You've been looking for an important phone call record on your Xiaomi Redmi, but you can't find it? It may be hidden in a non-obvious folder, deleted by mistake, or stored in cloud storage. In this article, we'll look at all the possible storage locations for records, from the standard Dictator app to system directories that aren't displayed in the default explorer.
Xiaomi’s MIUI-based smartphones are unique in that call records can be stored in different locations depending on the firmware version, the phone model (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro vs Redmi 9A), and even the application used to record, and we’ve taken all the nuances into account and collected current methods for MIUI 12-15 and Android 10-14.
If you recorded a conversation manually (e.g., via a Dictophone) or automatically (via a MIUI function), but the file disappeared, don't panic. In 80 percent of cases, it can be restored by following our instructions, and let's start with the simplest ways and get to the advanced ones, including analyzing system logs.
1. Standard storage location: Dictophone appendix
The first thing to check is the built-in Dictophone app (also called Records or Voice Recorder) that is preinstalled on all Xiaomi Redmis and saves entries to its folder by default.
How to get there:
- 📱 Open the app menu and find the Dictophone icon (microphone on an orange background).
- 🔍 If there is no icon, use the search system (swipe down on the main screen). → Enter the recorder»).
- 📁 Inside the app, go to the "Records" or "All records" tab. Files are sorted by date.
If the recording was made through this app but it is not on the list, check:
- 🗑️ Recycle Bin tab (records are stored there for 30 days before final deletion).
- 🔄 Date filter – maybe the recording was made earlier than you think.
- 📌 Favorites folder – if you accidentally add it to it.
⚠️ Note: Some Redmi models (e.g. Redmi) A1 or Redmi 10C) The Dictator application may be simplified and not support call recording, in which case use the methods in the following sections.
2. Automatic call recording: where to look for files
If you have enabled automatic call recording in MIUI settings, the files are saved to a hidden system folder.
| MIUI version | The path to call recording | File format |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12–13 | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ | .amr or.mp3 |
| MIUI 14–15 | /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/ | .m4a or.ogg |
| Global firmware | /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ | .mp3 (default) |
To see these folders:
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB (in file transfer mode).
- Use Windows/macOS Explorer or file manager on your phone (e.g., Google Files**) by enabling the display of hidden folders.
- If there is no folder, check the call recording settings in Settings → Applications → Permissions → Microphone.
Important: Starting with Android 12, automated entries may be blocked due to Google's privacy policy. If the feature doesn't work, try third-party apps (Section 4).

3. Search the whole phone: how to find a keyword entry
If you don't remember where the record is saved, use a global file search. There are two ways to do this on Xiaomi Redmi:
Method 1. Built-in MIUI search:
- Open the Files app (folder icon).
- Click on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner.
- Enter a portion of the file name (e.g., “call”, “record”, date in 20260515 format).
- Select the Audio section in the search results.
Method 2. Search through Google Files:
- 📲 Install the Google Files app** (if not available).
- 🔍 In the menu, select "Search» → enter keywords (for example, the name of the interlocutor or a word from the conversation if the record is recognized).
- 📁 Check out the Audio and Recent sections».
If the search fails, try alternative file names:
- 📞 CallRecord_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.amr (standard-format MIUI).
- 🎤 AUD-YYYYMMDD-WA000X.m4a (If the recording is made via WhatsApp).
- 📱 rec_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.ogg (for recordings through third-party applications).
⚠️ Note: If you use Redmi with custom firmware (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), file paths may be different. /sdcard/ Root Explorer (superuser rights required).
4. Third-party recording applications: where they store files
If you used third-party applications to record calls (like Cube Call Recorder, ACR, or Boldbeast), the files may be stored in their own folders.
| Annex | The path to the records | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Cube Call Recorder | /storage/emulated/0/CubeBackup/ | Encrypted records, password required |
| ACR (Another Call Recorder) | /storage/emulated/0/ACR/ | Files in.amr format, sorted by contacts |
| Boldbeast Call Recorder | /storage/emulated/0/Boldbeast/ | Support for cloud backup |
| Truecaller | /storage/emulated/0/Truecaller/Recordings/ | Only for premium users |
How to find these folders:
- Open the file manager and go to /storage/emulated/0/ (internal memory).
- Look for a folder with the name of the application (see the table above).
- If there is no folder, check the settings of the application (it is possible that records are saved to the cloud).
Tip: If you have deleted the app but the records are still there, use DiskDigger or Recuva to recover files (Section 6).
💡
If the record is important, export it immediately after the conversation, and to do this, in the settings of the recorder application, turn on the option “Autoexport to Google Drive” or “Send to email”.
5. Cloud Storage: Mi Cloud, Google Drive and Others
Many Xiaomi Redmi users are unaware that records can automatically sync to the cloud.

- 🔄 In the annex, the Dictator» → «Settings» → «Autoboot».
⚠️ Attention: Starting with MIUI 14, Xiaomi has restricted automatic downloads of records to Mi Cloud due to privacy policy. If the feature is disabled, manually enable it in your account settings.
6. Recovery of deleted records: step-by-step instructions
If the record has been deleted, it can be restored within 30 to 90 days (depending on the method of storage).
Method 1. The basket in the application "Dictophon":
- 🗑️ Open the Dictator» → «Basket».
- 🔄 Select the desired entry and click "Restore».
Method 2: Recovery programs:
- 📱 Install DiskDigger or Dumpster from Google Play.
- 🔍 Select the Audio section and start the scan.
- 💾 Save the recovered files to a safe place.
Method 3. via PC (for power users):
- Connect Redmi to your computer in MTP mode.
- Use Recuva or EaseUS Data Recovery for deep scanning.
- Look for files with extensions.amr,.mp3,.m4a.
Important: The faster you start recovering, the better the chances of success. Once deleted, don't write new files to your phone, they can overwrite deleted data.

7. Alternative methods: transcription, call logs, screenshots
If you can’t find the record, try indirect ways to restore the information:
1.Transcription of conversation (MIUI 14+):
- 📝 Open the phone» → «Log of calls».
- 🔍 Find the right call and click on it.
- 📄 If there is a "Transcription" icon, click on it - there may be text of the conversation.
