The main problem with rollbacks is the risk of bootloader lock or data loss, and we will discuss how to minimize these risks, which models support downgrade without consequences, and which will require unlocking through the Mi Unlock Tool. All instructions are relevant for devices based on Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek, Released after 2018.
β οΈ Critical warning: Firmware rollback on models with a locked bootloader (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro or Redmi Note 12 Pro)+) Check the lock status through the fastboot oem device-info command - if Device unlocked: false, first perform the official unlock.
1.Preparation for rollback: what to do before the beginning
The first step is to determine the current and target firmware versions. Use the Settings β About Phone β MIUI version or the adb shell getprop ro.miui.ui.version.name command for the exact build number. Write down this information β it will be needed to find the correct firmware file.
Next, check:
- π Battery charge at least 60 percent. If you roll back through Fastboot, your phone should not turn off.
- π Cable USB β Use the original from Xiaomi (cheap cables can interrupt data transfer).
- π» Windows PC 10/11 β Fastboot and Mi Flash Tool are required 64-bit-system.
- π Backup β copy photos, contacts, and files to the cloud or computer (rollback erases data!).

| ADB & Fastboot Tools | Android Developers | Managing the device through the command line |
| OrangeFox Recovery | Official website | Custom recovery for hand-held firmware |
β οΈ Note: If your device was purchased in China (C-suffix version in the model, for example Redmi) K50C), Firmware for global (Global) is not suitable. Use only files marked China or CN.
2. Method 1: Recoil through MIUI bootloader (without data loss)
This is the safest method, but it only works for devices with unlocked bootloader and support for Downgrade in MIUI bootloader.Suitable for Xiaomi 11T, Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 Pro and later.
Instructions:

What if MIUI bootloader doesnβt see the old firmware?
bootloader unlocked (check through fastboot oem device-info)
Download the official firmware file with the extension.zip
Battery charge > 50%
All off. VPN Proxies (can block the download)-->
3. Method 2: Firmware via Fastboot (universal method)
This method is suitable for all Xiaomi models, but requires an unlocked bootloader and erases all data on the device.
- π± The phone is not turned on or stuck on the logo MI.
- π MIUI bootloader does not support your model.
- π§ We need to return stock firmware after unsuccessful experiments with custom ROM.

π‘
Castom Recovery allows firmware to be stitched βin partsβ β for example, only the system partition (system.img) without losing data β but this requires knowledge of the firmware structure and can lead to unstable operation.
5. Frequent errors and their solutions
Even with the right instructions, there can be problems.
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |

| Device is locked | The bootloader is locked and the firmware requires unlocking. | Unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool (requires a Mi Account binding and wait 7 days). |
| The phone does not turn on after the firmware | Incompatible firmware or interrupted process. | Repeat the firmware through Fastboot with a complete clean (Clean all). |
| Invalid sparse file format | A firmware file or an incorrect version of the Mi Flash Tool is damaged. | Download the firmware again and use Mi Flash 2018 instead of the new version. |

If Google services are lost after the rollback (for example, on Chinese firmware), install them manually:
- Download Open GApps (select nano or pico).
- Sweat through TWRP after installing the firmware.
- Reboot and set up Google Account.
7 Xiaomi models that cannot be rolled back in standard ways
Some devices have hardware limitations that make rollback impossible without the risk of bricking.
