The weather widget on Xiaomi smartphones is one of the most popular MIUI tools, but sometimes it stops updating: it shows outdated data, hangs on the βdownloadβ or disappears from the screen. The reasons can be different from bugs in the shell of MIUI to problems with geolocation or weather servers. In this article, we will discuss all the working methods of forced weather updates on Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi phones (relevant to MIUI 12-14 and Android 11-14).
It's important to understand that the weather widget in MIUI is not a separate application, it's a system component integrated into Lawnchair (standard launcher) or MIUI Home. So standard methods like rebooting your phone or cleaning your cache often don't help. We've put together both basic solutions (reboot services) and advanced ones (manual change of data source), including fixes for cases when the weather is completely gone from the list of widgets after a firmware update.
1. Basic methods of weather updates
Start with the simplest of things -- they solve the problem 70 percent of the time -- and they don't require root rights or complex manipulation.
- π Drag the widget again: remove the current weather widget from the main screen (click on it). β "Delete"), then add it again from the widget menu. This will reset the time data.
- π Enable precise geolocation: Go to Settings β Confidentiality β Permits β Make sure that the weather is good (or MIUI System) access "Always".
- π Check your Internet connection: the widget only updates when you are on active mobile internet or Wi-Fi. VPN, temporarily disable it β some weather servers block requests from virtual networks.
- β‘ Reboot the phone: a banal, but effective way β a long press of the power button β "Reboot. After activation, wait 2-3 minutes: MIUI synchronizes data in the background.
If the weather is still not updated after these actions, move to a deeper settings. Note: on some models (for example, the POCO F5 or Redmi Note 12), the weather widget may conflict with energy-saving modes. Check if the Weather app is added to the list of limited options in Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization.
2. Forced synchronization via MIUI settings
MIUI caches weather data to save traffic and battery, but sometimes that cache gets stuck.
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- In the search box, type "Weather" (or "Weather" on firmware in English).
- Select the com.miui.weather2 app (or Weather on global versions).
- Click on "Storage" β "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data".
- Return to the home screen and wait for the widget to automatically update (it can take up to 5 minutes).
If after cleaning the cache, the widget shows an error "No weather data", follow the additional steps:
- π§ Go to Settings. β Additionally. β Region and make sure your real region is selected (not "Global" or "China").
- π‘ Enable "Location Auto" in weather settings (to do this, press the widget). β "Settings" β "Location").
π‘
On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 13 for Xiaomi 12T), after cleaning the weather data, the widget disappears from the list. To return it, switch to the standard launcher: Settings β Home Screen β Default Launcher β MIUI.
Manual update via hidden menu (for advanced)
MIUI has a hidden menu for debugging the weather service, which is available without root rights, but requires care:
- Open the phone application (call).
- Enter the code ##4636##
- In the menu that appears, select "Phone Information".
- Scroll down to the Weather Debugging block.
- Click on "Update Weather Data"
- Wait 10-15 seconds and return to the main screen.
This method works even when standard methods do not help, but keep in mind:
β οΈ Note: On some models (Redmi 10, POCO X3) After using this code, the automatic time synchronization may be lost. If this happens, go to Settings. β Additionally. β Date and time and include "Autodetermination".
If there is no hidden menu (for example, on Xiaomi 13 Ultra with MIUI 14), try an alternative way:
- π² Install Mi Weather from Google Play (even if itβs already installed).
- π Open it, wait for the data to load, then close. The widget on the home screen must update automatically.
4. Change of weather data source
Xiaomi uses AccuWeather or MeteoGroup servers by default, but in some regions they may be blocked or unstable.
- Press the weather widget on the home screen β select βSettingsβ.
- Go to Data Source (or Weather Provider).
- Choose an alternative service: π¦οΈ AccuWeather β accurate, but can slow down in Russia. βοΈ MeteoGroup β works stably, but is updated less often. πͺοΈ Yahoo Weather β available in all regions, but less detailed.
Save the changes and wait for the update (it can take up to 10 minutes).
If all sources are not working properly in your area, try using third-party widgets:
| Annex | Pluses | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1Weather | Prediction, beautiful animations | Advertising in the free version | Google Play |
| Yahoo Weather | Minimalist design, stable work | Less detail (for example, no UV index data) | Google Play |
| Overdrop | Customizable widgets, support for dark theme | Paid features (premium from $2.99) | Google Play |
When using third-party widgets, remember to turn off the standard MIUI widget to avoid conflicts. To do this, press it on the home screen β βDeleteβ.

5. Solving problems after the MIUI update
After major firmware updates (e.g., from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14), the weather widget often disappears or stops updating, due to a change in the structure of system files.
- Reset Launcher: Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management. Find MIUI Launcher (or Lawnchair). Press Storage β Clear Data. Reboot your phone. Widgets return to their original state.
Recovery through ADB
adb shell pm clear com.miui.weather2
adb shell pm enable com.miui.weather2After completing the commands, restart the device.
If the widget never appeared, check if it is disabled in the system settings:
- π Go to Settings. β Home screen.
- π± Select "Widget settings" β "Weather".
- π Make sure the "Show widget" slider is on.
β οΈ Note: On Xiaomi.EU firmware (castom) weather widgets may be missing due to remote system components, in which case the only way out is to install a third-party application or manual firmware of the missing one. APK through TWRP.

6.Geolocation problems and their solution
If the weather widget shows data for another city or does not determine the location at all, the problem lies in the geolocation settings.
- Check the permissions for the Weather app: Go to Settings β Privacy β Permits β Geodata. Find the Weather (or MIUI System) and set the resolution "Always".
- Enable high-precision location: Go to Settings β Location. Activate GPS Accuracy (or Improved Accuracy). Make sure Wi-Fi Scans and Bluetooth Scans are enabled.
- Update your AGPS data: Install the GPS Status & Toolbox app. Open it and click "A-GPS Management" β "Reset" β "Download."
If after these actions the widget still shows the wrong city:
- π Go to the weather widget settings (click the widget). β "Settings").
- π Manually enter your city in the search bar.
- π Click on "Save as the main location".
On some models (Xiaomi) 11T, Redmi K50) shift SIM-If you move to another region, the widget can stick to the old coordinates, in which case only a complete reset of geolocation settings will help:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find Google Play Services (or Google Play Services).
- Click on "Storage" β "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data".
- Restart your phone and wait for the Google account to be re-authorized.
7.If nothing helps: radical measures
In 5 to 10 percent of cases, the problem is at the file level, and here's what you can do if standard methods don't work.
- π§ Related: Retreat of the update MIUI: If the widget stopped working after the firmware update, try rolling back to the previous version via Settings. β The phone. β Updating the system β Three dots (menu) β Select the service pack. Download the old firmware from the official Xiaomi website.
- π¦ Installation of custom APK Weather widget: For some models (e.g, POCO F3) And you can see people creating modified versions of the widget, and you can find them on forums like this. XDA Developers or 4PDA. Please note that this requires an unlocked bootloader.
- βοΈ Reset to factory settings: Last resort if the widget doesn't work due to deep conflicts in the system. Before reset, back up the data via Settings β The phone. β Backup. Then go to Settings. β Additionally. β Resetting settings.
β οΈ Note: On phones with unlocked bootloader (Xiaomi 12 Pro, Redmi) K40) After reset, the weather widget may disappear due to remote system applications, in which case you will have to install it manually through the system. ADB or TWRP.
