Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5
All possible ways to install the Russian language
Mi Fit
The Mi Band 5 is that Russian language support depends on the firmware version and the regional binding of the device. If the bracelet is purchased from the official Xiaomi store for the Russian market, there are usually no problems, but when buying on AliExpress, in Chinese stores or dealers, there is a great chance of getting a device with Chinese firmware, where Russian is simply not provided.
In the article you will find:
- πΉ Step-by-step instructions for changing the language through the Mi Fit app (including hidden settings).
- πΉ Ways to update firmware to add support for Russian.
- πΉ Solutions to common errors: "No Russian on the list", "symbols are displayed by Krakozabra", "bracelet is not synchronized".
- πΉ Alternative methods for devices with blocked firmware.

1. Check the current version of firmware and language
Before you try to change the language, make sure that the problem is really in the settings, not the hardware limitations.
- Open the Mi Fit app on your smartphone.
- Go to the Profile section β Mi Smart Band 5 β About the device.
- Check the firmware version line. If it starts at 1.0.1.14 or lower, chances are you have Chinese firmware without Russian support.
Key point: in Chinese versions of the firmware, the bracelet menu can display characters even when connected to the Russian Mi Fit server. This is not a synchronization error, but a restriction of the firmware itself.
Also, look at the region of your Xiaomi account:
- π Russia/CIS β Russian language should be available by default.
- π¨π³ China: No Russian support needed to be updated.
- π Global (Europe/Asia) β Russian may be, but not always.
If the About section doesn't have a "Language" line, your firmware doesn't support changing language through the standard menu, in which case you go to the update section.

2. Change the language through the Mi Fit application (official method)
If the bracelet supports Russian but it is not activated, follow the following steps:
- Open the Mi Fit and connect to the bracelet.
- Go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 5 β Device settings.
- Find the language item. If it's not, see the next section.
- In the list, select Russian and confirm the choice.
- Wait for synchronization (the bracelet vibrates when you change successfully).
Important: After changing the language, you may need to reset the bracelet.
- In the bracelet menu, find the icon βοΈ Settings.
- Scroll through to Reboot (or Reboot).
- Confirm the action by pressing the screen.
βοΈ Preparation for language change
If the list of languages does not include Russian, but the firmware is global (not Chinese), try the following trick:
- In Mi Fit, go to Profile β Region.
- Change the region to Russia (if it is different).
- Restart the app and check the available languages again.
β οΈ Note: Changing the region in your Xiaomi account may result in the loss of some features if your bracelet is initially tied to another market (e.g. China.

3. Update of firmware to add Russian
If your bracelet does not have Russian at the firmware level, the only reliable way to update it to a global or European version is to:
Method 1: Mi Fit (automatically)
Sometimes it is enough to update the firmware through the official application:
- In Mi Fit, go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 5 β Firmware Update.
- If an update is available, install it.
- After reloading the bracelet, check for Russian.
Method 2: Manual installation of firmware through Mi Band Master
If automatic updates donβt help, use the third-party Mi Band Master app (available for Android):
- Download and install Mi Band Master from Google Play.
- Connect the bracelet to the app.
- Go to Settings β Update firmware.
- Select the latest global firmware version (e.g. 1.0.3.54 or later).
- Confirm the installation and wait until the completion (the bracelet will reboot several times).
Warning: Manual firmware updates may result in resetting all data on the bracelet (steps, alarm settings, etc.) and pre-synchronize data with Mi Fit.
| Firmware version | Support for Russian | Region | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0.0.48 and below | β No. | China | Mandatory renewal required |
| 1.0.1.14 - 1.0.2.36 | β οΈ Partially. | Global/Europe | Russian may not be on the menu |
| 1.0.3.54 and higher | β Yes. | All regions | Recommended version |
| 1.0.6.8 (special) | β Yes. | Russia/CIS | Optimized for Cyrillic |

4. Solving problems with displaying the Russian language
Even after a successful language change, users sometimes face problems:
Problem 1: Symbols are displayed by Krakozabras (β β‘β’)
This indicates that the fonts in the firmware are not properly encoded.
- π Update the firmware to the latest version (see Section 3).
- π± Reinstall the Mi Fit app (sometimes cache resetting helps).
- π§ Reset the bracelet to factory settings: Settings β Reset.
Problem 2: Russian is available, but part of the menu is in English
This is normal for hybrid firmware, with critical items (notifications, pedometers) in Russian and secondary ones (e.g. About) in English, which can only be corrected by completely flashing to the Russian version of the software.
Problem 3: After the upgrade, the bracelet does not sync
Possible causes and solutions:
- π΅ Bluetooth conflict: remove the bracelet from the list of conjugated devices of the phone and connect again.
- π Low Charge: Charge the bracelet to 100% and repeat synchronization.
- π Server problems: check the status of Xiaomi servers at status.mi.com.
π‘
If the bracelet is running out quickly after the firmware update, calibrate the battery: discharge it to 0%, then charge it to 100% without interruption.

5. Alternative methods for the "Chinese" versions of the bracelet
If your Mi Band 5 is iron-bound to the Chinese region (e.g., the XMSH08HM model), standard methods may not work.
Method 1: Use Notify & Fitness App
Notify & Fitness for Mi Band allows you to bypass some of the restrictions:
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Connect the bracelet and go to Settings β Language.
- Select Russian (Ru) and apply the settings.
Limitation: this method doesn't work on all firmware, and if the language doesn't change, you'll need a manual firmware.
Method 2: Firmware via Mi Band Tools (for power users)
For advanced users willing to risk the "brick" of the device:
- Download the Mi Band Tools utility and firmware for your model from the 4PDA forum.
- Connect the bracelet to your PC via a Bluetooth adapter (Windows is recommended).
- Follow the firmware instructions (usually you need to run flash.bat from the archive).
β οΈ Warning: The wrong firmware can turn the bracelet into a brick. If you're not sure what you're doing, go to the service center. CN (China) in serial number.
π‘
Before you run through third-party utilities, be sure to check the compatibility of the firmware file with your bracelet model. Firmware from Mi Band 4 or the global version on the Chinese bracelet will lead to breakage!

6 How to Avoid Problems with Buying a Mi Band 5
If you havenβt bought a bracelet yet, but are planning to, pay attention to the following points to avoid language problems:
- π Buy in official stores: Xiaomi Store, Svyaznoy, M. Video - there are sold devices with Russian firmware.
- π·οΈ Check the marking: there should be a sticker on the box with the inscription RU or Global Version.
- π Study seller reviews: on AliExpress, look for sellers with a rating above 98% and reviews in Russian.
- π Require a Warranty: Official dealers provide a 12-month warranty, making it easier to resolve problems.
If you are buying from hand or on the secondary market, ask the seller to:
- Take a picture of the bracelet menu (there must be Russian inscriptions).
- Show the firmware version in Mi Fit.
- Confirm that the device is not tied to a Chinese Xiaomi account.
Tip: The cost of the Chinese version of the Mi Band 5 may be 20-30% lower, but the risks of firmware and language problems outweigh the savings.
