You accidentally deleted an important contact on your Xiaomi Redmi and now you don't know where to look for a recovery basket? Don't panic - unlike standard Android devices, Xiaomi smartphones with a MIUI shell have a built-in feature for temporary storage of remote contacts. However, finding it is not as easy as it seems: the path depends on the firmware version, phone model and even regional settings.
In this article, we’ll look at all the ways you can access your contact cart on Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4/X5 and other popular models, how to restore deleted numbers in 5 minutes, why the shopping cart can disappear after a MIUI update, and what to do if the feature is disabled by default, and also a hidden method of recovering through Google Contacts, which is not written in the official instructions.
What is a Contact Cart in Xiaomi and How Does It Work?
The MIUI contact basket is a temporary storage for deleted records, similar to the "basket" on the computer, and by default, remote contacts are stored here for 30 days, after which they are permanently erased.
- 📱 Local contacts (save in the phone’s memory) are in the basket. MIUI.
- ☁️ Google Contacts (Synced to an Account) – in the Google shopping cart, not in the Google shopping cart MIUI.
- ⏳ The storage period can be changed in the settings (maximum - 60 days).
- ⚠️ After resetting the phone to factory settings, the basket is cleaned.
It is important to understand that the feature is not available on all versions of MIUI. For example, in older firmware (before MIUI 11), the contact basket was missing, and in MIUI 14+ its location has changed. If you do not find it on the standard path, check the shell version in Settings → About Phone → MIUI version.
Where to find the contact basket in MIUI: the standard path
On most modern Xiaomi Redmi smartphones (with MIUI 12 and later), the contact basket is hidden in the Contacts app.
- Open the Contacts app** (an icon with a human silhouette).
- Slip along three horizontal lines (☰) top-left.
- Select “Contact Management”** → “Basket”.
If you have a POCO F3/F4/F5 or a Redmi K-series, the path may be slightly different.
Contacts → ⚙️ Settings → Contact management → Recycle BinMake sure that contact is removed no more than 30 days ago
Check if your contact with Google is synced
Connect to Wi-Fi to speed up the process
Close all background applications-->
If you don't see Recycle Bin, it means that the function is disabled or your version of MIUI doesn't support it, in which case, move to the next section with alternative methods.
⚠️ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI 13 Global) The cart is hidden by default. To activate it, go to Settings. → Annexes → Contacts → Permits and enable access to storage.
Alternative ways to find a basket on Xiaomi Redmi
If the standard path doesn’t work, try these methods:
1. Search through the MIUI control panel
On some models (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro+) basket is placed in a separate menu:
Settings → Accounts and synchronization → Local contacts → Cart2.Use of search by system
Swipe down the main screen to open the search, and type in the query "Contact Cart"**. The system should show direct access to the function.
3. Restoration via Google Contacts (if sync was enabled)
If the contact has been synced with Google, it can be restored via the web version:
- Go to contacts.google.com.
- In the left menu, select “More” → “Cancel Changes”.
- Specify the time range (up to 30 days ago) and click Confirm.
Why can't the basket be missing?
| Xiaomi model | MIUI version | The way to the basket | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11 | 12-14 Global | Contacts → ☰ → Management → Basket | It's stable. |
| POCO X3 Pro | 13.0.4+ | Settings → Contacts → Cart | May require a reboot. |
| Redmi 9A | 12.0.9 | Absent. | Upgrade to MIUI 13+ is required |
| Redmi K50 | 14.0.5 | Contacts → ⚙️ → Basket | Supports recovery package |
How to Recover Contacts from Xiaomi Cart
Once you have found the basket, recovery takes only a few steps:
- Check the necessary contacts (or click “Select all”**).
- Slip the Restore button** (usually at the bottom of the screen).
- Confirm the action. Contacts will be back on the main list.
If the Restore button is inactive:
- 🔄 Reboot your phone – sometimes it helps with glitch MIUI.
- 📱 Check if there is enough memory (at least 100 MB).
- ☁️ Turn off and turn on contact sync again in Settings → Accounts.
💡
If you need to restore a lot of contacts, use the export function: in the basket click «⋮» → «Export" and save the.vcf file to Google Drive or computer.
⚠️ Note: Once restored, contacts may be duplicated. To delete duplicates, open Contacts → ☰ → Management → Combine the takes.
What to do if the cart is empty or contact is not restored
If there is no contact in the cart, try these methods:
1. Verification of MIUI backups
Xiaomi automatically backs up contacts when you update the system to find them:
Settings → About Phone → Backup and Reset → Local BackupsChoose the most recent copy and restore only contacts (do not touch other data so as not to overwrite the current information).
2. Use of third-party applications
If standard methods don’t help, install one of these apps (available on Google Play):
- 🔍 Undeleter Recover Files & Data scans your phone’s memory for remote contacts.
- 📱 GT Recovery – works without root rights, but requires a connection to a PC.
- ☁️ DroidKit – a paid solution with a high recovery rate.
Before using third-party tools:
Create a backup of current contacts
Check the reviews about the app (rating >4.5)
Do not give the app access to SMS/call
Use only verified sources (Google Play, APKMirror)-->
3. Appeal in support of Xiaomi
If the contact is critical (such as a work number), contact official support for:
- 📧 Write to support@xiaomi.com with the theme “Reconciliation of contacts».
- 📞 Call the hotline number (for Russia: +7 495 660-09-25).
- 💬 Write to the chat on the site mi.com/ru/support.
Please indicate when applying:
- Phone model and MIUI version.
- Approximate date of removal of contact.
- Whether Mi or Google account was enabled
💡
If the contact was deleted more than 30 days ago, the chances of recovery are minimal, in which case only checking backups or contacting the carrier (if the number was in your phone book) remains.
How to Prevent Loss of Contact in the Future
To avoid losing important numbers, set up automatic sync and backup:
1. Enable synchronization with Google
Settings → Accounts and sync → Google → Synchronize contactsThis will allow you to restore contacts even after resetting the phone.
2.Configure MIUI backup
Settings → About Phone → Backup and Reset → Automatic BackupSet the copy frequency (Web weekly recommended).
3.Export contacts manually
Once a month, export your contacts to the.vcf file:
Contact → ☰ → Control → Import/Export → Export to the deviceSave the file to Google Drive or send it to your mail.
4.Use cloud services
Popular alternatives:
- ☁️ Mi Cloud – Xiaomi’s built-in cloud (up to 5GB free).
- 📱 Simpler Contacts – automatically backs up your files.
- 🔗 Sync.com – Secure encrypted storage.
💡
Create a separate Mi Account specifically for backups so you won’t lose access to contacts even when you change your main account.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When working with a basket of contacts, users often face these problems:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The basket is empty, although contacts have been deleted recently. | Synchronization with Google overwrote the data | Check out Google Contacts → «Repeal the changes» |
| The Restore button is inactive | Lack of rights or memory | Clear the cache of the Contacts app in the settings |
| The cart disappeared after the MIUI update | Resetting the application settings | Reinstall the update or roll back to the previous version |
| Restored contacts without names | Damage to data during deletion | Use third-party tools (such as GT Recovery) |
Another common mistake is to remove contacts directly from the cart, and many users think tapping on the contact in the cart will reveal details, but in fact, it can lead to the final deletion. Always use the Recover button!
⚠️ Note: If you use two of these SIM-cards, contacts with each of them can be stored in separate baskets. Check both tabs in the Contacts app (usually signed as «SIM 1" and «SIM 2»).
