Have you been looking for a recording of an important conversation on your Xiaomi Redmi 9 but can't find it? Or are you just planning to turn on a call recording feature but don't know where the files are saved? This is a problem that many Xiaomi smartphone users are familiar with โ standard folders are often hidden and the recording settings are scattered across different menus.
In this article, weโll look at all possible locations for Redmi 9 records (including Redmi 9A/9C/9T models), explain how to enable automatic recording and where to search for files manually, and learn how to recover deleted records and why they can disappear from your phoneโs memory. If you use third-party recording apps, we have instructions for them too.
Warning: the location of files depends on the version MIUI (even on the same Redmi. 9 The paths may differ with different firmware. So we'll give you the actual data for MIUI 12/13/14 We will show you how to check your version.
1. Standard location for call records on Redmi 9
By default, Xiaomi Redmi 9 stores conversation records in a hidden system folder, depending on whether you use a built-in recording module or a third-party application, starting with the standard version.
The main folder with records is here:
/storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/Alternative path (for some versions of MIUI 13+):
/storage/emulated/0/Recordings/CallRecord/To see these folders:
- Open any file manager (e.g., standard Files or Total Commander).
- Enable the display of hidden files in the manager settings (usually in the Three Dots menu โ Settings โ Show Hidden Files).
- Follow one of the paths indicated.
๐ก
If you don't have MIUI or Recordings folders, then your phone's call recording is disabled by default. Check the settings in the next section.
Record files are usually.amr or.mp3 formats and are named by the template:
- ๐ Incoming_[Date [time].amr - incoming calls;
- ๐ฑ Outgoing_[Date [time].amr - outgoing calls;
- ๐ Auto_[date [time].amr - Automatic records (if Auto Recording is enabled).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some of the Redmi firmware 9 records are saved in the Download root folder with the name CallRecord_[number].amr. If you do not find files by standard paths, check the downloads.
2 How to enable call recording on Xiaomi Redmi 9
If you can't see the entries in the folders, maybe the feature just isn't activated. On Redmi 9, there are two ways to enable the recording: through your phone's settings or while you're talking.
Method 1: Automatically record all calls
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Press on. โฎ (three-point) โ Settings.
- Select the Recording of conversations (or Call recording in English firmware).
- Activate the switch Record all calls.
- Select the storage format: Internal memory or SD-map (if installed).
Method 2: Manually record during a call
During the conversation, a Record button will appear on the screen, click on it to start or stop recording, and the file will be saved automatically after the call is completed.

If there is no record button, check:
- ๐ง Version MIUI โ on some firmware, the function is hidden (update may help);
- ๐ฑ Phone region โ in some countries, recording calls is prohibited by law and Xiaomi is blocking the feature;
- ๐ ๏ธ Root rights โ if you changed the firmware, you could disable system services.
3.Why call records disappear with Redmi 9
Many users complain that the records are deleted after a few days or not saved at all.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Records disappear in 3-7 days | Automatic cache cleaning is triggered | Turn off cleaning in Settings โ Storage โ Cleanup or transfer files to another folder |
| Files are not saved. | There's not enough disk space. | Clear your memory or change the way you save it SD-map |
| Records are cut off. | Time limit (maximum 30-60 minutes) | Use third-party apps for long conversations |
| No sound on the tape. | The microphone is blocked or defective | Check the microphone in the recorder or reinstall the phone application |
Critical feature of Redmi 9: if you're updating MIUI version 11 before 12/13, Old records could have stayed in the folder /MIUI/voice_recorder/, a) new ones are retained in /Recordings/. Check both directories.
Another common reason is battery optimization, and the system can pause the background of the recording module to avoid this:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find the phone and open the permissions.
- Enable Auto Start and Work in the background.
- In the Battery section, select No Limits.
4. How to recover deleted call records
If the records are gone, you can try to restore them. Success depends on how long it has been since you deleted them and whether you used the phone after that (new data can overwrite old files).
Method 1: Through the File Manager Recycle Bin
Some managers (e.g. Mi File Manager) have a basket function.
- Open Files โ Categories โ Recycle Bin.
- Find files with the.amr or.mp3 extension.
- Restore them by clicking Restore.
Method 2: With the help of specialized programs
For deep memory scanning, suitable:
- ๐ DiskDigger (free version looking for audio files);
- ๐ ๏ธ Recuva (requires root access for full scan);
- ๐ฑ GT Recovery (specializes in recovery with Android).

Method 3: Through Backups
If youโve synced your phone to Mi Cloud or Google Drive, check:
- Mi Cloud: Settings โ Xiaomi Account โ Mi Cloud โ Backup.
- Google Drive: Open the web version and find the Backups folder.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Recovered files may be corrupted. Before important conversations, duplicate the recordings to the cloud or PC โ for example, via Telegram (send the file to yourself in Save Messagesยป).
5. Third-party applications for recording calls
If the built-in Redmi 9 feature doesnโt suit you (for example, due to time limits or poor sound quality), you can use alternative programs.
| Annex | Advantages | Deficiencies | Where records are kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cube ACR | Records both ends of the conversation, cloud storage | Paid version for advanced functions | /CubeRecordings/ |
| Call Recorder by Lovekesh | Simple interface, automatic decryption | Advertising in the free version | /CallRecorder/ |
| Truecaller | Integration with spam call database | Not all calls are recorded (depending on the region) | /Truecaller/Recordings/ |
To make the third-party application work correctly:
- Download it from Google Play or the official website.
- When you first start, provide all the permissions you request (especially Recording Audio and Access to Calls).
- In the application settings, specify the folder to save (it is better to choose). SD-map).
- Add the app to the battery optimization exceptions (as described in Section 3).

- On your phone, select File Transfer (FTP) mode.
- On your computer, open the phone folder and find the directory with the records (see Section 1).
- Copy.amr/.mp3 files to any folder on your PC.
Method 2: Through cloud services
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Google Drive: upload files manually or set up automatic Recordings folder sync;
- โ๏ธ Mi Cloud: Enable backup in Settings โ Xiaomi account โ Mi Cloud;
- ๐ค Telegram: Send files to Save Messages or your channel.
Method 3: By email
If there are few records, you can send them to yourself by email:

๐ก
Clean your phoneโs record folder regularly to keep your memory from clogging, and transfer important files to your PC or cloud once a month and delete them from your device.
7. Solving call recording problems
If the recording is not working or is not working properly, try these methods:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| No sound on the tape. | The microphone is blocked or defective | Check the microphone on the recorder. If it doesn't work, contact the service. |
| The record is cut off. | Time limit (30โ60 minutes) | Use third-party applications without restrictions |
| Files are not saved. | Lack of rights or space | Clear the memory and check the permissions for the Phone application |
| No button on the record. | Function disabled in firmware | Update MIUI or use third-party software |
If nothing helps, try resetting your phone settings (but save important data first!):
- Go to Settings โ About the phone โ Reset settings.
- Select Reset all settings (does not delete files) or Delete all data (complete reset).
- After rebooting, check the recording work.
If the problem persists, it may be a hardware malfunction (e.g., a damaged microphone or audio chip), in which case, contact the Xiaomi service center.
