Have you turned on a recording of an important conversation on Xiaomi, but now you can't find the file? Or have you accidentally deleted the recording and want to restore it? The problem with finding audio files of calls is one of the most common among users of Xiaomi smartphones on MIUI. The fact is that the location of the recordings depends on the firmware version, the phone model and even on which application was used to record.
In this article, weโll look at all possible locations for Xiaomi devices (including Redmi, POCO, and Black Shark), explain why files can disappear from the gallery, and show you how to find them even after theyโre deleted. And if you use third-party recording apps, we have a separate section with instructions for Cube Call Recorder, ACR, and other popular programs.
1. Standard place of record storage in MIUI (default)
If you recorded a call through the built-in MIUI function (available on most models except for some regions due to restrictions), then the files must be saved to one of the system folders.
- ๐ MIUI 12โ14: /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/
- ๐ MIUI 15+: /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/ (or /Call Recordings/ on some models)
- ๐ For the Redmi Note 10/11/12: Sometimes the records are duplicated in /DCIM/CallRecordings/
To find the folder:
- Open the Explorer (the Files app).
- Go to the Device (or Internal Memory) section.
- Turn on the hidden folder display (if you canโt see MIUI or Recordings).
- Look for files with the.amr extension or.mp3 and- Call_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.
Important: on some models (e.g. Xiaomi 13T or POCO F5), records can be saved automatically to the Mi Cloud. Check Settings โ Xiaomi Account โ Mi Cloud โ Backups.
2.Why are the phone records not displayed in the gallery?
Many users are faced with the fact that the recordings are in the memory of the phone, but not shown in the standard gallery or music player.
- ๐ File format: MIUI Stores.amr (rarely.awb) records that not all players support.
- ๐ Hidden folder: System directories type /MIUI/ Often hidden from the multimedia scanner.
- ๐ซ Limitations MIUI: Some firmware records are not indexed to save resources.
- ๐ Cache Gallery: After deleting / transferring files, the cache is not updated.
How to fix it:
- Install a file manager (such as Solid Explorer or FX File Explorer) to show all files, including hidden ones.
- Use a player that supports.amr (such as VLC or MX Player).
- Update the media cache: go to Settings โ Apps โ All apps โ Media Storage โ Clear the cache.
๐ก
If.amr recordings are not played, convert them to.mp3 using the Audio Converter app (available from the Play Market).
3. Where do users of third-party applications look for records?
If you use third-party call recording software (such as Cube Call Recorder ACR, Call Recorder by Lovekesh or Boldbeast), the storage paths will be different.
| Annex | The path to the records | File format |
|---|---|---|
| Cube Call Recorder ACR | /storage/emulated/0/ACR/ | .mp3 or.ogg |
| Boldbeast Call Recorder | /storage/emulated/0/Boldbeast Recorder/ | .mp3 (configured) |
| Call Recorder by Lovekesh | /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ | .amr or.mp4 |
| Truecaller (embedded recording) | /storage/emulated/0/Truecaller/Recordings/ | .m4a |
๐ How to find it: Open the app's settings to write -- usually it's a save path. ACR It's the settings. โ Folder of the record.
Note: Some applications (e.g. Boldbeast) require manually specifying a save path when you first start up, and if you donโt set it up, the records can be saved to a temporary folder and deleted after the restart.
4. How to transfer the recordings of calls to the computer or the cloud?
If you need to save records for a long time or make room on your phone, transfer them to your PC or to cloud storage.
- ๐ป Through USB-cable: Connect your phone to your PC in File Transfer mode (MTP). Find the folder with the records (see sections above). Copy the files to your computer.
To the cloud:
- ๐ Google Drive: Upload files via the app or web version.
- ๐ Mi Cloud: Enable synchronization in Settings โ Xiaomi account โ Mi Cloud โ Backup.
- ๐ Yandex Disc./Mail.ru Cloud: Use official applications.

โ ๏ธ Note: when you transfer.amr records to Windows, they may not play without additional codecs. Install the K-Lite Codec Pack or convert files to Windows.mp3 pre-existingly.

5. How to recover deleted call records?
If you accidentally delete the records, you can try to restore them. Success depends on how long it took and whether you used the phone after deleting (new data can overwrite old ones).
๐ ๏ธ Recovery methods:
- Through the Recycle Bin: Some file managers (like Mi File Manager) have a Recycle Bin. Check the Recycle Bin section in the Files app.
- Specialized programs: DiskDigger (for Android) - scans internal memory. Recuva (for PC) - if you connect your phone as a drive. EaseUS MobiSaver - supports recovery of audio files.
๐น Important: Do not install recovery programs on the same drive where the records were stored (for example, on the internal memory of the phone) โ this will reduce the chances of success.
Backup copies:
Mi Cloud
Google Drive
โ ๏ธ Warning: Do not write new files to your phone after deleting your records (do not take photos, do not install apps) โ this increases the chances of recovery. โ Memory.
What if the recovery software doesnโt find the files?
6. Call recording settings in MIUI: where is the function enabled?
If you can't find the records, maybe the recording feature is just disabled in the settings. On Xiaomi, it can be hidden or blocked depending on the region. Here's how to find it:
๐ฑ For MIUI 12โ14:
- Open the Phone app.
- Press three points (โฎ) top-right โ Settings.
- Select Call Recording (or Call Recording).
- Turn on the option and select which calls to record (all incoming/outgoing only).
๐ฑ For MIUI 15+ (or if there is no point):
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Permissions โ Additional โ Call Recording.
- Enable permission for the Phone application.
- If you donโt have an option, install a third-party app (like Cube ACR).
๐ก
On models for Europe (EEA), the built-in call record is disabled due to GDPR. Use third-party apps or change the firmware region.
7. Frequent errors and their solutions
Problems with recording calls on Xiaomi are often related to settings or conflicts of applications.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Records are terminated in 1-2 minutes | Limitation of MIUI on recording duration | Use Boldbeast with the "Record in 2 parts" setting |
| No sound on the record (silence) | Locking the microphone or VOIP-ring | Enable "Record on both sides" in the application settings |
| Records are retained but not reproduced | A damaged file or incompatible format | Convert to.mp3 via Audio Converter |
| The recording application does not start | No permission to access the microphone | Check the permissions in Settings โ Apps |
๐น Tip: If you record calls often, turn off battery optimization for the recording app:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Select a recording application (such as Cube ACR).
- Press Battery Limitations โ No restrictions.
