Why recordings of the recorder "disappear" and where to look for them
Have you recorded an important conversation, lecture or voice notes on Xiaomi but can't find a file in the gallery? The problem is that the standard Dictaphone app (or Sound Recorder) stores audio not where users are used to looking for media. Unlike photos that automatically land in DCIM/Camera, the recorder's recordings are hidden in separate system folders - and their location depends on the MIUI version, smartphone model and even regional firmware.
Another trap: many users confuse the built-in voice recorder with voice messages on WhatsApp or Telegram. These files are stored in completely different places! In this article, we will analyze all possible paths to recordings on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO - from standard to hidden, and also tell you how to recover deleted audio files if they are "missing" after an update or reset.
Standard location of recordings of the recorder on Xiaomi
On most Xiaomi devices with MIUI 12-14 firmware, the default entries are saved in the folder:
/storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Or alternatively, on some models:
/storage/emulated/0/Music/Recordings/To find her:
- Open any file manager (e.g., embedded Files or Total Commander).
- Go to the root directory of internal memory (Internal drive).
- Find the Recordings or Music/Recordings folder.
If you don't have a folder, check the voice recorder settings. In some versions of MIUI, you can manually change the path:
- ๐ฑ Open the Dictaphone app.
- ๐ง Tap it on three points (โฎ) โ Settings โ Conservation folder.
- ๐ Make sure you are on the right path (or change it).
Alternative storage options on different models
The manufacturer doesn't adhere to a single standard, so the location of the records may vary.
| Model/Series | MIUI firmware | The path to the records | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11/12 | 12โ14 | /Recordings/ | Sometimes duplicated in /MIUI/sound_recorder/ |
| POCO X3/X4/X5 | 12โ13 (Global) | /Music/Recordings/ | On Chinese firmware โ /MIUI/voice_recorder/ |
| Mi 11/12/13 | 13โ14 | /Documents/Recordings/ | Files can be hidden without ROOT |
| Redmi 9/9A/9C | 11โ12 | /MIUI/SoundRecorder/ | File format:.m4a or.amr |
| Black Shark 4/5 | 12โ13 | /BlackShark/Record/ | Requires permission to access the folder |
