Why Update Your Firmware to Redmi 9C and What It Means
Xiaomi Redmi 9C (codenamed angelica) was released in 2020, but is still used due to the balance of price and performance. However, over time, even budget devices begin to slow down, and here comes the help of firmware updates, not only fix bugs, but also add new features, optimize power consumption and close security vulnerabilities.
The latest stable version of MIUI for Redmi 9C is MIUI 14 based on Android 12 (for global firmware).

- When switching from MIUI 12 to MIUI 14, make sure to back up - some settings are reset.

Automatic updates via Wi-Fi are the only method that does not require unlocking the bootloader and does not reset user data.
Method 2: Install firmware through Recovery (if the automatic update doesnโt work)
If your phone doesn't find updates through the settings, but you're sure there's a new version for your model, you can manually install it through Recovery mode.

Frequent update errors and how to fix them
Even if you follow the instructions, Redmi 9C users are having trouble, and let's look at the most common ones.
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Can't verify update in Recovery | A damaged firmware file or incorrect name | Download the file, check the name (update.zip) and hash (MD5) |
| The phone is stuck on the MIUI logo. | Incompatible firmware or interrupted update | Log in to Recovery and select Wipe Data, then re-install |
| This package is for "angelica" devices | The firmware is not suitable for your model. | Download the firmware specifically for Redmi 9C (Angelica code) |
| Mistake 7 in Recovery | Android version mismatch (for example, trying to put Android 12 on Android 10) | First install the middle firmware (e.g. MIUI 13), then upgrade to MIUI 14. |
If none of the methods worked and the phone didn't turn on, the EFS (IMEI) section might have been damaged, and you'd need specialized software like QFil or EDL Tool, but that's a topic for a separate article.
