When your Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro suddenly goes into an endless reboot cycle, it can cause panic even in the experienced user: the screen goes out, the Mi logo appears, the device starts to boot, but after a few seconds the process repeats itself, a phenomenon known as “bootloop”, which can be caused by both a software failure and a serious hardware malfunction.
Owners of the popular Redmi Note 8 Pro often face this problem after a failed system update or installing incompatible applications. However, physical reasons such as battery wear or motherboard problems can not be excluded.
Understanding the nature of a crash is the first step to restoring a smartphone to health. In this article, we’ll take a look at algorithms for actions ranging from simple reboots to complex flashing procedures. It’s critical not to try to charge a device or connect it to a PC during an active reboot cycle unless you’re in Recovery mode.
Diagnostics of the causes of cyclic reboot
The first priority is to determine what causes a system failure, often because of a conflict between a newly installed application and MIUI system processes. If the phone has time to show the desktop before turning it off, remember what programs you have been running in recent days.
Hardware problems are different. For example, if the Redmi Note 8 Pro reboots when the camera is turned on or when heavy games are started, this may indicate an overheating of the processor or a malfunction of the memory module. It is also worth checking the state of the power button: if it sticks or falls into the case, the device will constantly receive a signal to turn off.
The state of the power grid should not be ignored. The worn-out battery may not produce the necessary current under load, which causes a sharp drop in voltage and emergency shutdown, in which case the phone can only turn on while charging, but immediately go out when the cable is turned off.
⚠️ Warning: If the device heats up strongly in the bottom of the case before rebooting, immediately stop trying to turn on.
For more accurate diagnosis, you can use Fastboot mode. If the phone enters this mode and does not reboot spontaneously, the problem is likely to be in the software. If a cyclical restart occurs even in Fastboot, the probability of hardware failure is up to 90%.
Basic reset and discharge methods
The simplest, but often effective, method is to perform what's called a "hard reboot," which allows you to reset static electricity and force you to complete the freeze-driven processes that block the operating system from running normally.
To perform this procedure, the Redmi Note 8 Pro requires you to press the volume button and the power button at the same time. Hold them for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out and the device vibrates. Then release the buttons and wait for the logo to appear.
If a normal reboot didn’t work, try clearing the Dalvik partition cache. This won’t delete your personal data, but it can fix bugs accumulated by the system.
☑️ Pre-reset check
Enter Recovery mode with a combination of the Volume Up + Power buttons. When you have a multi-language menu, select English. Next, follow the Wipe Data → Wipe Cache path. After cleaning, select Reboot.
Resolving software conflicts
A common reason Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is constantly restarting is system file corruption or update conflict. If the phone loads to the desktop but is not stable, try removing newly installed apps. Pay particular attention to programs that require superuser rights or modify the system interface.
If you can't get in, you'll need a full Hard Reset, which will bring the phone back to factory status by deleting all user data, so you should only use it as a last resort. Make sure you remember the Mi Account password before you start, otherwise you won't be able to activate the device.
To perform a reset via Recovery menu:
- 🔴 Enter Recovery (clamping Volume Up) + Nutrition).
- 🔴 Select a language (English).
- 🔴 Go to Wipe Data.
- 🔴 Select Wipe All Data and confirm the action.
Once the process is complete, which can take a few minutes, the phone will automatically restart. The first start after the reset will be lengthy, as the system will take time to initialize the components.
⚠️ WARNING: Wipe All Data permanently deletes photos, contacts and apps. Make sure you have an up-to-date backup in the Mi Cloud or on your computer.
If a complete reset didn't work, the problem could be damage to the system partition, in which case the only software solution is to flash the device using the computer.
Fastboot and Mi Flash Tool
When software bugs are critical, manual recovery through the Recovery menu becomes impossible. The Mi Flash Tool, which is designed to install factory firmware in Fastboot mode, comes to the rescue. This method is most effective for the Redmi Note 8 Pro, since it allows you to rewrite all system partitions clean.
To start, you will need to download the official firmware for your model (encoding usually starts with “ginkgo” for the global version or the “gang-to-grid” version "ginkgo_ru" for Russia) from miui.com. You also need to install drivers ADB Fastboot and the Mi Flash Tool on PC.
The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Unpack the firmware archive in the root of the C disk so that the path is short, for example. C:\ginkgo_global.
- Run the Mi Flash Tool on behalf of the administrator.
- Transfer the phone to Fastboot mode (clamping Volume down + Power before the hare appears in the headphones).
- Connect the device to the PC and press the button "Refresh" in the program.
