Why you canโt see the cart on the Redmi Note 7 and where to look for it
You deleted an important photo or document on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and now you can't find a basket to recover the file? The problem is that this smartphone doesn't have a single system basket - like Windows or macOS computers. Instead, the files end up in different "temporary storage" depending on which application they were deleted and where they were stored initially.
For example, photos from the standard Gallery are sent to one folder, files from Explorer to another, and documents from Google Drive or Mi Cloud may not even get into the local cart. In this article, we will analyze all possible places where deleted files are stored on Redmi Note 7, including hidden system folders and cloud services, and learn how to turn on the basket if it is disabled, and what to do if files disappear from it forever.
Before proceeding to the instructions, check:
- ๐ฑ Version MIUI: on old firmware (below) MIUI (12) the basket may not be available in the gallery.
- ๐ Application Updates: If you havenโt updated the Gallery or Explorer in a while, some features (including the Recycle Bin) may not work properly.
- โ๏ธ Cloud Sync: If Mi Cloud is enabled, deleted files can automatically be archived in the cloud, even if you canโt see them on your phone.
Method 1: Recycle Bin in the standard Xiaomi Gallery
The most obvious place to look for deleted photos and videos is the built-in Xiaomi Gallery, where the shopping cart works on the principle of โ30 days to recoverโ: files are stored for a limited time, then deleted forever.
To open the basket in the gallery:
- Launch the Gallery app (an icon with colored squares).
- Slip on three horizontal lines (โฐ) top-right.
- In the drop-down menu, select the basket item (urn icon).
- You will see a list of deleted files. To recover, click on the file โ Restore.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you do not see the item in the gallery menu, then:
- ๐ง Recycle Bin disabled in settings (see section on settings below).
- ๐ You've got an old version. MIUI (before MIUI 11), where there was no basket.
- ๐งน You have already cleaned the cart manually (files are deleted irrevocably).
Method 2: Temporary folder.trash in Explorer
If files were deleted through Explorer (or any other file manager), they could have been taken to a hidden.trash system folder, which is created automatically when the file is first deleted and stores data until you manually clean it or restart the phone (on some firmware).
How to find a.trash folder:
- Open the Explorer (icon with folder and magnifying glass).
- Go to the Device or Internal Memory section.
- Enable the display of hidden files: Tap on three dots (โฎ) in the upper right corner. Select Settings. โ Show hidden files.
.trash
| File type | Where to find a basket | Storage period |
|---|---|---|
| Photo/video (Gallery) | Gallery โ Bastard | 30 days |
| Documents, APK, archives | The guide โ.trash | Hand-cleaning |
| Files from Mi Cloud | Mi Cloud โ Cart (in the web version) | 60 days |
| Google Photo | Google Photos โ Bin | 60 days |
โ ๏ธ Note: The.trash folder may not be available if:
- ๐๏ธ You use a third-party file manager (for example, ES A conductor or Solid Explorer that has its own basket.
- ๐ You recently reset your phone to factory settings (folder resets).
- ๐ ๏ธ Your Redmi Note 7 has custom firmware installed (like LineageOS), where the file deletion logic is different.

Method 3: Enabling the basket in the MIUI settings
If the Recycle Bin is not displayed in Gallery or Explorer, it may be disabled in the system settings. On Redmi Note 7, this feature can be activated manually - this does not require root permissions.
Instructions for the basket:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find the gallery in the list and tap it.
- Select Memory โ Clear data (this will reset the gallery settings, but wonโt delete files!).
- Return to the Gallery and check if the basket item appears.
If this doesnโt work, try an alternative method:
- Launch the gallery.
- Tap it on three points (โฎ) โ Settings.
- Find the Recycle Bin option and turn it on (if the slider is grey).
- Set a file retention period (by default 30 days).
๐ก
If the cart still doesn't appear after you turn on, try updating the Gallery app through Google Play or Mi App Store. Sometimes bugs are fixed in new versions.
Method 4: Recovery via Mi Cloud (Xiaomi Cloud)
If you are logged in to a Xiaomi account and synced with Mi Cloud enabled, deleted files could be automatically saved to the cloud shopping cart, a major advantage of this method is that files are stored for 60 days (twice as long as in the local shopping cart).
How to recover files from Mi Cloud:
- Open your browser on your phone or computer and go to i.mi.com.
- Sign in with the same account that is linked to the Redmi Note 7.
- Go to the basket section (urn icon in the side menu).
- Select the files you need and click Restore.
โ ๏ธ Attention:
- โ๏ธ The cloud cart is only available if files are synced to Mi Cloud prior to deletion (check Settings). โ Accounts. โ Mi Cloud).
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi is better for recovering large amounts of data โ mobile traffic can run out quickly.
- ๐ If you reset your phone to factory settings and donโt remember the Mi Account password, it will be impossible to recover files from the cloud.
What to do if files are lost from the cloud?
Method 5: Third-Party Applications for File Recovery
If you don't find any files in any of the bins, you have one last chance to use specialized data recovery tools. Redmi Note 7 doesn't have root rights, but there are proven options:
| Annex | File types | Need root? | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| DiskDigger | Photos, videos, documents | No (baseline mode) | Google Play |
| Recuva (for PC) | Any files. | No (plug your phone to your PC) | Official website |
| GT Recovery | Messages, contacts, photos | Yes (for deep scanning) | Google Play |
โ ๏ธ Attention:
- ๐ซ Do not install recovered files back on Redmi Note 7 โ save them to PC or cloud to avoid overwriting.
- โก The faster you start recovery, the better the chances are: new files can overwrite deleted data.
- ๐ Free versions of programs often limit the amount of files you can recover (for example, only 10 photos in DiskDigger).
๐ก
Third-party utilities only work if the deleted files have not yet been overwritten with new data. After recovery, be sure to back up to an external medium!
What to do if the cart is empty or the files are lost forever
If you have checked all possible locations, but the files have not been found, radical measures remain:
Verification of backup copies:
- ๐ฑ Local backups: look at Settings โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset. If you've done backup before, try to restore it.
- โ๏ธ Google Drive: If Automatic Sync is enabled, check the Backup folder in the Google Drive web version.
- ๐พ External media: connect your phone to your PC and check the removable memory card (if you have one).
2. Contact the service center:
If files are critical (such as work documents or only photos), you can try professional recovery. On the Redmi Note 7, this is possible if:
- ๐ ๏ธ The phoneโs memory is not physically damaged (for example, after a fall or water hit).
- ๐ง You are ready to provide the phone to specialists (in some cases, disassembly of the device is required).
- ๐ฐ The budget allows you to pay for the service (the cost starts from 3 000 rubles).
Prevention for the future:
To avoid losing files:
- ๐ Set up automatic backup in Mi Cloud or Google Photos.
- ๐ Regularly transfer important files to a PC or external drive.
- ๐ฒ Use apps with a shopping cart function (e.g. Google Photos stores deleted files for 60 days).
