The transition from Honor to Xiaomi Redmi is not only a brand change, but also the need to transfer all the important data: contacts, photos, messages and applications. Many users have difficulty syncing devices from different manufacturers, especially if they have used the Huawei ecosystem (which includes Honor) before. MIUI to workarounds for complex cases.
The main problem with the transition between Honor and Xiaomi Redmi is different synchronization protocols. Huawei is actively promoting its Huawei Mobile Cloud and services like Huawei Share, while Xiaomi is focused on Mi Account and Quick Share (formerly Mi Share). Fortunately, there are universal tools that will help to circumvent these restrictions. We tested all methods on current models from 2023 to 2026, including the Honor 90, Honor Magic5 and the Redmi Note 12/13 line.
You don't need root rights or complicated manipulations, just follow the instructions, and if you're afraid of losing data, we'll tell you how to back up before you move.
Preparation for data transfer: what to do before the start
Before you start transferring information, follow a few mandatory steps that will help avoid data loss and speed up the process.
First, check the space available on Xiaomi Redmi. If the new phone has little memory, transferring a large amount of files can result in an error. Optimally, the device is free at least 10-15 GB (depending on the amount of data transferred). โ Memory.
Second, update the firmware on both smartphones: Outdated versions of MIUI or Magic UI (on Honor) may not support modern transmission protocols, but it takes 10-20 minutes to update, but will eliminate compatibility issues.
- ๐ฑ On Honor: Settings โ System and updates โ Update of the PO
โ ๏ธ Note: If Privacy Protection is enabled on Honor (in Settings) โ Privacy, it can block the transfer of some files.
We also recommend clearing the cache on both devices, which will speed up the system applications responsible for data transfer, through Settings โ Memory โ Cleanup (on Xiaomi) or Settings โ Memory โ Cleanup (on Honor).
2. Method 1: Transfer via Mi Mover (official Xiaomi app)
Mi Mover is a MIUI-built application for migrating data from other smartphones, which supports porting from Honor devices, but with some limitations, and the main advantage is that you don't need to connect to the Internet or use third-party services.
To use Mi Mover, follow the following steps:
- On Xiaomi Redmi, open the Mi Mover app (if not available, download from Google Play).Click I get the data.
- On Honor, install Mi Mover from AppGallery or APKMirror (the official Xiaomi website can block downloads to Huawei/Honor devices). Launch the app and select I submit data.
- Connect both phones to the same Wi-Fi network or use a direct Wi-Fi Direct connection (Mi Mover will suggest creating an access point).
- On Honor, select files to transfer: contacts, messages, photos, videos or apps. Click Send.
- Wait until the process is complete. The time depends on the amount of data, from 5 minutes to 1 hour.
Mi Mover can't stand it:
- ๐ Folders with custom application settings (for example, save in games).
- ๐ Passwords from Wi-Fi networks (they will have to be entered manually).
- ๐ต Music and documents (only if stored in standard Music and Documents folders).
โ ๏ธ Warning: If the Mi Mover freezes during the connection phase, try to disable VPN Or a firewall on both devices, and check if Honor is blocking data transmission through Settings. โ Security โ Access to data.
Install Mi Mover on both phones | Connect to one Wi-Fi network | Charge devices at least 50% | Disable VPN and firewall | Select only the necessary files for transfer-->
Method 3: Transfer via OTG cable or adapter
If you have an OTG-enabled USB cable (or USB-C to USB-C adapter), you can transfer files directly from a flash drive, which is suitable for photos, videos, music and documents, but not for contacts or messages.
You'll need:
- ๐ Cable USB-C โ USB-C (If both phones have a Type-C connector or an adapter USB-A โ USB-C.
- ๐ File Manager (e.g. Files by Google or standard Explorer on Xiaomi).
Instructions:
- Connect Honor to Xiaomi Redmi cable. On Honor, select File Transfer (or MTP) mode.
- On Xiaomi, open the file manager. In the Devices section, a folder will appear with the name of the Honor model.
- Copy the files you want (for example, from DCIM photo folders or Downloads for downloads) and paste them into Redmi memory.
| Type of file | The Way to Honor | Where to copy on Xiaomi |
|---|---|---|
| Photographs and videos | /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera | /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera |
| Screenshots | /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots | /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots |
| Downloads. | /storage/emulated/0/Download | /storage/emulated/0/Download |
| Music. | /storage/emulated/0/Music | /storage/emulated/0/Music |
Important: If Xiaomi doesnโt see Honor as a drive when connecting, try rebooting both devices or using a different cable. Some Honor models (such as the Honor 80) require additional confirmation of access to the notification menu.
๐ก
If the cable doesnโt fit the connector, use cloud storage (like Google Drive) as an intermediate option: download files from Honor, then download them to Xiaomi.
Method 3: Sync through Google Account (for contacts, calendar, email)
If you have a Google Account linked to Honor, it takes only a few minutes to transfer contacts, calendar events, and emails from Gmail, which is not suitable for photos or apps, but it ensures that the most important information is safe.
How to transfer data:
- On Honor, open Settings โ Accounts โ Google and make sure that sync is enabled for Contacts, Calendar, and Gmail.
- On Xiaomi Redmi, add the same Google Account through Settings โ Accounts and Sync โ Add an account.
- Turn on sync for the same services. Data will automatically download within 5-10 minutes.
If no contact is made:
- ๐ Check if sync is disabled in Google Contacts (web version).
- ๐ต Make sure that the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data) is turned on on on Xiaomi).
- ๐ Manually update contacts: Open the Contacts app on Redmi and pull the screen down for an update.
โ ๏ธ Note: If the contacts are stored on Honor not in Google, but in the memory of the phone or SIM-You need to export them first. โ Settings โ Imports/Exports โ Export to your device (the file will be in.vcf format) and then import it to Xiaomi.
What to do if the contacts are duplicated?
5. Method 4: Move over Huawei Mobile Cloud and Mi Cloud (cloud bridge)
If you've used Huawei's Honor cloud, you can download data from there first and then upload it to Mi Cloud, a method that works for backups, notes, and some settings.
Step-by-step:
- On Honor, open Settings โ Huawei ID โ Cloud and make sure you have a backup. If not, make it manually.
- Download data from Huawei Cloud to your computer: Go to cloud.huawei.com. Log in and select files to download (contacts, photos, videos).
- Upload your downloaded files to Mi Cloud: Go to i.mi.com. Sign in to your Mi Account (if not, register).
On Xiaomi Redmi, enable sync with Mi Cloud via Settings โ Mi Account โ Mi Cloud.
Limitations of the method:
- ๐ซ Huawei Cloud does not export messages SMS call history.
- ๐ The maximum size of one file to download in Mi Cloud is 50 MB (for photos, this is enough, but the video will have to be divided).
- โณ Free storage in Mi Cloud โ only 5 GB (in Huawei Cloud โ 50 GB for new users).
๐ก
Cloud migration via Huawei Cloud and Mi Cloud is suitable for backups, but not for full migration; for large amounts of data, it is better to combine this method with others (for example, cable connection).
6.Method 5: Using third-party applications (SHAREit, Xender, Send Anywhere)
If standard methods don't work, you can use universal file transfer applications that don't depend on the phone's brand and often support Wi-Fi Direct transmission, which speeds up the process.
Comparison of popular applications:
| Annex | Speed. | Max. File size. | Contact support/SMS | Advertising |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SHAREit | High (up to 20 MB/s) | Unlimited. | No. | There is. |
| Xender | Medium (up to 10 MB/s) | Unlimited. | No. | There is. |
| Send Anywhere | High (up to 15 MB/s) | 10GB at a time. | No. | Minimum |
| LocalSend | Medium (up to 8 MB/s) | Unlimited. | No. | No. |
LocalSend is open source, free of advertising and restrictions.
- Install LocalSend on both phones from Google Play or the official website.
- On Honor, select files and click Send. The app will generate QR-code.
- On Xiaomi Redmi scan QR-code through LocalSend and confirm receipt.
โ ๏ธ Note: Apps like SHAREit and Xender often collect user data. If privacy is important, use LocalSend or Send Anywhere (the latter has encryption option).
7. Transfer of applications and their data
Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer installed apps from Honor to Xiaomi Redmi directly, they will have to be installed again, but you can save application data (for example, progress in games or messaging settings) with backups.
Methods of data retention:
- ๐ฎ Most games (such as Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile) linked to a Google Play account, Facebook or your own gaming profile. Once you install the game on Xiaomi, just log in to the same account and progress will recover.
- ๐ฌ Messengers: WhatsApp: Back up chats on Honor (Settings) โ chat โ Backup) and restore it to Xiaomi when you first start. Telegram: All data is stored in the cloud โ just log in to the same account.
- ๐ฑ System settings: Some applications (e.g. Nova Launcher) allow you to export configurations to a file.
You can use Titanium Backup (requires root rights) or Swift Backup (works on some firmware without root), but these methods are difficult for beginners and can cause failures if you do not follow the instructions.
๐ก
Before you uninstall apps with Honor, check if it supports cross-platform sync, for example, Spotify and Netflix save your browsing/listening history in your account, while Viber does not (you will have to manually export chats).
8. Frequent errors and their solutions
When you migrate data from Honor to Xiaomi Redmi, users often face typical problems, and we've collected the most common and ways to fix them.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Mover doesn't see Honor | No Wi-Fi Direct support or firewall lock | Disable VPN, check network settings, reboot both phones |
| Photos moved but not displayed in the gallery | Files copied to the wrong folder or no read rights | Move files to /DCIM/Camera and restart the Gallery app |
| Contacts are duplicated after synchronization with Google | Contacts are saved in your phone memory and in your Google Account | Combine duplicates in Google Contacts (web version) |
| Xiaomi doesnโt recognize Honor as a USB-accumulator | MTP protocol incompatibility or damaged cable | Try another cable or turn on Developer Mode and select MTP manually |
| Applications do not recover data after reinstallation | Backup not created or account not tied | Check if backup is enabled in the app settings |
If none of these methods worked, try resetting to the factory settings on Xiaomi Redmi and repeat the data port. Sometimes conflicts arise because of previously installed applications or settings.
