If your Xiaomi Redmi 6A suddenly stops booting and the screen displays the message "The system has been destroyed," don't panic. This error is due to damage to system files, but in 90% of cases it can be fixed yourself without going to the service center, most often the problem occurs after a failed MIUI update, a failure when you crash through Fastboot, or because of a critical battery discharge during the system operation.
In this article, we will discuss all possible causes of the error, offer step-by-step instructions for restoring the smartphone, and give recommendations on how to avoid repeated failures. Importantly, some methods require a computer and special tools (for example, Mi Flash Tool or ADB), but we will also describe solutions that can be used without additional hardware.
Before you start repairing, make sure you have a backup of important data – in most cases, system recovery results in a complete wipe of the device’s memory.
Why is there a problem with “The system has been destroyed”?
The message “The system has been destroyed” signals that the boot partition or critical system files are corrupted, and this can happen for several reasons:
- 🔄 Interrupted update MIUI — If during the installation of the update "over the air» (OTA) or through Recovery smartphone turned off (the battery is discharged, disconnected from charging).
- 💻 Fastboot Firmware – Using an incompatible version MIUI or failure during the process (e.g. disconnected) USB-cable).
- 🔋 Critical battery discharge – if the battery was discharged to 0% during system operation, it could damage the file structure.
- 🛠️ Manual intervention in system files – removal or modification of system applications (for example, through Root or ADB).
- 🦠 Viral infection is rare, but some malware can damage the boot sector.
On the Redmi 6A, this error is more common than on new models, due to the outdated processor architecture (MediaTek Helio A22) and the features of working with eMMC memory. For example, with prolonged use without restarting, memory cells can deteriorate, which leads to failures when reading system files.
⚠️ Note: If the error occurred after a fall or mechanical damage to the smartphone, the problem may be associated with disconnection of the memory plume or damage to the chips.
First steps: What to do immediately after a mistake occurs
Before you start complex manipulations, follow a few simple steps that will help you avoid temporary failures and save time:
- Reboot your smartphone forcefully. Press the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the screen goes out. Then try turning the device back on.
- Connect the charger. Sometimes the error is due to insufficient battery voltage. Wait 10-15 minutes, then try again to turn on.
- Try to log into Recovery Mode. To do this, press Power + Volume up for 5-7 seconds. If the Recovery menu opens, select Reboot.
If you don't boot your phone after that, you can go to more serious recovery methods. Importantly, don't try to turn the device on repeatedly in a row, which can aggravate the file system damage.
☑️ Preparing for Redmi's restoration 6A
Method 1: Stock Recovery (without PC)
If you have managed to log in to Recovery Mode, you can try to restore the system without connecting to the computer, which is suitable if the error occurred due to minor damage to the system files.
Instructions:
- Turn on your smartphone in Recovery mode: pinch Power + Volume up.
- Select Wipe Data (or Wipe & Reset) from the menu, then confirm the reset (Yes).
- After clearing the data, go back to the main menu and select Reboot.
If the error is repeated after reset, try the second option:
- In Recovery, select Connect with MI Assistant (if you have one).
- Connect your smartphone to Wi-Fi (if available) and wait until the system tries to download and install recovery automatically.
⚠️ Note: Recovery resets all user data, including photos, contacts and apps. If you have synced with Mi Account enabled, some of the data can be restored after you log in to your account.
What happens if the Recovery Mode does not open?
Method 2: Fastboot Firmware (using PC)
If Recovery doesn't work, you'll have to reflash your smartphone through Fastboot, USB-cable and official firmware for Redmi 6A.
Step-by-step:
- Download the firmware. The official firmware for Redmi 6A (codename cactus) can be found at MIUI Downloads. Choose a stable version for your model. Unpack the downloaded archive into a folder on your computer (a file with the.tgz extension should appear).
- Install drivers. Download and install drivers for MediaTek (such as MTK Driver Auto Installer). Connect the smartphone turned off to your PC by holding Volume down (to log in to Fastboot).
Swipe the device through the Mi Flash Tool.
- Download and install the Mi Flash Tool.
- Open the program, press Select and indicate the path to the unpacked firmware.
- Connect the smartphone in Fastboot mode (the screen should display the hare in the hat-eared).
- Press Refresh in the Mi Flash Tool, then Flash.
- Wait for the process to finish (5-10 minutes), and if you get a green tick, you get a successful firmware.
Important: when using the SP Flash Tool, you need to precisely match the firmware to your model and region. The wrong Scatter file can finally "kill" the device!
⚠️ Note: If after the scaling of the SP Flash Tool smartphone does not respond to buttons and does not turn on, possibly damaged Preloader. In this case, you need programming through Test Point (only in the service center).
Method 4: Unlocking the bootloader and installing custom firmware
If all previous methods failed, you can try unlocking the bootloader and installing custom firmware (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), which is suitable for advanced users, as it requires working with ADB and Fastboot.
Instructions:
- Unlock the bootloader. Apply for unlock through the Mi Unlock site (you will need a tied Mi Account). Download the Mi Unlock Tool and follow the instructions.
Install custom Recovery (TWRP)
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.imgSweat the custom firmware.
- Download the appropriate firmware (for example, from the XDA Developers forum).
- Transfer the file to your smartphone through ADB Sideload or SD-map.
- In TWRP, select Install and specify the path to the firmware.
The advantage of this method is the ability to install the current version of Android (for example, Android 10 instead of the standard Android 8.1 on the Redmi 6A). However, there are risks: not all features can work correctly (for example, the camera or fingerprint sensor).
💡
Unlocking the bootloader resets all data and can result in some features being blocked (e.g. Mi Pay or Widevine L1 for Netflix in HD).
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of the above methods have not yielded results, the following scenarios are possible:
- 🔧 Hardware malfunction: damage to the memory chip (eMMC) or power controller, which requires diagnostics at the service center.
- 🔄 Wrong firmware. Make sure you download the firmware for the Redmi model. 6A (cactus) and the right region (Global/China).
- 🔌 Problems with USB-Try another cable (preferably original) and port. USB 2.0 on the back of the PC.
- 📱 If the smartphone was tied to the Mi Account and after reset requires entering a password, use the official unlock tool: restore access.
If you are sure that the problem is software, but the recovery is not successful, consult profile forums (for example, 4PDA or XDA), which often post informal firmware and patches to solve such errors.
