A personal album is a secure storage inside the standard Xiaomi Smartphone Gallery app, and its primary purpose is to hide selected photos and videos from public access so that they don’t appear in the main feed and are not visible to anyone who can pick up your phone.
Unlike the.nomedia folder (which simply excludes files from the media scanner), a personal album encrypts content and requires authentication to access, which means that even if someone connects your smartphone to your computer or retrieves your memory card, files from your personal album will remain inaccessible without a password.

How to Enable and Set Up a Personal Album on Xiaomi
You can activate your personal album directly in the Gallery app. Instructions are suitable for most Xiaomi, Redmi and other models. POCO s MIUI 12/13/14:
- Open the Gallery app.
- Tap the three-point menu (⋮) top-right.
- Select Personal Album (or Private Safe in English).
- Click Enable and follow the tips to set up your password.
- Choose the Unlocking Method: PIN-code, pattern lock or fingerprint.
Once activated, a new tab will appear in the gallery, Personal Album, where you can move files.
- Open the photo in the gallery.
- Press three points (⋮) → Move it to a personal album.
- Confirm the action by entering a password.

Important: when you first turn on, the system will suggest you back up the encryption key. If you lose your password and don't save a backup, file access will be impossible to restore - even at the Xiaomi service center.
Where to store a personal album on Xiaomi: the physical location of the files
Files from the personal album don't disappear without a trace, they're stored in a secure folder on the device's internal memory.
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.miui.gallery/private/However, it is not possible to open this folder simply:

⚠️ Note: If you forget the password for your personal album, you can't restore access to files, even through the Xiaomi service center. The only way out is to reset the album (with loss of all data) or remember the password.
Problem 1: Personal album doesn't open after update MIUI.
Decision:
- Reboot the phone.
- Update the Gallery app through Play Market.
- If it doesn’t help, reset the settings of the gallery: Settings → Annexes → gallery → Warehouse → Clear the data.
After the reset, the album will remain in place, but it may be necessary to re-enter the password.
Problem 2: Files from a personal album take up space twice.
It's normal to move a file to an album, and you don't delete the original, but you create an encrypted copy to make room.
