Why MIUI Update May Go Wrong and When to Remove It
Xiaomi's latest firmware promised new features, but instead your Redmi Note 12 started to slow down and Mi TV 4A stopped recognizing the remote? you're not alone. According to service centers, up to 15% of users experience bugs after automatic MIUI updates. The reasons range from incompatibility with hardware to bugs in the code of the firmware itself.
Reversed updates are not always a last resort. Sometimes it is enough to reset the cache or calibrate the battery. But if after the update you see a critical discharge in 2 hours, spontaneous reboots or no network, it is time to act. It is important to understand that the rollback procedure is different for smartphones (POCO X5, Mi 11) and TVs (Mi TV Q2, Redmi Smart TV X).
Before you start, answer two questions: is there a backup of data and are you ready for the possible loss of warranty (when unlocking the bootloader).
Method 1: Soft reset via Recovery (without data loss)
The safest way to get back up is to reset the cache via Recovery Mode. This won't remove the update completely, but will eliminate conflicts caused by corrupted temporary files. MIUI 12β14.
Instructions:
- β‘ Turn off the device. Smartphones: pinch the power. + Volume up for 10 seconds. For TV: press Menu + Volume Down on the case and hold for 15 seconds.
- π± In the Recovery menu, select Wipe & Reset. β Wipe Cache (navigation with volume buttons, choice - power button).
- π Confirm the action and wait until the completion (1-3 minutes).
- π Restart the device via Reboot β Reboot to System.
If you have problems after this procedure (for example, the camera is not focused or Wi-Fi is turned off), move on to the next method. For Mi TV, soft reset helps in 60% of cases - most often the conflicts with the applications, not the firmware itself, are to blame.

Method 2: Recoil via Fastboot (for smartphones with unlocked bootloader)
This method is suitable for the POCO F5, Redmi K60 and other models with unlocked bootloader. It allows you to "swipe" the previous version of MIUI through the PC, but requires preparation:
- Download the archive with the right firmware from the official Xiaomi website (choose the Fastboot version, not Recovery!).
- Unpack the archive in folder C:\MIUI\ (the way without Cyrillic!).
- Install ADB and Fastboot tools.
Follow the commands in the CMD (on behalf of the administrator):
fastboot devices
fastboot flashall
fastboot rebootThe critical detail is that if you see an anti-rollback error, you can't roll back -- Xiaomi has blocked the downgrade for your model, and you just have to wait for a new patch or contact the service.
What is an anti-rollback in Xiaomi?
β οΈ Note: On models with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (such as Xiaomi 13 Ultra), a rollback through Fastboot can lead to a loss IMEI. Before the procedure, save it via the command *#06#.
Method 3: Recoil for Mi TV and Redmi TV (via USB)
Xiaomi TVs are updated differently than smartphones. There is no Fastboot, but there is a Recovery Mode and the ability to flash the flash drive.
- π Firmware file in.zip format (download only from official source!).
- πΎ Empty. USB-flash-drive (FAT32, 32GB).
- π Turn off the TV before starting.
Step-by-step:
- Copy the firmware file (for example, mi_tv_q2_1234567890.zip) Don't unpack it!
- Put the flash drive in. USB-TV port (use port of the TV) USB 2.0 if any).
- On the remote, press Menu + Volume Up for 10 seconds until the Mi TV logo with the inscription Updating appears.
- Wait until it's finished (up to 15 minutes). The TV will reboot automatically.
If the process is 0% or 100% more than 20 minutes:
- β Pull out the flash drive and repeat the process.
- β Check that the firmware file is called correctly (without unnecessary characters).
- β Try another flash drive (some Mi models) TV non-read USB 3.0).
| Model TV set | Supported rollback method | Time of procedure | Risk of data loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4S | USB + Recovery | 8-12 minutes | Low (Settings only) |
| Redmi Smart TV X55 | USB (original USB drive required) | 10-15 minutes | Medium (annexes) |
| Mi TV Q1E | Only through the service center. | β | High-pitched |

If the sound is lost after the Mi TV rollback, check the Digital Output (SPDIF) settings in the Sound β Additional menu. Often updates knock this setting off.
Method 4: Use of MIUI bootloader (for power users)
The MIUI bootloader tool allows you to download any firmware versions, including those removed from the official website. This is true if you want to return the MIUI 13 to the POCO F4 GT after a failed update to MIUI 14.
Algorithm:
- Install MIUI bootloader on PC.
- Select a device model (e.g., redwood for POCO X3 Pro).
The advantage of this method is access to stable beta versions, which often perform better than final releases. For example, MIUI 14.0.4.0 for Xiaomi 12T contained a critical bug with a discharge that was fixed only in 14.0.6.0.
β οΈ Note: China-marked firmware may not support Google Services. These will require an additional GApps package and manual stitching through the Google Services. TWRP.
Method 5: Contact Xiaomi Service Center (guarantee case)
If all previous methods failed or you are afraid of damaging the device, the official service remains. Xiaomi rolls back the firmware free of charge in two cases:
- π Device for warranty (check or binding to the Mi Account).
- π The update contained a critical bug confirmed on Xiaomi forums (e.g., brick after the update). MIUI 14.0.3 on the Redmi Note 11).
What to bring with you:
- π± The device itself (charged at least 30).
- π Passport and warranty card.
- π Screenshots of errors (if any).
The average repair time is 3-7 days, and in 2026 Xiaomi opened 12 new service centers in Russia, so the queue was reduced.
π‘
If the service refuses to roll back firmware under warranty, demand a written waiver with a reason, often helping to achieve free repairs through a call in support of Xiaomi.
Frequent update rollback errors and how to avoid them
Even experienced users make mistakes that turn the device into a brick.-5 lapses and their solutions:
- Model and firmware mismatch. For example, trying to flash Redmi Note 10 Pro with Redmi Note 10 firmware (different encodings: sweet vs mojito). Solution: check the model's code name in Settings β About Phone β MIUI version.
- Interrupted firmware. If the lights go off by 90%, the device may not turn on. Solution: use a UPS or scroll from a charged laptop.
- The wrong flash drive format for Mi TV. FAT32 is mandatory - NTFS or exFAT can't be read. Solution: format the flash drive through SD Formatter.
- No backup. After a rollback, data can be sent to /data. Solution: use Mi Mover or Google Backup.
- Ignoring anti-rollback: Forced downgrade on locked models leads to hard brick. Solution: check the list of locked devices on XiaomiUI.
If youβve already encountered a brick (the device doesnβt turn on, flashes red, or doesnβt respond to charging), try emergency mode. EDL. You will need Qualcomm to do this. HS-USB QDLoader 9008 driver and Mi Flash Tool program. 4PDA model-themed.
