Where to look for phone records on Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro: all ways

This problem is familiar to many Xiaomi smartphone owners — especially on models with custom MIUI firmware, where the recording settings can be hidden in unexpected menus.

Important: Redmi 8 Pro (codename begonia) records calls differently than new Xiaomi models with MIUI 14+. We took into account all the nuances of this particular model, from the firmware version to the features of the file system.

1. Standard storage location: Records folder in the Phone app

The first thing to check is the built-in record storage in the Phone app. On the Redmi 8 Pro with MIUI 11-13, it works like this:

⚠️ Note: Some Redmi 8 Pro firmware only stores records for 30 days, and then automatically deletes them. To avoid this, transfer files to another location (for example, Downloads) or enable sync with Mi Cloud.

2 Where are the records files on the Redmi 8 Pro physically stored

If the records are not displayed in the Phone app, they can be found manually through the file manager. On Redmi 8 Pro, they are stored in one of two folders:

1. /sdcard/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ — standard-place MIUI 11–12.
2. /sdcard/Recordings/CallRecord/ is an alternative path on some firmware versions.

The files are.amr or.mp3 and are named by pattern: record_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.amr, where:

• YYYYMMDD - date (year, month, day)
• HHMMSS is the time (hours, minutes, seconds).

To open these folders:

1. Use the standard MI File Manager or install Total Commander/FX Explorer.
2. Enable the display of hidden files: in MI File Manager press ⋮ → Settings → Show hidden files.
3. If the folder is not, then the records have never been saved (see the section “How to Enable Record”).

If the files are not played on your phone, copy them to your PC and open them via VLC Player or Audacity – they support the.amr format.

3. How to enable automatic call recording on Redmi 8 Pro

If you've never recorded a conversation, you need to activate this feature first, and on the Redmi 8 Pro, it can be hidden due to regional restrictions (it's illegal to record calls in some countries).

Method 2: Through a hidden menu (if there is no "Recording calls")

Some of the Redmi 8 Pro firmware has the option hidden to unlock it:

1. Enter the code ##83781## in the Phone app (this activates the recording testing menu).
2. Reboot the phone.
3. Check the settings "Phone" - should appear item Call Record.

How to recover deleted records:

Method 1: Recovery programs

Use utilities like DiskDigger, Recuva (for PC) or GT Recovery (for Android).

1. Connect your phone to your PC in File Transfer (MTP) mode.
2. Select the Internal Memory section and start a deep scan.
3. Look for files with the.amr or.mp3 extension.

MIUI 12+ has a Recycle Bin for deleted files:

1. Open the Conductor. → Basket.
