Have you recorded an important conversation on Xiaomi Redmi but canโt find the file? Or accidentally deleted the record and want to restore it? In this article, we will analyze all possible storage locations for call records on Redmi smartphones (including Note 12 Pro+, POCO X5, Redmi 10C and others), and also tell you how to configure automatic saving and avoid data loss.
Xiaomi doesnโt always use standard ways to store records โ they may vary depending on the MIUI version, regional firmware, or even the call app installed. Weโve analyzed official documentation, 4PDA forums, and user reviews to gather up-to-date information. Importantly, if youโve used third-party apps (like Cube Call Recorder or ACR), the search algorithm will be different โ and weโll talk about that too.
We warn you right away: in some countries (e.g. the EU), recording calls without the consent of the interlocutor may violate privacy laws.
1. Standard place of storage of records in MIUI
By default, call records on Xiaomi Redmi are stored in the deviceโs internal memory along the following path:
/storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/Alternatively (depending on the version of MIUI):
/storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/To get there:
- Open Explorer (for example, Files from Xiaomi or Google Files).
- Go to the Internal Memory (or Device) section.
- Find the file. MIUI โ sound_recorder โ call_rec.
Record files are usually formatted.m4a or.amr and named by template: Call_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.m4a, where YYYYMMDD โ date, HHMMSS โ If the file is not available, check it:
- ๐ Recording settings: You may have disabled saving in Settings โ Annexes โ Calls. โ Recording calls.
- ๐ฑ Phone model: on some POCO The routes may differ (see section on alternative locations).
- ๐๏ธ Recycle Bin: Google Files Stores Deleted Records for 30 Days.
๐ก
If you can't see the file MIUI, Turn on the hidden files in the Explorer settings. Google Files does this through the menu. โฎ โ Settings โ Show hidden files
2. Alternative storage paths on different models
On some Xiaomi devices (especially POCO or global firmware), records can be saved in other folders.
| Model/firmware | The path to the records | File format |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 11/12 (MIUI 13-14) | /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/ | .m4a |
| POCO X3/X4 (Global) | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/voice_recorder/call_rec/ | .amr |
| Redmi 10/9 (MIUI 12) | /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ | .mp3 |
| Redmi K50 (China) | /storage/emulated/0/miui/voices/recorder/ | .wav |
If your model is not in the table, try searching the file manager.
- *.m4a โ for AAC recordings;
- *.amr - for compressed records;
- call_* or rec_* โ name-pattern.
On POCO F3 and POCO F4 with MIUI 13 firmware for POCO, records can be stored in the Mi Cloud by default. Check this in the Calls settings:
Settings โ Call recording โ Reservation location3.Mi Cloud entries: how to find and download
If your Redmi enabled sync with Mi Cloud, the records could automatically be uploaded to the cloud to find them:
- Open the Mi Cloud app (or go to i.mi.com).
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account as you do on your phone.
- Select the Records or Calls section (the name may vary).
- Click on the desired file and download it to the device.
Please note:
- ๐ The Mi Cloud only has 5GB of free space by default, and if it's full, the new records won't sync.
- โณ Records are stored in the cloud for 30 days from the date of deletion on the phone (unless otherwise configured).
- ๐ In some regions (e.g. India), the cloud-based recording synchronization function may be disabled by law.
What to do if Mi Cloud records are not displayed?
If you don't find records in your phone's memory or in the cloud, try using the web version of Mi Cloud. Sometimes the mobile app doesn't show all the files. Go to i.mi.com, log in and check the Device section. โ [Your Redmi] โ Files. โ Records.
4. Search for records in third-party applications
If you're using a third-party application, rather than a standard Call app (e.g. Cube Call Recorder, ACR, Truecaller), the storage paths will be different.
| Annex | The path to the records | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Cube Call Recorder | /storage/emulated/0/CubeBackup/ | Records are encrypted, a password from the application settings is required. |
| ACR (Another Call Recorder) | /storage/emulated/0/ACR/ | Files are sorted by contacts in subfolders. |
| Truecaller | /storage/emulated/0/Truecaller/Recordings/ | Records are only available in the app itself. |
| Call Recorder by Lovekush | /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ | .mp3 format, file names contain a phone number. |
To find entries in these applications:
- Open the app itself and check the History or Records section.
- If files are not in the interface, use the explorer to search along the way from the table.
- Cube Call Recorder may require manually exporting records through the app menu.
Check the history of records in the application itself
Find the application folder through the explorer
Export records if they are encrypted
Check the application settings for cloud backup
-->
Important: Some applications (like Truecaller) don't save records in the public domain, you can only listen to them inside the program, and if you delete the application, the records can be lost forever.
5. Recovering deleted call records
If you accidentally delete a record, you can try to restore it. Here are 3 working ways:
- Recycle Bin in Google Files: Open the Google Files app, go to the Recycle Bin section and find deleted files with the.m4a or.amr extension. Restore them by clicking on the โฉ๏ธ icon.
- Recovery software: Use utilities like DiskDigger, Recuva (for PC) or Dumpster. Important: Do not write new files to your phone after you delete them, which reduces your chances of recovery.
- Backup of Mi Cloud: If automatic backup is enabled, check the archive in Mi Cloud along the Device path โ [Your Redmi] โ Backups. Recovery can take up to 24 hours.
The chances of success depend on:
- โฑ๏ธ Time since the removal (the less, the better).
- ๐ฑ Phone activity after deletion (recording new files overwrites deleted data).
- ๐ Availability of backups in the cloud or on PC.
๐ก
The most reliable way to avoid losing records is to set up automatic backups to Mi Cloud or Google Drive.
If none of these methods worked, try contacting Xiaomiโs support team with the phone model and deletion time, and in rare cases, they can recover data from servers (for example, if the recording synced with Mi Cloud but is not displayed in the interface).
6. Set up automatic record saving
To avoid losing important records, set up automatic save and backup. Here's how to do it on Xiaomi Redmi:
- Enable call recording: Go to Settings โ Apps โ Calls โ Record calls and activate the option. Choose which calls to record: all incoming or outgoing only.
- Select the Save Place: In the same menu, click the Save Place and specify: ๐ฑ Internal memory (by default); ๐ฅ๏ธ SD-card (if supported); โ๏ธ Mi Cloud (recommended for backup).
Set up automatic synchronization
In Settings โ Accounts โ Mi Cloud enable synchronization for Call Records and Calls.
Additional advice:
- ๐ If the record is important, export it manually to your PC or other cloud (e.g. Google Drive).
- ๐ Use tags in the Calls app to quickly find the right records.
- ๐ Check your records folder regularly and delete unnecessary files โ they take up space.
๐ก
Create a shortcut for the entries folder on your desktop: open the explorer, find the folder call_rec, press โฎ โ Add it to the main screen, so you can access it quickly.
7. Why can't the records be saved?
If call records are not saved, the reasons may be as follows:
- ๐ซ Lack of permission: check that the Call app is allowed access to the Microphone and Storage in Settings โ Annexes โ Permits.
- ๐ต Regional restrictions: In some countries (e.g. the U.S.), call recording is disabled by default due to privacy laws.
- ๐ Incompatibility with VoLTE/VoWiFi: On some Redmi, the recording does not work with active VoLTE (includes in Settings). โ SIM-maps and mobile networks โ Challenge 4G).
- ๐ ๏ธ Firmware error: on MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 13 were recording bugs - upgrade your phone to the latest version.
To diagnose the problem:
- Try to record a test call (for example, to another number).
- Check if the recording notice appears during the conversation.
- Install a third-party app (like Cube Call Recorder) and check if the record is working on it.
How to turn on the firmware without this function?
If the problem is not solved, try resetting the Calls app settings:
Settings โ Applications โ Calls โ Storage โ Clear dataAfter that, you will have to reconfigure the recording, but often this helps to return the functionality.
