Obtaining superuser rights on a modern smartphone is a step that opens up access to deep system settings that are not available to the average owner. Owners of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 often look for a way to bypass the limitations of the operating system to remove system debris, modify the kernel or install specialized modules, a process that is not without risks, but with the right approach allows you to unlock the full potential of your device.
The way root rights are obtained today is very different from what they were used a few years ago, and if you used to use tools like KingRoot, now the industry standard is Magisk, which not only allows you to get full access, but also hides it from banking apps and anti-cheat games.
Before you start taking action, you need to be clear about the consequences, and any interference in the boot section has the potential to turn your smartphone into a brick, but if you're willing to follow the instructions and understand the processes, the firmware will be successful.
β οΈ Note: The root rights procedure voids the manufacturer's official warranty, and it irreversibly changes the state of the software part of the device.
Preparing a smartphone and computer for modification
The first and most important step is to prepare the workplace and the gadget itself, and you'll need a computer running Windows, macOS or Linux, and a computer that's working. USB-cable, preferably original or high-quality analogue with data transmission support. All available system updates must be installed on the smartphone to minimize the risk of version conflicts.
Then you can activate the hidden features of the Android operating system. Go to Settings β About phone and quickly click on the MIUI build number seven times. After you have become a developer, go to the Settings menu β Advanced Settings β Developer. You need to enable USB debugging here.
- π± Make sure the battery is at least 60% so that the device does not turn off at a critical moment.
- πΎ Make a full backup of all important data as the next step will result in complete deletion of files.
- π Link your Mi Account to your phone and make sure the Device Search feature is enabled".
In parallel with the phone setup, you need to install the ADB and Fastboot drivers on your computer. Without these components, your computer will not be able to communicate correctly with your phone in bootloader mode, and you will also need to download a firmware image that matches the version installed on your Redmi Note 10.
Unlocking the Bootloader bootloader
Xiaomi uses bootloader protection to block the launch of untested software. To establish the rights of a superuser, this protection must be officially removed through the Mi Unlock Tool utility. Ignoring this step will make further action impossible.
The application process for unblocking can take anywhere from a few hours to seven days, which is the time Xiaomiβs security system takes to verify your account, and once you receive an approval message, you can move on to active actions.
Run Mi Unlock on your computer, log in to your account and turn your phone into Fastboot mode, holding down Volume Down and Power at the same time. Connect the cable and press Unlock. The process will take a few minutes, after which the device will restart and clear all data.
β οΈ Note: Once the bootloader is unlocked, the device will be forced to restart and all user data will be deleted without recovery.
Importantly, once you unlock Bootloader, you'll see a warning on the boot screen that the device is unlocked, which is normal behavior that you can't remove software without re-locking, and some banking apps can respond to that status, but Magisk can hide the fact that you have rights.
Search and preparation of the image of firmware
The key to installing Magisk is the original boot.img file, which is contained in the Fastboot ROM archive for your particular model, and a version choice error can result in a cyclic reboot or broken communication modules.
You need to find and download the firmware for Redmi Note 10 (codename mojin). Pay attention to the region: if you have a Global version, then the firmware must be Global.
Where to find the exact version of the firmware?
Once you download a firmware archive (usually a large zip file), you need to unpack it on your computer, and you'll find a lot of files inside, but we're only interested in boot.img. This is the file we're going to modify. Sometimes you might have a payload.bin file in the archive, and you'll need an additional payload-dumper-go utility to extract the image.
- π Copy the file. boot.img in the memory of the phone for ease of processing.
- π₯ Download the latest version APK-Magisk file from the official GitHub repository.
- π Make sure the firmware version of Android matches the one currently installed on your smartphone.
Patching a boot image through Magisk
Now, we move on to directly modify the boot image: Install the previously downloaded Magisk Manager on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 10. Launch the app and give it the necessary permissions if they are requested.
In the main menu of the application, find the Install section. Click on the Select and Patch a File button. In the file manager that opens, find the previously copied boot.img file. The application will automatically apply the necessary patches to the kernel.
The patching process takes a few seconds, and when it's done, a new file will appear in the Download folder with a name like this. magisk_patched_[random_string].This file is a modified bootable file that contains embedded superuser rights.
π‘
Copy the patched file magisk_patched.img back to the computer in the toolbox ADB, to run it through the Fastboot.
Do not delete the original boot.img file until the system is fully functional, it may be needed to recover if something goes wrong, and keep the patched file in a safe place, as it will be uploaded to the phone.
Install ROOT via Fastboot mode
The final step is to record the modified image in the memory of the device. Put the smartphone in Fastboot mode, pressing the Volume Down and Power buttons until the logo with the hare or the Fastboot inscription appears. Connect the phone to the computer with a cable.
Open the command line or terminal on your computer in the folder where the file is located magisk_patched.img. Enter a command to check the connection:
fastboot devicesIf you see the serial number of the device, you're connected correctly. Now you need to run the firmware command. Please note that we only flash the boot partition, leaving the rest of the unuched partitions.

After successfully executing a command that will take a couple of seconds, enter the command to reboot:
fastboot rebootThe first download after firmware can last longer than usual, up to 5-10 minutes. Don't panic if the screen stays black for a long time or the logo hangs - the system performs application optimization and integrity check.
Checking the work and setting up the concealment
Once you download the system, look for the Magisk icon in the application menu, and if it appears and the number in the application is displayed in the "Version" bar, then the root rights have been successfully obtained. For final verification, you can download the Root Checker application from the Play Market.
But just getting a license is half the battle. Many applications, especially banking (Sberbank, Tinkoff) and Google Pay, won't work on a rooted device. To get around that, you need to activate Zygisk.
Go to Magisk settings (cog in the top right corner). Enable Zygisk and, if necessary, "Enforce DenyList." In the DenyList, you need to mark all banking apps and Google Play Services. After that, restart your phone.
| Parameter | Prior to obtaining rights | After obtaining rights |
|---|---|---|
| Access to the system | Restricted (User) | Full (Root) |
| Removal of system applications | Impossible. | Maybe. |
| Work of banking applications | Work. | Requires concealment settings |
| Xiaomi Guarantee | It's working. | Cancelled. |
| OTA Updates | Automatic. | Only manually. |
β οΈ Note: With Zygisk enabled and DenyList configured, banking apps may still require additional manipulation of the Shamiko module for complete concealment.
Now, your Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 has a lot of functionality, so you can install modules that change the interface, improve sound, or save battery, but remember that with great power comes a lot of responsibility for system stability.
