Xiaomi Mi TV P1 regularly receive firmware updates that improve performance, add new features and fix bugs. However, the upgrade process can raise questions β especially if you encounter it for the first time. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to update (automatic, via USB, forced reset), as well as how to avoid typical errors and what to do if the TV βhangsβ during installation.
It is important to understand that improper updates can cause device malfunctions, from minor interface glitches to complete failure. So before starting the procedure, check the current version of the software, prepare a backup of the settings and make sure the power is stable. If your Mi TV P1 is released before 2022, some instructions may differ, we will mention this too.
1. How to check the current firmware version on Xiaomi Mi TV P1
Before you upgrade your TV, you need to know which version of the firmware is installed now, which will help you understand whether your system is up to date and avoid re-installing the same version.
To check the software version:
- πΊ Turn on the TV and go to the main menu using the Home button on the remote.
- π§ Select the Settings section (cog icon).
- π Scroll down and open About TV or System Information.
- π Find the line version of the software or MIUI TV Version, for example, MPSTV.23.6.15.
If the version is older than 2023, it is recommended to update, and also pay attention to regional firmware: TVs for China (CN), Europe (EEA) and Russia (RU) may have different builds. You can install "foreign" firmware, but this can be fraught with problems with localization and operation of some functions.
Method 1: Automatic update via the Internet (recommended method)
The easiest and safest way to upgrade your Xiaomi Mi TV P1 is to upgrade your TV over the air (OTA), which requires stable Wi-Fi or wired internet connection, and is suitable for most users, as it does not require additional devices or technical skills.
Step-by-step:
- Connect the TV to the Internet (in Settings β Network, check the connection).
- Go to Settings β About TV β System Update.
- Click Check Updates. The TV will contact Xiaomi servers and find the latest firmware.
- If the update is available, click Download (~500-1500MB of free space is required).
- After downloading, select Install Now or Install Later (if you want to postpone the process).
- Wait for the reboot. The TV will automatically turn off and turn on 1-2 times - that's normal.
The entire process takes 10 to 30 minutes depending on the speed of the Internet. If the TV is stuck during the Install Update stage for longer than 40 minutes, do not pull the power cord - first try to reboot it with a button on the case (hold 10 seconds).
Check the Internet speed (minimum 5 Mbps)
Connect the TV to the network via cable (optional, for stability)
Close all running applications
Make sure that your TV has enough free memory (at least 1 GB)
Turn off sleep timers in power settings-->
3. Method 2: Update through USB-storage device (if) OTA doesn't work)
If automatic updates are not available (for example, due to slow internet or locking Xiaomi servers in your area), you can manually install firmware through a flash drive. This method is also useful if the TV is "obsessive" to the logo after a failed OTA.
You'll need:
- πΎ USB-storage device (formatted in FAT32, up to 32 GB).
- π₯οΈ Computer or laptop for downloading firmware.
- π Official firmware for Mi TV P1 (You can download it on the Xiaomi Support website or forums like 4PDA).
Instructions:
- Download the archive with firmware (the file will be.zip or.pkg).
- Copy the archive to the root of the flash drive (not to the folder!) and rename it to update.zip (if the name is different).
- Put the flash drive in. USB-TV port (preferably in the USB 2.0 if any).
- Go to Settings β About TV β System Update β Update via USB.
- Select the update.zip file and confirm the installation.
- Wait until the TV is finished (the TV will reboot several times).
β οΈ Note: If, after updating, through USB The TV does not turn on or shows an error. E0001, So the firmware was incompatible, and you'll need to roll back to the factory version through the service menu (instructions in Section 6).
| Problem is, USB-renewal | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The TV doesn't see the flash drive. | Incorrect format (incorrect) FAT32) damaged USB-port | Format the flash drive in FAT32, try another port |
| E1001 error during installation | A damaged firmware file or incompatible version | Download the firmware again, check the TV model |
| The process "hangs" by 0% | Not enough memory on the TV | Remove unnecessary apps or reset settings |
| After the update, there is no sound/image | Resetting audio/video settings | Log in to Settings β Sound / Screen and set up again |
Method 3: Forced updates via Recovery Mode (for power users)
If the Mi TV P1 doesnβt turn on or reboots after a failed update, it may be necessary to install firmware through Recovery mode, a more complex and neat method, but it often saves brick-and-brick devices.
What needs to be done:
- Download the full firmware (not OTA!) for your model from the official website or verified forums. The file name should contain fastboot or recovery.
- Unpack the archive and copy the files to the FAT32 formatted flash drive.
- Turn off the TV and insert the flash drive into USB-port.
- Press and hold the Power button on the TV body + Volume down button on the remote (or Menu if there are no volume buttons).
- Hold on for 10-15 seconds until the Recovery menu appears.
- With volume buttons, select Apply update from USB and confirm with OK button.
- Select a firmware file and wait until it is completed (donβt turn off the power!).
If the Recovery menu doesn't appear, your Mi TV P1 model may have a different login method, such as:
1. Turn off the TV.
2 Press and hold the Source button on the remote.
3. Turn on the TV with a button on the body.
4. Release Source in 5 seconds.β οΈ Warning: In Recovery mode, you can't interrupt the process - this can lead to a complete loss of the TV's performance. If the installation has been "hanging" for longer than an hour, check the flash drive (it may have turned off) or try another one. USB-port.
What happens if the Recovery Mode does not open?
5.Typical Update Errors and How to Fix Them
Even when following instructions, users often encounter problems, and let's look at some of the most common mistakes and how to fix them.
Error 1: The TV does not find updates through OTA
Possible causes:
- π Internet problems β check the connection, reboot the router.
- π Older version of the software β if the TV hasn't been updated in a long time, the server may not offer new versions. USB.
- π Regional restrictions β some updates are coming out first for China and then for other regions.
Error 2: No sound or image after update
Most often, this is due to resetting the audio/video settings.
- π Go to Settings β Sound and select a different mode (e.g. Stereo instead of Dolby).
- πΊ B Settings β The screen checks the resolution and frequency of the update (should be 1920Γ1080 @ 60 Hz for Mi TV P1 55").
Mistake 3: The TV hovers on Xiaomi logo after update
This is one of the most frustrating problems, but it can be solved:
- Turn off the TV with a button on the case, wait 30 seconds and turn it on again.
- If it doesn't work, do a hard reset: On the TV off, press the Volume button down on the remote. Turn on the TV with a button on the case. Keep Volume down 10-15 seconds until the reset menu appears. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset (all data will be deleted!).
- If the reset does not help, install the firmware through Recovery Mode (section 4).
π‘
If the TV is βslowing downβ after the update, try clearing the app cache: go to Settings β Apps β Clear the cache. Also, turn off animation in Settings β Special features β Reduce animation.
6. rollback to the previous version of the firmware (downgrade)
Sometimes, after updating, users will encounter new bugs or inconveniences (for example, a favorite feature is lost), in such cases, you can try to return to the old firmware, but Xiaomi does not officially support downgrade, so the process is fraught with risks.
How to perform rollback:
- Download the full firmware of the desired version (not OTA!) from forums like 4PDA.
- Copy the file to a flash drive (in FAT32 format) and rename it to update.zip.
- Press on the Menu + Volume up remote and turn on the TV with a button on the case.
- From the Recovery menu, select Apply update from USB and specify the file.
- After installation, run Wipe Cache (not Factory Reset!), otherwise you will lose your data.
Important: Downgrade can lead to:
- π Blocking certain features (e.g. Google Play Services will stop updating).
- π Loss of compatibility with new applications.
- π Inability to upgrade back through OTA (will require manual installation).
β οΈ Note: On some versions of the Mi TV P1 (for example, with a processor MT9652) Downgrade can block the bootloader, in which case the TV will have to "reanimate" through service software like the Mi Flash Tool (requires a PC and a cable). USB-A β USB-A).
7. How to save settings before updating
Updating the firmware does not always save user settings (brightness, sound, accounts, channel list) and you can back up your device to avoid reconfiguring everything.
Ways to save settings:
- π Manual export: Go to Settings β Accounts and security β Backup. Select Local Backup and save data to USB-accumulator.
Xiaomi
- Sign in to your Mi Account account on your TV.
- Enable synchronization in Settings β Accounts β Synchronization.
- After updating, log in to the same account - some of the settings will be restored automatically.
Photo of settings:
Note: Backup does not save installed apps and their data (such as logins in Netflix or progress in games) and requires separate backups through the apps themselves (if they support this feature).
