Why Call Records Can Disappear From Your Phone

You had an important conversation, turned on the record, but now you can't find it? This problem is familiar to many owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO. The fact is that the MIUI system does not always store audio files in obvious folders — their location depends on the firmware version, the phone model and even the recording method. For example, on the Xiaomi 13 Pro with MIUI 15, the recordings can lie in one place, and on the Redmi Note 10 with MIUI 12.5 – in another.

In addition, records are often "hidden" because of:

• 📱 Updates MIUI — After the upgrade, the paths to the files may change;
• 🔄 Resetting settings – if there was no backup;
• 🗑️ Clearing the cache of the “Phone” or “Dictophon” application»;
• ☁️ Sync with Mi Cloud – Files can be sent to the cloud automatically.

In this article, we will look at all possible storage locations, including hidden folders, cloud services, and third-party applications, and if files are not available, we will tell you how to restore them.

Standard Storage: Records folder in MIUI

In most cases, the recordings of calls to Xiaomi are saved in the Rec folder (from English Recordings) or CallRecord.

Internal memory → MIUI → sound_recorder → call_rec

How to get there:

1. Open the Files app** (Folder icon).
2. Go to the tab "Category» → «Audio».

If the folder is not, check:

• 🔍 Hidden files – enable display in the Files app settings» (⋮ → Settings → Show hidden files);
• 📁 Other disks – if you have a memory card installed, the records can be in the folder on it MIUI/sound_recorder;
• 📱 Another application – if you used not a standard “Dictorphone”, but, for example, Google Disctophone or ACR.

Where to find new MIUI versions (14/15)

With the release of MIUI 14 and MIUI 15, the logic of storing records has changed.

• 📁 Automatically archived in MIUI/backup/AllBackup/CallRecords;
• ☁️ Sync with Mi Cloud (if Settings are enabled) → Xiaomi account → Mi Cloud → Synchronization);
• 🔒 Encrypt – in this case, the files will have the.enc extension and will not open with a standard player.

Instructions for MIUI 14/15:

1. Open Settings → Applications → Application Management**.

Search through the Dictophone app

If you recorded the conversation not during the call, but through a separate application, check:

1. Go to the “Records” or “Calls” tab.

In some models (for example, POCO F5) records from the "Dictophone" are stored here:

If the application has been deleted, but the files are:

• 🔍 Use the search in the Files app for keywords: rec, call, voice;
• 📥 Check the folder. Android/data/com.miui.voiceassist — Sometimes the records are saved there.

How to Recover Deleted Call Records

If the tape was deleted, don't despair. There are several ways to get it back:

Important: If you recorded a conversation through a third-party app (such as ACR or Cube Call Recorder), recovery is only possible through their own cloud services or local backups.

The faster you start recovering, the better the chances of returning a record, and once you overwrite the memory (for example, installing an update or shooting a video), it is almost impossible to restore files.
