1. Method: Xiaomi Files Widget (the easiest)
The fastest method is to use the Files widget, which automatically displays the latest downloaded documents, which does not require root rights and works on all models, including the Redmi A2 and POCO C55.
Instructions:
- 📱 Long pressing on the free space of the desktop → Widgets.
- 🔍 In the list, find the Files widget (the document folder icon).
- 📄 Select the size of the widget (recommended) 4×2 convenienceally).
- ✅ The widget will appear on the screen and will show the latest files from the Download folders, DCIM and Documents.
Method limitation: The widget only displays the last 4-6 files (depending on the version of MIUI). If you want to pin a specific document, read the next section.

To make the widget update faster, open the Files app and manually update the list in the Recents section.
2. Method: Creating a File Shortcut through the “Files”
If the widget doesn't work, you can manually shortcut the file on your desktop, and this method works for all formats:.pdf,.docx,.jpg,.mp4, and even.apk.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Files app (the standard Xiaomi file manager).
- Find the file you want in the Downloads, Images, or Documents folders.
- Long click on the file → More (three dots) → Create a shortcut.
- Select the Desktop as the place of preservation.

3. Method: Third-party file managers (ES Explorer, Solid Explorer)
If Xiaomi’s standard tools don’t allow you to create a shortcut, a third-party file manager will help.We recommend ES Explorer or Solid Explorer – they support this feature even on older versions of Android.
How to do this:
- 📥 Install. ES The Explorer from Google Play.
- 🔍 Open the application and find the desired file.
- 📎 Long press. → More. → Add to the desktop.
- ✅ The shortcut will appear on the home screen. When you click, the file will open in a standard application.

Why doesn't label creation work?
Method: Drag and Drag through the Mi-Cloud (for synchronization)
If you want to not only place a file on your desktop, but also sync between devices, use Mi Cloud, which is suitable for documents that are updated frequently (for example,.xlsx tables or.txt texts).
Algorithm of action:
- Upload the file to Mi Cloud via the web version (i.mi.com) or the Cloud app on your smartphone.
- On your smartphone, open the Cloud app and find the downloaded file.
- Click on three dots next to the file → Create a shortcut → Desktop.
- Finished! Now the file is available on the home screen and synced to the cloud.
⚠️ Warning: The free Mi Cloud tariff only provides 5GB of storage. If a file is large (like a video), it will have to be removed from the cloud after creating a shortcut, otherwise it will take place.

5. Method: Advanced method through ADB (for experienced)
If you need to automate your desktop file placement (for example, for scripts or bulk add-on), you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires command-line skills and enabled USB debugging mode.
Instructions:
- Enable Developer Mode on Xiaomi: Settings → About Phone → MIUI Version (click 7 times)
- Activate USB Debugging in Settings → Additional → For developers.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.CREATE_SHORTCUT -n com.android.documentsui/.picker.PickActivity -d file:///storage/emulated/0/Download/yourfile.pdf -t "application/pdf" (substitute MIME-type).
