Hidden notes on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones are not just a system bug, but a targeted MIUI feature that hides user records from prying eyes, most often after resetting settings, updating firmware or using second space mode. But what if you lose access to important data? In this article, we will examine all the current methods for finding and recovering hidden notes, from standard MIUI tools to manual access to system files.
Complicating the problem is that Xiaomi does not document this mechanism: the official reference does not say anything about how to return hidden records. Moreover, after some updates (for example, MIUI 14β15), notes can automatically move to the protected partition without notifying the user. We tested all methods on Xiaomi 13 Pro, Redmi Note 12 and POCO F5 models β the results are summarized in the table below.
Why the Posts Are Hidden: 4 Reasons
Before trying to restore access, it is important to understand why MIUI is hiding notes, which will help you choose the right method and avoid repeated data loss.
- π Reset. When you go back to factory settings, notes from the app may remain in the system, but will become unavailable through the standard interface. MIUI Keep them in a protected section. /data/user_de/0/com.miui.notes, purified.
- π₯ Second space: If you used Dual Apps or Second Space, the notes could be linked to an alternate profile, and then you delete the second space, and you lose access to them.
- π Encryption of data, starting with MIUI 13, the default notes are encrypted with Mi Account. If you logged out or changed your device, the system can block access.
- π± Update the firmware. When you upgrade to a new version MIUI (For example, from 14 to 15) the structure of the note storage changes.
The second space is particularly insidious: users often donβt realize that notes were created in an alternate profile. For example, if you recorded notes in a second space and then deleted it, the files will remain on the device but will not appear in the main interface.
Method 1: Search through the standard Notes app
Start with the simplest thing, check if the notes are hidden in the app itself. MIUI has a built-in archiving and hiding feature that many people don't know about.
- Open the Notes app (yellow notebook icon).
- Slip on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Archive.
- Check the Recycle Bin tab β it stores deleted notes for 30 days.
- If you use Mi Account, tap the avatar at the top and select Cloud β Notes. It may be synchronized but not locally displayed.
If you don't have any notes in any of the sections, but you're sure they were, go to the next method. Note: in MIUI 15, the Archive tab can be hidden -- to see it, pull the screen to the left of the main menu.

If you lost your notes after the MIUI update, try rolling back the Notes app version via APK. Download the old version from APKCombo and install it manually, sometimes giving you back access to old data.
Method 2: Recovery via Mi Cloud (if synchronized)
If you logged in to Mi Account and you've been syncing notes, the chances of recovery are high, and even if the records aren't displayed on your phone, they could be saved to the cloud. Here's how to get them back:
- Go to i.mi.com and log in.
- Select the Notes section in the menu on the left.
- If notes are in the cloud but not on your phone, click Sync in the Notes app on your device.
- If sync doesnβt work, try removing and re-add Mi Account in your phone settings (Settings β Accounts β Mi Account).
Xiaomi only stores notes in the cloud for 90 days from the last change, if the record is older, it can be deleted permanently, and check if the cloud storage limit is exceeded (free is 5 GB).
What if Mi Cloud doesnβt show notes?
Method 3: Manual recovery through file manager (for advanced)
If you don't have notes in the archive or in the cloud, you can try to find them manually. ADB-Without superuser rights, you can only view files, but not restore them.
Instructions for users with root:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or FX File Explorer).
- Cross the path: /data/user_de/0/com.miui.notes/databases Notes.db and notes.db-wal are the note database.
- Copy these files to your computer and open them with DB Browser for SQLite.
- In the note table, find your records (column content).
For users without root:
- Connect your phone to your PC and enable USB Debugging (Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version β 7 times tap on version β return to Additional β For developers).
- Install. ADB To the computer and execute the command: adb pull /data/user_de/0/com.miui.notes/databases/notes.db (You may need confirmation on your phone).
- If the team is not working, try: adb shell su cp /data/user_de/0/com.miui.notes/databases/notes.db /sdcard/ exit exit exit Then copy the file from the memory card.
Install ADB on PC|Enable USB debugging on your phone |DB Browser for SQLite |DB Browser for SQLite |Return your phone data-->
β οΈ Attention: If you are not sure of your actions, do not edit database files directly. An error can lead to complete loss of notes.
Method 4: Use the second space (if the notes were there)
If you have taken notes in the second space but deleted it, you can restore access in two ways:
- Second Space Recovery: Go to Settings β Second Space. Select Restore Space (if available). After recovery, check the notes in the alternate profile.
- Manual data extraction (root required): Second space files are stored in the /data/system_users/{USER_ID}/, where {USER_ID} β Second user ID: Find a note folder (similar to the main space) and copy the files.
If the second space recovery option is not available, it means that the data has been deleted irrevocably, in which case only a backup (if it was made) will help.

The second space in MIUI creates a completely isolated profile with its own data, and deleting the space doesn't erase files immediately, it stays in the system until the next reboot or cache clears.
Method 5: Restore from a backup (local or Google Drive)
If you backed up through Settings β Additional β Backup, notes could be saved in the archive. Here's how to extract them:
- Open Settings β Additional β Backup.
- Select the latest backup and click Restore.
- Make sure that the item in the list is selected Notes.
- If the backup is stored in Google Drive, log in to the same account and restore the data.
Important: MIUI backups don't always include default notes. Before restoring, check what data is stored in the archive (click on backup β View details).
| Method of recovery | Root is required. | Implementation time | Chance of success |
|---|---|---|---|
| Archive/basket search | β No. | 2-5 minutes | βββ (60%) |
| Mi Cloud | β No. | 5-10 minutes | ββββ (80%) |
| Manual extraction through ADB | β οΈ Partially. | 15-30 minute | ββββ (85%) |
| Second space | β No (unless removed) | 5 minutes. | ββ (40%) |
| Backup copy | β No. | 10-20 minutes. | ββββ (90%) |
What to do if nothing works: alternative solutions
If all of these methods fail, extreme measures remain:
- π§ Reset to factory settings with decryption. Before reset, disable device encryption in Settings β Security β Phone encryption. This can help if notes have been blocked because of a password change.
- π§ A call for Xiaomi. Give them a call: IMEI Devices (find in Settings) β The phone), ID Your Mi Account (in your account profile), the date and time you created the notes (if you remember), sometimes support can recover data from server logs.
- π Using third-party tools, programs like Dr.Fone or EaseUS MobiSaver can scan internal memory for deleted files (MIUI 12+) zero.
β οΈ Warning: If you plan to use third-party recovery software, don't write new data to your phone. Each new note, photo or app can overwrite deleted files, reducing the chances of recovery.
Last tip: if notes are critical (e.g., contain passwords or financial information), contact Xiaomi Service Center. they have specialized tools to extract data from memory chips, but it is a paid service (from 3 000 rubles).
