The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, released in 2018, is still a popular device due to its balanced performance, but over time, the standard operating system may no longer meet user requirements or start to work unstable. Flashing through the computer is the most reliable way to return the gadget to factory speed, get rid of advertising integrations or even change the firmware region from Chinese to global.
Unlike the air update, which often freezes or gives out errors due to unstable Internet connection, the PC method gives you complete control over the process of recording data. You can not only update MIUI to the latest available version, but also perform a full reset, which is especially true when buying a used device or after unsuccessful experiments with superuser rights.
In this guide, we will discuss all the steps in detail: from preparing the necessary software to the final configuration of the system. We will pay special attention to working with the Xiaomi Flash Tool utility and Qualcomm drivers, since these are the stages where beginners often have difficulties. If you are willing to spend 20-30 minutes of your time, you can significantly extend the life of your gadget.
Workplace preparation and necessary tools
Before you start any manipulation of system files, you need to ensure stable connection and the presence of all components. You will need the Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphone itself, which is serviceable. USB-cable (preferably original, since cheap cables often do not withstand current during active data transfer) and a computer running the Windows operating system. On Mac or Linux, the process may be different and require additional environment settings, so this method is focused on Windows 10 or 11.
The critical step is to back up all data. The firmware process, especially in clean-up mode, will completely destroy information in internal memory, including contacts, photos and apps. Use Google Drive cloud services or the built-in Mi Cloud sync feature to save important files. Also make sure that the smartphone battery is at least 60% so that the device does not turn off at the most inopportune time.
โ ๏ธ Note: If your phone is blocked by Mi, remember your username and password. After flashing, the system will require authorization, and without this data, access to the device will not be possible.
To work, you will need the following software components:
- ๐ Archive with official firmware (format.tgz) for Fastboot.
- ๐ง Xiaomi Flash Tool of the latest version.
- ๐ Qualcomm drivers and ADB/Fastboot Windows.
- ๐ Correct. USB-Port 2.0 or 3.0 on the motherboard (not through the USB-hub).

Selecting and downloading the correct version of the firmware
Finding the right software is the foundation of a successful operation. There are many modifications to the Redmi Note 6 Pro (codename tulip), but we need a version to recover via Fastboot. These files usually have the.tgz extension, unlike Recovery firmware, which has the.zip extension and is designed to be installed through the phone's menu.
Download system images should only be from trusted sources, such as the official website miui.com or authorized mirrors like mirom.ezbox.mobi.When choosing a version, pay attention to the region: Global (Global) is suitable for most countries, Europe (European) has its own frequency features, and China (Chinese) contains a lot of local software and may not support some connections outside of China. For Redmi Note 6 Pro, versions based on Android 9 and 10 remain relevant, since official support for newer versions of Android for this model is terminated.
Once the archive is uploaded, it must be unpacked. Importantly, the path to the firmware folder must not contain Cyrillic characters or spaces, otherwise the firmware may not see the files: C:\Xiaomi\ProInside you should see a lot of files with extensions.mbn,.elf and script. flash_all.bat.
What is the difference between China ROM and Global ROM?
The structure of firmware files is as follows:
| File type | Appointment | Importance |
|---|---|---|
| Images (folder) | Contains system partitions (boot, system, recovery) | Critically. |
| flash_all.bat | Script for full firmware with data cleaning | Tall. |
| flash_all_except_data_storage.bat | Update the system without deleting user files | Medium |
| flash_all_lock.bat | Firmware with bootloader lock (Global ROM only) | Dangerous. |
Installation of drivers and setup of Xiaomi Flash Tool
The Redmi Note 6 Pro uses Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 drivers (for EDL mode) and standard ADB/Fastboot drivers. The easiest way to install the Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools package or drivers that come with the Mi PC Suite. Without the installed drivers, the Device Manager will show an unknown device, and communication with the phone will be impossible.
After installing the drivers, we run the Xiaomi Flash Tool. In the program interface, you press the Driver button in the upper right corner and make sure that all components are marked as installed. If this is not the case, the program will prompt them to install โ agree. Next, in the main window, click the "Select" button and indicate the path to the folder with the unpacked firmware, which we prepared in the previous step.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Never use the Clean all and lock option if you are flashing a device with an unlocked bootloader or changing the firmware region (e.g., China to Global). Blocking the bootloader on incompatible firmware will lead to complete inoperability of the phone.
At the bottom of the program window, select firmware mode. Clean all is the best option for a clean start, which deletes all data and cache. Save user data can leave old errors in the system, and Clear all and lock we won't use for security reasons. Make sure your smartphone appears on the device list (right) after you connect.
๐ก
Use it. USB-port located directly on the motherboard (back of the system unit), rather than on the front panel or through the USB-This minimizes the risk of communication breakdown during the recording of memory sectors.
Translation of the smartphone to Fastboot mode
Fastboot mode is a low-level interface that allows you to change the software of the device. To log in on the Redmi Note 6 Pro turned off, you need to press the Volume Down and Power button simultaneously, and hold them until you see an image of a hare repairing an android or the words FASTBOOT on the screen.
Once the Fastboot logo appears, connect your phone to your computer with a cable. Windows should make a distinctive sound of connecting new hardware. Device Manager in the "Android Devices" or "Ports (COM and LPT)" section should have a device called Android Bootloader Interface. If "Unknown Device" is displayed instead, then the drivers are installed incorrectly.
In Xiaomi Flash Tool, click "Refresh" button. Your device's serial number should appear on the list. If the number is displayed, you've got the connection, you can move to the final stage. If the phone is not identified, try another cable, another cable. USB-port or reinstall drivers by pre-deleting old ones.
Firmware process and possible errors
When you're done, press the Flash button in the bottom right corner of the program window. You start writing data that takes 300 to 600 seconds. The log will display commands and execution status. Don't turn off the cable or try to interrupt the process, even if it seems that the program is stuck.
There can be various errors in the process. For example, Flash error: Can't receive hello packet often indicates a bad cable or port. Not enough space (although this is rare for Fastboot) can indicate damage to memory parts. If the process has reached 99% and stalled, this often means that the phone is restarting, but the program has not yet received a signal of success, in which case it is better to wait a few minutes.
Once successfully completed, the log will be labeled Success, and the phone will automatically restart. The first boot after the firmware can last up to 5-10 minutes, as the system optimizes applications and creates new configuration files. The MI logo can appear on the screen, under which the boot indicator will run.
๐ก
Successful firmware ends with a Success message and automatic reboot. If the phone is stuck on startup the logo for more than 15 minutes, you may need to repeat the procedure with the Clean All option.
Primary setup and problem solving
Once you download, you'll see a welcome screen. Select a language, connect to Wi-Fi, and log in to your Google account. If you've previously made a backup, the system will prompt you to recover data. Please note that once you've done the firmware, all permissions for the apps will be reset, and you'll have to reconfigure access to the camera, microphone, and geolocation for each application.
Sometimes, after firmware, users are faced with a black screen or cyclic reboot (bootloop) problem, 90% of which is solved by a complete cleanup firmware (Clean All), and if the problem persists, the bootloader may be damaged or there is a hardware malfunction that is not related to the software.
To check the firmware version, go to Settings โ The phone, it should show the current version. MIUI and the level of the security patch, it is also recommended to check IMI-codes by dialing *#06# to make sure the base station sees the device correctly.
