AirDots 3
If they don't respond to the buttons?
In this article, we will discuss all the ways to turn on Xiaomi AirDots 3, consider the standard procedure, forced reset, and also solve typical problems. If you just bought headphones or they were lying idle for a long time, the instructions will help you quickly bring them back to life.
It's important to understand that AirDots 3 has multiple modes of operation: normal on, pairing and factory reset, and each activates differently, and we'll show you how to do it right.
1. Standard inclusion of Xiaomi AirDots 3
If AirDots 3 headphones have already been paired with your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), turning them on is reduced to just pressing a button.
Each earphone has a touch button (on the outside of the case) to turn on AirDots 3:
- Get both earphones out of the charger case.
- Press and hold the touch button on any of the headphones for 1-2 seconds until you hear a beep (a voice alert "Power on" or a short squeak).
- Wait 5-10 seconds β the headphones will automatically connect to the last conjugated device.
If the headphones donβt automatically connect, check:
- π± Bluetooth on your phone is enabled (go to Settings) β Bluetooth).
- π Headphone charge (the indicator on the case should be white or green β this means that the charge level is above 20%).
- π§ Headphones are at a distance of no more than 10 meters from the device.
π‘
If the headphones don't respond to pressing, try to clean the touch button of dust or moisture with a dry wipe. Often the problem lies in contamination of the contacts.
Note that if you take your headphones out of your case, they should turn on automatically (this is factory setup), and if that doesn't happen, you may need to reset or update your firmware.
2. How to enable the pairing mode (Pairing Mode)
If you connect Xiaomi AirDots 3 to a new device or after a reset, you need to put them in pairing mode.
Instructions for first connection or after resetting:
- Put both headphones back in the charging case.
- Close the case cover and wait 5 seconds.
- Open the lid and hold the touch button on both headphones simultaneously for 10-15 seconds until the indicators start flashing red and white (pairing mode).
- On your phone, open Settings β Bluetooth and select Mi True Wireless Earphones 3 (or similarly named) from the list of devices.
After successful connection, the headphones will remember the device and will connect to it automatically the next time you turn on.

If the headphones are not displayed in the list of devices:
- π Reboot the Bluetooth module on your phone (turn off/on Bluetooth).
- π΄ Make sure the headphones arenβt connected to another device (like a laptop or tablet).
- π Check the charge of the case - if it is discharged, the headphones will not be able to enter the pairing mode.

3.Forced reset of Xiaomi AirDots 3
If the AirDots 3 headphones don't turn on, respond to buttons, or connect to any device, you may need to completely reset to factory settings, which erases all stored connections and returns the headphones to their original state.
How to reset:
- Put both headphones in the charging case and close the lid.
- Connect the case to the power source (charging or Power Bank).
- Open the case cover and hold the touch buttons on both headphones simultaneously for 20-30 seconds.
- The indicators on the headphones will start flashing red, then go out and light up white - this is a signal of a successful reset.
After reset, the headphones will automatically go into pairing mode, and now they can be connected to the phone as new (see section 2).
What to do if the reset does not work?
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Headphones are not on | Battery discharged | Put it in the case for 30+ minutes. |
| Not responding to pushes | Sensor contamination | Clean the buttons with a dry napkin. |
| Not connecting to the phone. | Old conjugation retained | Make a reset (section 3) |
| One earpiece is down. | The problem of synchronization | Return both to the case, get out and wait 10 seconds |
β οΈ Warning: After reset, AirDots 3 headphones can update the firmware when first connected to a phone with a phone MIUI. Do not interrupt the process, otherwise there may be failures in the work.
Inclusion problems and solutions
Even after following the instructions correctly, Xiaomi AirDots 3 may not behave properly.
π΄ Headphones don't turn on at all
If there is no reaction after pressing the button (no sound, no lights):
- π Check the charge of the case and headphones. 15-20 minutes, then try again.
- π§Ή Clean contacts on headphones and inside the case (use a dry toothpick or cotton swab).
- π Try to turn on the headphones separately - perhaps the problem is in one of them.
π‘ One earpiece is down.
If only one headphone is turned on:
- Return both headphones to the case, close the lid for 10 seconds, then pull out.
- Hold the button on the idle headphone for 10 seconds - it should sync with the pair.
- If it doesnβt work, make a full reset (Section 3).
π΅ Headphones are on but not connected
If the lights are on, but the phone canβt see the device:
- π± Remove AirDots 3 from the list of conjugated devices in Bluetooth settings.
- π Reboot the phone.
- π§ Turn on the pairing mode again (section 2).
π‘
If the headphones are plugged in but the sound is interrupted or lagged, the problem may be in the Bluetooth codec. In the Android developer settings, select the SBC or AAC codec instead of aptX.
β οΈ Warning: If after all the manipulations, the headphones still do not work, check them on another device (for example, on a tablet or laptop). If the problem persists, a hardware defect is possible, and you should contact the service center.
5. How to check the charge and condition of the headphones
To avoid powering problems, it is important to keep an eye on the charge level of Xiaomi AirDots 3.
Methods of charge verification:
- π Case indicator: π’ Green/white - charge higher 50%. π‘ Yellow is charge. 20-50%. π΄ Red - charge below. 20%, recharging.
- π± Mi Home: Connect your headphones to your phone. Open the Mi Home app (download to Google Play or App Store). Go to Devices β Headphones β there will display the exact percentage of charge of each headphone and case.
Tips for extending the life of the battery:
- π Do not leave headphones in the case on charging for more than 24 hours - this reduces the battery life.
- π‘οΈ Avoid overheating (do not leave the case under direct sunlight or near heat sources).
- π Once 2-3 Fully discharge and charge the headphones (battery calibration).
π‘
If the case stopped charging the headphones, try to clean the contacts inside the holes with compressed air (a canister for cleaning equipment).
6. Update of the firmware Xiaomi AirDots 3
Sometimes the issues with inclusion or connection are related to outdated firmware. Xiaomi periodically releases updates to improve stability and add new features.
How to update firmware:
- Connect your headphones to your smartphone on MIUI (or with the Mi Home app installed).
- Open Mi Home and go to the headphone management section.
- If an update is available, a notification will appear. Click Update and wait for the process to be completed (the headphones should be in the case with the lid open).
Signs that an update is needed:
- π§ Headphones spontaneously turn off.
- π The sound is interrupted or distorted.
- π± Control gestures do not work (for example, double touch for pause).
β οΈ Warning: Don't interrupt the update process! If you turn off the headphones from the case or remove the case from the socket during firmware, they may stop turning on. In this case, only a reset (section 3) or contacting the service will help.
7. Alternative ways to control headphones
In addition to standard inclusion, Xiaomi AirDots 3 supports gestures and voice control, which makes it easier to use and reduces wear on touch buttons.
List of gestures supported:
- β―οΈ Double touch - playback / pause.
- π Triple touch β moving to the next track.
- π Holding 1 second β Acceptance/rejection of a call.
- π€ 2 seconds: Calling the Google Assistant or Siri).
How to set up gestures:
- Put the headphones on the phone.
- Open Mi Home β Select AirDots 3 β Management Settings
- Set the right actions for each gesture.
If the gestures don't work:
- π Reconnect the headphones to the phone.
- π± Update the Mi Home app to the latest version.
- π§ Make a reset of settings (section 3).
