Why do you need to use Mi Band 5 and when do you need to?
The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 fitness bracelet is still one of the most popular wearables for years, thanks to its balance of price and functionality. However, over time, users face slowdowns, synchronization errors or the desire to install informal firmware with advanced features. The bracelet firmware can solve these problems, but it is important to understand that this is not a universal cure for all ills.
Xiaomiβs official updates usually come automatically through the Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit.) They fix bugs, add new dials, and optimize power consumption. But if your bracelet is stuck on the older version or you want to access hidden features (such as notifications from third-party apps or alternative dials), you may need manual firmware. On the other hand, informal firmware like Amazfit Mod or Notify & Fitness promises extended customization, but carries risks ranging from loss of warranty to full βbrickingβ of the device.
Before you start, answer two questions: 1. Is there a real problem that resets donβt solve? 2. Are you prepared for the potential loss of data and the risk of damaging the bracelet?
Preparation for firmware: what to do before the start
Mi Band 5 firmware is a neat process. The first thing to do is to save all the data from the bracelet. Although most firmware does not affect user settings, a failure during an update can lead to complete loss of information. Sync the data with the Mi Fitness app and take screenshots of important screens (such as sleep or workout statistics).
Next, check the current firmware version.
- Open the Mi Fitness app.
- Go to the bracelet profile (Device β Mi Band 5 β Settings β About the device).
- Remember or write down the firmware version (e.g. 1.0.3.54).
Also make sure you have:
- π Bracelet charge at least 50% (better than 100%).
- π± Smartphone on Android 6.0+ iOS 10+ The latest version of Mi Fitness.
- π₯οΈ Windows computer 7/10/11 or macOS (for alternative methods).
- π USB-Type A Cable (to connect the bracelet to a PC).

Official firmware through Mi Fitness: the safest way
If your goal is simply to upgrade to the latest official version, you should use the built-in functionality of the Mi Fitness app, which is minimally risky and does not require a PC connection.
Step 1: Open the Mi Fitness and connect to the bracelet. Make sure it's near the smartphone.
Step 2. Go to Profile β Mi Band 5 β About the device β Update firmware.
Step 3. If an update is available, click Update and wait until the process is complete. Don't turn off Bluetooth or close the app!
It takes 5 to 15 minutes. The bracelet will reboot several times, which is normal. After the update, check the firmware version and sync the data.
| Firmware version | Release date | Major changes |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0.3.54 | June 2023 | Correction of notification bugs, new dials |
| 1.0.2.38 | December 2022 | Optimizing energy consumption and supporting new languages |
| 1.0.1.22 | August 2021 | Monitoring added SpOβ, improved synchronization |
β οΈ Warning: If after the official update the bracelet stopped synchronizing, try resetting it to factory settings (Settings) β Resetting in an application. This often solves connection problems.

Official updates via Mi Fitness are the only method that does not deprive you of warranty and does not require technical skills.
Firmware via PC: when Mi Fitness does not help
If the bracelet is stuck on the logo, doesn't turn on, or the app doesn't see any updates, you may need to run it through a computer, which is more complex but effective in critical situations.
- π» Programme MiBand5Tools or Gadgetbridge (for the purpose of Windows/macOS/Linux).
- π Firmware file in.fw or.bin format (can be downloaded from the XDA Developers).
- π Cable to connect the bracelet to the PC (usually used charging cable with disconnected) USB-module).
Instructions for MiBand5Tools:
- Download and install the program from GitHub.
- Connect the bracelet to the PC: disconnect USB-module from the charging cable and connect the contacts of the bracelet to USB-port (see chart below).
- Run MiBand5Tools.exe and select Flash firmware.
- Specify the path to the firmware file and wait for completion (the bracelet will reboot).

Castom firmware: risks and opportunities
Unofficial firmware, such as Notify & Fitness for Mi Band or Amazfit Mod, offers features not available in the stock version:
- π± Notifications from any applications (not only) SMS/call-up).
- π¨ Alternative dials with support GIF-animation.
- π Advanced energy saving settings.
- π Option to disable Mi-account binding (for Chinese versions).
There are, however, downsides:
- β οΈ Loss of warranty (Xiaomi does not support custom firmware).
- π Risk of unstable operation (accidental reboots, synchronization bugs).
- π Possibility of βbrickingβ (if the firmware is incompatible with your bracelet version).
The most popular custom firmware is Notify & Fitness, which is installed via an Android app and does not require a PC connection.
- Download APK from the official website.
- Install the app and plug in the bracelet.
- In the Firmware section, select the version for Mi Band 5 and click Install.
- Confirm the installation and wait for the reboot.
Important: Once you install custom firmware, some of the Mi Fitness features may stop working. Use only the Notify & Fitness app to control the bracelet.

Before installing custom firmware, check the feedback on forums (such as XDA or 4PDA) about its stability for your bracelet model (CN/Global).
Frequent mistakes and how to fix them
Even with the right instruction, users often encounter problems, and here are the most common mistakes and solutions:
