The firmware update for Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaner is not just a manufacturerβs recommendation, but a necessity for the device to work smoothly. New versions of the software fix navigation errors, add support for new maps, optimize battery consumption and even improve cleaning algorithms. 3.5.8_003024 Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro was corrected a critical error with a freeze on returning to base, and in 4.2.1_004120 Support for cleaning areas with different intensity.
But a wrong update can turn your assistant into a brick. It's especially risky to interrupt the process or install firmware from another model, even if the vacuum cleaners look the same. In this article, we'll look at all the official and alternative methods, including updating through the Mi Home app, manually via USB, and even recovering from a crash. And we'll also tell you how to check the current version of the software and what to do if the robot "blinks" after the update.
If your vacuum cleaner is released before 2019 (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Robot 1S or Viomi V2), some new firmware may not be supported, in which case you will have to search for specialized forums or contact a service center. Also note that for models under the Dreame brand (e.g. DreameBot D9), the update process may be different β they have their own Dreamehome app.

1. How to check the current firmware version
Before you update the software, you need to know which version is installed now, which will help you avoid re-installing the same firmware or downloading an incompatible file.
This can be done in two ways:
- π± Through the Mi Home app: Open the app and select your robot vacuum cleaner. go to Settings β About the device β Firmware version. Write down or take a picture of the number (e.g, 3.3.9_002145).
Through voice assistant:
Press the power button on the vacuum cleaner for 3 seconds and say, "Firmware version." The robot will voice the current version (not working on all models).
If the version is displayed as unknown or instead of numbers - characters, this is a sign of a software failure. In this case, first try to reset the settings (press the power and Home button for 10 seconds), and if it does not help - go to the section on recovery.
β οΈ Note: On some models (Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P, Viomi) V3) after updating to version 4.x.x Custom maps are dropped. Save screenshots of the maps in the app in advance!

2. Official Update via Mi Home app
This is the easiest and safest way to do this, but it only works if:
- π Robot Connected to Wi-Fi (not Mobile Internet!).
- π Battery charge over 50%.
- π± Mi Home app updated to latest version.
During the upgrade, the robot will flash blue and orange, which is normal. Don't turn it off the power or shut the app. If the process is 0% over 5 minutes, restart the vacuum cleaner (press the power button for 10 seconds) and try again.
| Model vacuum cleaner | Last stable version (June 2026) | Features of the update |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | 4.2.1_004120 | Requires at least 1 GB of free memory |
| Viomi V3 Max | 3.6.5_003310 | Update only via USB |
| DreameBot D9 | 5.1.0_005012 | Using the Dreamehome app |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot 1S | 3.3.9_002145 | Does not support versions higher than 3.5.x |

3. Manual update through USB-accumulator
If the automatic update doesnβt work (for example, due to regional restrictions or an outdated model), you can install the firmware manually.
- πΎ USB-format-storage FAT32 (32GB).
- π Firmware file with.pkg extension (not.zip!).
- π Battery charge of at least 80%.
