Why is it important to clean up the history on Redmi 9 regularly?
With its 4GB of RAM and Helio G80 processor, the Xiaomi Redmi 9 is capable of handling dozens of tabs simultaneously, but even it eventually starts to slow down due to an overloaded browser cache. Visit history, saved passwords, cookies and media cache take up to 1-2GB of memory per year of active use, which not only slows down the device, but also poses privacy risks β especially if you use public Wi-Fi networks or transfer your phone to other people.
Redmi 9 has two default browsers: the standard Mi Browser (from Xiaomi) and Google Chrome. Each stores data in its own way, and cleaning the history in one does not affect the other. Moreover, some applications (for example, Facebook or Instagram) use built-in browser engines that also accumulate βdigital garbage.β In this article, we will discuss all the ways of cleaning β from basic deletion of history to deep cache reset via the engineering menu, including little-known chips for Redmi 9 on MIUI 12/13/14.
Before you start, consider that clearing history doesn't always solve the problem of slow browser performance. If you've left lag after the procedure, check Settings β Memory β Cleanup β background processes or viruses may be to blame. But let's start with the simplest.
Method 1: Clearing History in Google Chrome
Google Chrome is the most popular browser on Redmi 9, but its cleaning settings are hidden deeper than in other apps.
- Open Chrome and tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- Choose a History. β Clear the data.
- Check the boxes across the street: π Browsing history (deletes the list of visited sites) πͺ Cookies and site data (resets authorization) ποΈ Cached images and files (frees up memory)
Time range
All the time.
Delete the data
β οΈ Note: If you are syncing with a Google account, the history may be saved to the cloud. To delete it completely, go to myactivity.google.com via your browser on your PC.
βοΈ What is removed when cleaning Chrome
After cleaning, Chrome can run slower for the first few minutes β thatβs okay, as it reloads the cache of frequently visited sites. If the brakes arenβt gone after 10-15 minutes, try restarting your phone or checking for free space in memory (Settings β Memory).
Method 2: Delete data in Mi Browser
Mi Browser is Xiaomi's proprietary browser, pre-installed on all Redmis, less voracious than Chrome, but also requires regular cleaning. The interface is simpler, but there are nuances:
- Open the Mi Browser and tap the three horizontal lines (menu) at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Settings β Confidentiality.
- Click Clear Personal Data and mark: π History (list of sites) π Passwords (if you need to reset saved logins) π¦ Cash (temporary files) π Form data (autofilling)
OK.
β οΈ Attention: Mi Browser has Read Mode, which stores copies of articles offline. This data is not deleted by a standard cleanup! To erase it, go to Settings. β Reading mode β Clear the cache.
π‘
If Mi Browser after cleaning still slows down, try to disable the option βPage Preloadβ in its settings β it actively uses memory in the background.
One of the advantages of the Mi Browser is the built-in ad blocker, but it also accumulates data. To reset its cache, go to Settings β Ad Block β Clear data. This can speed up page loading by 10-15%.
Method 3: Deep Cleaning through Android Settings
If you want to delete all browser data, including settings and extensions, you can use the Redmi 9 system tools. This method is suitable for Chrome, Mi Browser and other applications:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the browser you want (such as Chrome or Mi Browser) and tap it.
- Select Warehouse. β Clear the data.
- Confirm the action β it will delete all information, including bookmarks and settings!
β οΈ Note: This is equivalent to reinstalling your browser. If you sync with your Google account (in Chrome) or Mi Account (in Mi Browser), some of the data (such as bookmarks) will recover after you re-enter. But local data (such as an incognito history) will be lost irretrievably.
| Type of data | Is it removed during cleaning through "Settings"? | Is it restored after synchronization? |
|---|---|---|
| Viewing history | Yes. | No (except for synchronized data) |
| Saved passwords | Yes. | Yes (if synchronization is enabled) |
| Bookmarks | Yes. | Yes (if synchronization is enabled) |
| Cookies | Yes. | No. |
| Cash images. | Yes. | No. |
This method is useful if the browser has started spontaneously opening ads or redirecting to strange sites - this happens when you get infected with malware. After cleaning the data, it is also recommended to check the phone with an antivirus (for example, Avast or built-in MIUI Security).
Method 4: Cleaning the cache with Recovery Mode (for experienced)
If the browsers on Redmi 9 are extremely unstable and standard methods do not help, you can use Recovery Mode, which deletes all the cache of the system, including browser data, but does not affect personal files (photos, videos).
Instructions:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power Button and Volume up simultaneously until the Mi logo appears.
- From the Recovery menu, select Wipe & Reset β Wipe Cache (use volume buttons for navigation and power button for confirmation).
- Confirm the action and wait for the completion.
- Restart the phone (Reboot).
β οΈ Warning: Don't confuse Wipe Cache with Wipe Data! The second option (reset to factory settings) will delete all data from your phone, including photos and apps. Use it only as a last resort.
What happens if the Recovery Mode does not open?
Once the cache is cleared through Recovery, it can take up to 5-10 minutes to start the system, which is normal. Browsers will work from scratch, but some settings (such as language preferences) will have to be reconfigured.
Method 5: Automatic Cleaning with Xiaomi Cleaner
MIUI has a built-in Cleaner tool (in Russian firmware can be called "Cleaning") that can delete unnecessary files, including browser cache, which is less radical than previous ones and is suitable for regular maintenance:
- Open the Cleaner app (broom icon) or go to Settings β Memory β Clean.
- Slip it on Deep Cleanup.
- Select the Cash Applications section.
- Tag browsers (Chrome, Mi Browser, etc.) and click Clear.
If you use incognito mode frequently, remember that it leaves no trace of history on your device alone. Your provider or Wi-Fi administrator can still see the sites visited. Use Tor or VPN for complete anonymity.
On the Redmi 9 with MIUI 12+, there is a βPrivacy Modeβ feature in the Mi Browser, which encrypts history and cookies.
- Open Mi Browser and go to Settings β Privacy.
- Activate the option Confidential Mode.
- Install. PIN-code or pattern lock to access history.
