Huawei. Turn off Power Saving for Mi Mover in the battery settings. Reboot both phones.
- β οΈ Contacts are not portable: Make sure they are saved to your Google Account, not in your phoneβs memory or in your phoneβs memory. SIM-Check the synchronization settings: Settings β Accounts. β Google β Synchronization of contacts.
- π± Apps are not restored: List of installed apps will be transferred to Google Play (Settings) β Google β Application data (e.g. saved in games) is only transferred through backups (Titanium Backup or embedded application tools).
If none of the methods worked, try resetting to factory settings on Redmi 10, followed by data recovery via Mi Cloud (if you have previously made a backup).
