Owners often face a situation where the scooter stops responding to commands or shows errors on the display. In most cases, this is solved by simply flashing the controller. The BMS (Battery Management System) update process takes 10 to 20 minutes and requires a stable Bluetooth connection. It is important to understand that interrupting this process can lead to a battery lock.

Preparation for software updates
Before any firmware manipulations are initiated, make sure that the battery is at least 60 percent charged. If the charge falls below a critical level while the controller is recording data, the scooter may go into deep sleep mode or require complex diagnostics via UART.
Make sure your smartphone has geolocation and Bluetooth enabled.The Mi Home app requires access to GPS-coordinates for detecting devices by protocol BLE. Without geolocation enabled, the scooter search might just not start and you’ll see an endless wait for connectivity.

Update via the official Mi Home app
The most secure and recommended way is to use the regular software. the official Xiaomi Home app (formerly Mi Home) automatically checks for new versions when you connect to the device. If a new build appears on the server, you will see a red dot or pop-up with an offer to upgrade.
The process is this: once you connect to the scooter, the system analyzes the current version of firmware and compares it to the server version, and if the versions don't match, the packet starts loading, and at that time, the smartphone screen may go out — that's okay, but it's better to keep the device unlocked.

The app connects to the scooter via Bluetooth and reads detailed information about each battery cell, which allows you to identify “slit” elements that could cause a BMS error and lock charging.
