Why is this process questionable? The fact is that Xiaomi is gradually removing the standard options to work with the Internet. Preparation: What to Know Before Copying
Before you start the transfer, check three key points:

This is the basic method that works on most devices, and the interface may vary slightly depending on the version of MIUI, but the algorithm remains the same:
- Open the Contacts app (an icon with a person’s silhouette).
- Tap it on three points (⋮) in the upper right corner and select Contact Management.
- Go to Import/Export Contacts → Exports to SIM-map.
- Choose. SIM-card (if there are two) and mark the contacts to copy.
The process can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes depending on the number of contacts. On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 13.0.6 for Redmi Note 11), the option "Export to SIM" is hidden - it must be activated through the developer settings (see Method 3).

Method 2: Through phone settings (alternative path)
If the option is not available in the Contacts app, try an alternative route:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Contacts → Memory.
- Tap on Export Contacts and select target SIM-map.
- Confirm the action, wait for completion (the indicator will appear in the status bar).
This method often works on POCO and older Redmis (until 2020 release), where the Contacts interface is simplified. Note: if you have a Google version of contacts installed (not the standard one from Xiaomi), the path will be different: Settings → Google → Contacts → Contact Management.
⚠️ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI Global 14.0.3) when exporting via phone settings, contacts may be duplicated. SIM Pre-existing records are best removed in advance.
Method 3: Enabling a Hidden Option through Developer Mode
On newer versions of MIUI (13.5+), the SIM export function can be disabled by default to return it:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone and tap 7 times to the MIUI Version.
- Back to Settings → Additionally. → For developers.
- Find the option to Show Export Contacts to SIM (or similar) and enable it.
- Restart your phone – the option will appear in the Contacts menu.
This method is confirmed on Xiaomi 12T, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and POCO F4. If the option is not on the list, try updating the firmware or use Method 4.
What to do if the developer mode is not activated?
Method 4: Using Third-Party Applications
If standard methods don't work, Google Play utilities can be a lifeline. We tested 5 popular apps, and the best results were:

Instructions for Sim Contacts Backup:
- Install the app and give access to contacts.
- Select Export to SIM and select the contacts you want.
- Confirm the export - the process will take 20-40 seconds.
⚠️ Note: Applications may request unnecessary permissions (e.g. access to the SMS Avoid such requests, as they are not required to work with contacts, and avoid utility rated below 4.0: they often contain advertising or malicious code.
Addressing common mistakes
Even with the right actions, users face problems, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
- ❌ "Failed to export contacts: Check if blocked SIM PIN-And the error also occurs when there's no free space on the map. Solution: delete old contacts with the map. SIM via phone menu (phone) → Settings SIM → Contact management).
