Have you turned on a call recording on Xiaomi but can't find a file? Or have you accidentally deleted an important audio recording and want to restore it? In this article, we'll look at all the possible locations for the call records on Redmi, POCO and Mi smartphones, from standard folders to hidden system directories, and how to transfer the records to your computer, why they might disappear, and what to do if MIUI automatically cleans old files after 30 days.
We warn you right away: file location depends on the version of MIUI (12, 13, 14 or 15), the phone model and even the firmware region. For example, on the Xiaomi 13 Pro with the global version, the path will be one, and on the Redmi Note 10 with Chinese firmware β another. But donβt worry: we collected current data for all modern devices (2020-2026 release) and tested it in practice.
1. Standard storage location: Recorder folder
90% of the time, Xiaomi calls are recorded here:
- π /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/CallRecord/ β mainfolder MIUI 12β15.
- π /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ β Alternative path on older versions (MIUI 11 below).
- π /storage/emulated/0/Download/CallRecordings/ β If you have used a third-party application to record.
The files are formatted.m4a or.amr and named by template: CallRecord_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_phone_number.m4a. For example, CallRecord_20260515_143022_79123456789.m4a β This is a call recording from 15 may 2026 yearly 14:30 number +7 (912) 345-67-89.
How fast to find the folder:
- Open the Files app (Blue folder icon).
- Go to the Category tab β Audio.
- In the list, find the Recorder folder or search for the word CallRecord.
β οΈ Note: If the folder is empty, check your call record settings. In some regions (e.g. EU), the feature is disabled by default due to privacy laws. To activate it, go to Settings β Annexes β Permits β Dictaphone β Recording calls.
2. Hidden system folders: where MIUI hides records
If there's nothing in the Recorder folder, the files could be saved to a hidden directory.
- π /data/user/0/com.android.dialer/files/ β System folder of the Phone application (root rights required).
- π /data/media/0/MIUI/voice_recording/ β Alternative storage for voice assistant recordings.
- π /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.miui.voiceassist/files/ β If the recording was conducted through the Voice Assistant Xiaomi.
To see these folders:
- Connect your phone to your PC and turn on Developer Mode (click 7 times on the MIUI version in Settings β About Phone).
- In Settings β Additional β For developers, activate debugging over USB.
- Use an ADB or root-access file manager (such as Root Explorer).
How to get root rights to Xiaomi without risk?
Why can the records be in hidden folders?
- π± You used incognito mode in the Dictaphone app.
- π The recording was interrupted due to a failure (the file was saved as a temporary one).
- π΅ The call was recorded via Google Drive or another cloud application.
3. Cloud storage: automatic synchronization
If your Xiaomi has Mi Cloud sync enabled, call records can automatically be uploaded to the cloud.
- Open your Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud.
- Scroll down to Sync and check if the Dictaphone item is enabled.
- If yes, go to i.mi.com, log in and go to the Records section.
Records may also be stored in:
- π₯οΈ Google Drive (if you used the Call Recorder app from the Play Market).
- π₯οΈ Yandex.Disk or Mail.ru Cloud (when setting up automatic backup).
- π₯οΈ OneDrive (on devices with Microsoft Launcher preinstalled).
π‘
To speed up your search in the cloud, sort files by date of change. Call records are typically 1 to 10 MB in size and last from 30 seconds to several hours.
How to turn off automatic synchronization:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management β Recorder.
- Select Permissions β Storage and disable access to Mi Cloud.
- In the Dictaphone application itself, go to Settings β Cloud and deactivate the option.
4. Recovering deleted call records
If you accidentally delete a record, it can be restored within 30 days (if the cart has not been cleared).
βοΈ Recovery of deleted recording
For restoration without root rights:
- Install the DiskDigger app from the Play Market.
- Select the Internal Memory section and start the scan.
- Filter the results by expanding.m4a or.amr.
- Save the files found on SD-map.
If you have root access, use Undeleter:
adb shell su -c "find /data -name '.m4a' -o -name '.amr'"β οΈ Warning: Do not write new files to your phone after deleting the record - this reduces the chances of recovery. It is better to immediately remove the memory card (if you have one) and connect it to the PC through the card reader.
| Method of recovery | Root is required. | Time to scan. | Chance of success |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recycle bin in the Files appendix | β No. | 1 minute | 90% |
| DiskDigger (surface scanning) | β No. | 5-10 minutes | 60% |
| Undeleter (deep scanning) | β Yes. | 20β60 minutes | 85% |
| Recovery through Mi Cloud | β No. | 2-5 minutes | 70% |
5. Transfer of records to a computer or other device
To copy the phone calls to the PC:
- Connect Xiaomi to your computer via USB-cable.
- On your phone, select File Transfer Mode (not Charge!).
- On PC, open Explorer and go to This Computer β [Name of Your Phone] β Internal Storage β Recorder β CallRecord.
- Copy the desired files to any folder on the hard disk.
For Wi-Fi transmission:
- π² Use the Send Files to app TV (available on the Mi App Store).
- π² Set up. FTP-server ES Conductor or Solid Explorer.
- π² Send files to yourself by email or Telegram (limit - 2 GB per file).
π‘
When copying records on a PC, check that files do not have the "hidden" attribute. In Windows, open Control Panel β Folder Settings β View and uncheck the "Hide Secured System Files" box.
Format Conversion: If a.amr record is not played on a PC, convert it to.mp3 using Audacity or online-convert.com.
6.Why Call Records Are Losing and How to Fix It
Frequent reasons for the disappearance of records:
- ποΈ Autocleaning: MIUI By default, delete records older than 30 days. To turn this off, go to the Recorder. β Settings β Autoclean and deactivate the option.
- π Settings reset: After resetting to factory settings, the Recorder folder is cleared.Always back up before resetting!
- π΅ Application Conflict: Third-party writing programs (such as Cube Call Recorder) can overwrite system files.
- π Memory Lack: If the phone has less than 10% of the available space, MIUI Automatically delete old records.
How to prevent loss of records:
- π Regularly copy files to your PC or cloud.
- π Turn off autocleaning in the settings of the recorder.
- π± Use a separate recording application (such as Automatic Call Recorder) that saves files in its folder.

7. Alternative ways to record calls on Xiaomi
If a standard recorder is not suitable, try these methods:
- π€ Google Drive: Enable recording manually during a call via Google Drive widget (saves to the cloud).
- π± Third-party apps: Cube Call Recorder β records both ends of a conversation (unknown sources required). Automatic Call Recorder β sorts records by contacts and saves them to the cloud β ACR β supports encryption of records.
- π§ External voice recorder: Connect a second phone or digital voice recorder to the microphone input (adapter required) USB-C β 3.5 mm).
Important: In some countries (e.g. Russia and the EU), recording calls without the consent of the interlocutor is prohibited by law.
