Where to look at Xiaomi downloads: all the ways to Android

You downloaded a file to your Xiaomi but can't find it? Is the Download folder empty and your browser has no download history? This problem is familiar to many MIUI smartphone owners -- the proprietary shell often distributes files to non-obvious directories or hides them from the user. In this article, we'll look at all possible download storage locations on Redmi, POCO and Black Shark devices, including system folders, app cache and even recovery of deleted files.

Xiaomi's unique feature is that the way to download depends on the way you download it, whether it's through a browser, messenger, file manager, or third-party app. For example, Chrome saves files in one folder and Telegram in another, both of which can be hidden from standard viewing, and we'll show you how to find root-free downloads using built-in tools and third-party utilities.

1. Standard Download folder in MIUI

The first place to look is the Download system folder, which is on most Xiaomi smartphones, and it's on the way:

/storage/emulated/0/Download/

To get there:

• 📁 Open the Files app** (yellow folder icon).
• 🔍 Go to the Category tab → Downloads.
• 📂 Or manually select the Device → Internal memory. → Download.

If the folder is empty, it doesn't mean there are no files. It's possible they're saved elsewhere (see the following sections). Also check for hidden files: in the top right corner of the file manager, click three dots → Settings → Turn on Show hidden files.

⚠️ Note: On some models POCO (for example, POCO X3 Pro, the Download folder can be called Downloads (plural). If you don't find it, try both.

2. Downloads via browser (Chrome, Mi Browser, Firefox)

Every browser on Xiaomi saves files to its folder.

If you downloaded a file through your browser but don’t see it in the Download folder, check:

• 🔄 Browser cache: sometimes files remain in temporary memory. Clear the cache in the app settings.
• 📥 Download history: in the browser, open the menu → Downloads – there may be a link to the file.
• 🔍 Search by name: In the file manager, type the file name into the search bar.

3. Downloads from instant messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber)

Messengers on Xiaomi often save media files and documents to their folders rather than to the general Download.

• 📎 Telegram: /storage/emulated/0/Telegram/Telegram Documents/ or /Telegram/Telegram Audio/ (music).
• 💬 WhatsApp: /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Documents/.
• 📱 Viber: /storage/emulated/0/Viber/media/Viber Documents/.
• 📧 Mail (Gmail, Mi Mail): investments are saved in the /storage/emulated/0/Download/ prefixed attach_.

To quickly find the file from the messenger:

1. Open the file chat.
2. Click on the attachment message → select Save (if not already saved).
3. Tap on saved file → Open folder (in Telegram) or Show in file manager (in WhatsApp).

⚠️ Note: WhatsApp files from chats are automatically deleted after 30 days unless manually saved. To avoid this, turn on the option to Save incoming media in the chat settings.

4. System downloads and MIUI updates

Some files are automatically downloaded by the system and stored in hidden folders.

• 🔄 Updates MIUI: /storage/emulated/0/Downloaded_rom/ (firmware /cache/ (time-file).
• 📦 Cash app: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/{packet}/cache/.
• 🎵 Music and ringtones: /storage/emulated/0/Media/audio/notifications/.

To see these folders:

1. Open Files** → click on three dots → Settings → turn on Show Hidden Files.

Important: folder Downloaded_rom It can weigh a few gigabytes if there are old firmware in there, and you can remove it, but only if you don't plan on going back on the previous version. MIUI.

5. Search for downloads via ADB (for power users)

If files are not in any of the folders, they can be found through ADB (Android Debug Bridge), a method suitable for power users and requires connecting a smartphone to a PC.

Instructions:

1. Install ADB Tools on your computer.

If ADB doesn’t find the file, try searching in the app cache:

adb shell ls /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/ | grep -i "com.android.chrome"

⚠️ Note: Do not delete files from folders /system/ or /data/ without root rights, this can cause the system to fail. ADB It gives access to service directories, but you should carefully change them.

6 Recovery of Remote Downloads

If you accidentally delete a downloaded file, you can try to restore it.

• 🔍 DiskDigger (no need to root for photos/video, but need rights for documents).
• 📁 Dumpster (works like a shopping cart – restores deleted files).
• 💾 Recuva (requires the phone to be connected to a PC).

Instructions for DiskDigger:

1. Install an app from the Play Market.

The chances of recovery are higher if:
