Have you recorded an important conversation on Xiaomi, but can't find the file? Or do you want to know where audio recordings of calls are stored by default to transfer them to your computer? In this article, we will analyze all possible storage locations on Redmi, POCO and other Xiaomi smartphones, from the standard Dictator app to third-party programs and cloud services.
The manufacturer does not always obviously place records files, and their location may depend on the version of MIUI, the phone model and even the method of recording (automatic or manual). We have collected up-to-date data for MIUI 12-14 and new devices from 2023-2026, including nuances for Chinese and global firmware.
Important: If you’ve used third-party recording apps (like Cube Call Recorder or ACR), the path to the files will be different, as we’ll explain below.
1. Standard place of storage of records in MIUI
By default, Xiaomi smartphones store conversation records in the internal memory folder, accessible through any file manager.
- 📁 For MIUI 12–14 (Global/European version): /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/
- 📁 For MIUI Chinese (CN): /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/callrecorder/
- 📁 For older versions (MIUI 10–11): /storage/emulated/0/Recorder/ or /sdcard/Recorder/
The files are formatted.m4a or.amr and named by template: CallRecord_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.m4a, where YYYYMMDD — date of entry, and HHMMSS — Time, for example, CallRecord_20260515_143022.m4a signifies 15 may 2026 yearly 14:30:22.
🔍 How to find a folder quickly:
- Open the Files app
- Go to the "Category" section» → «Audio».
⚠️ Note: Some models (e.g. Redmi Note) 12 Pro+) records may be hidden in a folder /MIUI/voice_assistant/. If you do not find files on the standard path, check this directory.
2.Where to look for records if you used the Dictophone app
The standard MIUI Sound Recorder app can record not only ambient sounds, but also phone conversations (if the function is unlocked in the settings).
| Type of record | The path to files | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Regular recording (microphone) | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/ | .m4a, .mp3 |
| Record of the conversation | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ | .amr, .m4a |
| Cloud Composites (Mi Cloud) | Synchronized in "Notes and Sounds" | .m4a |
🔹 How to turn on the recording of conversations in the "Dictophon»:
- Open the Dictator app.
- Press three points (⋮) → «Settings».
- Select "Call Record" and activate the slider.
- Tell me which calls to record: all, only incoming or outgoing.
⚠️ Important: On some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra), the call recording function in the Dictator may be disabled due to the limitations of Google Play Policy.
☑️ Preparation for the search for records
3. entries from third-party applications (Cube ACR, Boldbeast, etc.)
If you installed programs to record calls from Google Play (such as Cube Call Recorder ACR, Boldbeast Call Recorder or Call Recorder – Automatic Call Recorder), the paths to the files will be different.
- 🎤 Cube ACR: /storage/emulated/0/CubeBackup/ or /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/
- 🎤 Boldbeast: /storage/emulated/0/Boldbeast/ or /sdcard/Boldbeast/
- 🎤 Automatic Call Recorder: /storage/emulated/0/CallRecorder/
- 🎤 Truecaller: /storage/emulated/0/Truecaller/Recordings/ (if the recording function is enabled)
🔧 How to Change the Way of Saving in Third-Party Apps:
- Open the call record app.
- Go to the settings (usually the icon) ⚙️).
- Find the “Save folder” or “Storage” section.
- Please indicate a new path (e.g., on the SD-map: /storage/XXXX-XXXX/DCIM/CallRecords/).
Attention! Apps like Cube ACR can save records encrypted (.enc files) and you'll need an original app or a special player to listen to them.
Why can't the records be saved?
4. Cloud storage of records: Mi Cloud and Google Drive
Xiaomi smartphones can automatically sync recordings of conversations with the Mi Cloud or Google Drive cloud (if backup is configured).
🔸 In Mi Cloud:
- Open the “Mi Cloud” app on your phone.
- Sign in with your Xiaomi account.
- Go to the section “Notes and sounds” → “Sounds”.
- Find the desired entry by date or file name.
🔸 Google Drive:
If you have set up a backup through Google One, the records can be stored in the Backup → CallRecorder (for third-party apps) or MIUI folder to find:
- Open Google Drive in your browser.
- In the search box, type:audio.
- Filter the results by date of creation.
⚠️ Note: Cloud copies of records can take up space in your storage. for example, Mi Cloud provides only 5 GB of free recordings, and records in the format.m4a weight ~1-2 MB per minute of conversation. Clean up unnecessary files regularly!
5 How to Recover Deleted Records of Conversations
If you accidentally deleted a conversation record, you can try to restore it. Here are the working ways for Xiaomi to do this.
🛠️ Method 1: Through the File Manager Recycle Bin
In the standard application “Files” from Xiaomi there is a shopping cart where deleted files are stored for up to 30 days:
- Open the Files» → «Categories».
- Scroll down and press "Basket."
- Find the deleted recording (filter by type "Audio").
- Select the file and click "Restore".
🛠️ Method 2: With the help of third-party utilities
If the cart is cleared, use data recovery programs:
DiskDigger (free version looking for audio files)
Recuva (requires root rights for deep scanning)
Dr.Fone (a paid solution with high efficiency)
🔹 Instructions for DiskDigger:
- Install DiskDigger from Google Play.
- Launch the app and select “Full Scan” (requires root).
- Check the audio file type (.m4a,.amr).
- Wait for the scan to finish and restore the files.
Important: The less you use your phone after deleting, the better the chances of recovery. New data overwrites deleted files!
💡
Before recovery, turn off mobile internet and Wi-Fi to avoid overwriting data by system processes.

⚠️ Note: When transferring files via Bluetooth.m4a can be converted into.mp3 Use the original format to preserve the original format. USB cloud.
💡
The most reliable way to transfer is through USB-cable, as it does not compress files and works without the Internet.
