Recording phone conversations on Xiaomi Redmi 9T is a useful feature for recording important conversations, interviews or evidence. But what if you turn on a record and then can't find a file? Android (namely MIUI from Xiaomi) stores audio files in non-obvious places, and also throws them in different folders depending on the version of the firmware and the way of recording.
Many users are faced with the problem of: there is a record, but where to look for it? In this article, we will analyze all possible locations β from standard directories to hidden system folders, and also tell you how to recover deleted files and why they can disappear after updating MIUI. If you use third-party applications for recording (like Cube Call Recorder or ACR), they have their own storage rules β we will talk about this too.
Before you start searching, make sure that the recording was actually done. On Redmi 9T, the call recording feature is disabled by default in most regions due to legal restrictions. To activate it, you either need to use third-party utilities or enable a hidden option through the engineering menu (more about this in one of the sections below).
1. Standard place of storage of records in MIUI
If you used the built-in recording feature (available in some regions or after manual activation), the files should be saved in the folder. MIUI/sound_recorder It's on the internal drive:
/storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/However, there are a few nuances:
- π The folder can be called differently: call_rec, Recordings or simply rec β depends on the version MIUI.
- π The files are.amr or.mp3 name-named rec_20260515_123456.amr (date + time).
- π If there is no folder, check if the entry is enabled in the settings of the Phone application (section Record conversations).
Important: In the latest versions of MIUI 14+ for Redmi 9T, the built-in record can save files to the Mi Cloud by default. To check this, open Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud β Backups and see if Records of Conversations sync is enabled.
π‘
If the folder sound_recorder empty, try searching for files through the built-in Explorer (File app) by searching for.amr or.mp3 filtered.
2. Alternative folders: where else can the records lie
If there is nothing in the standard directory, check these locations:
| folder | Way | When used |
|---|---|---|
| Recordings | /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/ | Standard place for recordings with MIUI 12+ (if the option is enabled in the phone settings). |
| CallRecordings | /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ | Older versions of MIUI (up to 11th) or after manual transfer. |
| Android/data/com.android.providers.media | /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.android.providers.media/files/ | Hidden records created by system services (root required to access) |
| Download | /storage/emulated/0/Download/ | If you manually saved records from the Dictaphone application. |
On Redmi 9T with MIUI Global firmware, recordings are often duplicated in the Music folder, a system bug associated with the media scanner. To avoid confusion, sort files by creation date: fresh recordings will be at the top of the list.
Critical detail: if you have updated MIUI version 11 on 12+ without resetting, the old records could have remained in the folder /MIUI/voice_recorder/ β The system creates data when migrating.
Check the folder. MIUI/sound_recorder
Look for files with.amr or.mp3 extension
Sort files by date of change
Check the Mi Cloud (if synchronization is enabled)-->
3. entries from third-party apps: where to look
If you use third-party programs to record calls (such as Cube Call Recorder, ACR, or Boldbeast), the files are stored in their own folders.
- π± Cube Call Recorder: /storage/emulated/0/CubeBackup/ or /storage/emulated/0/CubeCallRecorder/
- π€ ACR (Another Call Recorder): /storage/emulated/0/ACR/ (file-format.3gp)
- π§ Boldbeast Call Recorder: /storage/emulated/0/Boldbeast Recorder/ (manually adjusted)
One of the things that these apps have is that they can encrypt records or save them in hidden folders, and for example, Boldbeast hides files by default, and you need to use the built-in player of the application to view them.
Tip: If you don't find the application folder, open its settings and find the Storage folder or Record Location section. In ACR, it's like: Settings β Record folder β Show in Explorer.
How to find hidden folders without root rights?
4. Cloud Storage: Mi Cloud and Google Drive
Xiaomi is aggressively promoting its Mi Cloud, and call records can automatically sync to that cloud to check:
- Open your Settings β Xiaomi Account β Mi Cloud.
- Select βBackupsβ and find the βConversation Recordsβ section.
- If the option is enabled, download the backup archive (the files will be in.ab format - they need to be unpacked).
Also, records can be saved to Google Drive if you use apps with integration (such as Call Recorder by Lovekesh).
β οΈ Note: If you delete a record from the cloud, you can only restore it within 30 days (for Mi Cloud) or 60 days (for Google Drive.
5. Recovery of deleted records
If you accidentally delete a record, you can try to restore it with specialized utilities. 9T fit:
- π οΈ DiskDigger β Searches for deleted files without root rights (but with restrictions).
- π Recuva (requires to connect your phone to your PC in mode) MTP).
- π± Dumpster β a shopping cart application that saves deleted files (you need to install in advance).
The recovery algorithm:
- Install DiskDigger from Google Play.
- Select the Audio section and start the scan.
- Filter the results by format (.amr,.mp3,.3gp).
- Save the files found to a safe place (for example, on a PC).
β οΈ Warning: Do not install recovery software on the same partition where the records were stored! This can overwrite deleted data. Use a memory card or external drive.
π‘
The chances of recovery depend on how long it has been since the removal, and the faster you start the scan, the higher the probability of success.
6 Why records "disappear" and how to fix it
Redmi 9T users often complain that the recordings are missing after:
- π Updates MIUI (especially 11 to 12+).
- π§Ή Cleaning the cache of the application Phone or Recorder.
- π Resetting settings to factory.
- π± Moving files to the cloud and then deleting local copies.
Decisions:
- Before the update MIUI Make a backup copy of the folder MIUI/sound_recorder PC-only.
- Turn off automatic recording sync in Mi Cloud if you donβt want to lose local files.
- Use third-party apps with a storage setting on a memory card (like Boldbeast).
If the records are missing after resetting, check the /MIUI/backup/AllBackup/ folder β sometimes the system saves backups of media there before resetting.
7 How to turn on call recording if it is not in the settings
On Redmi 9T with global firmware, the recording function is often hidden to activate it:
- Install Activity Launcher from Google Play.
- Find the com.android.dialer section (the phone app).
- Start activity.settings.CallRecordingSettings.
- Enable the βRecord Conversationsβ option and select the save format.
An alternative way is to use the engineering menu:
##4636## β Phone Information β Menu (three dots) β Recording settingsβ οΈ Note: Not all operators support network-level call recording. If the feature doesn't work after activation, try third-party apps.
