Your Mi Band 7, Xiaomi Smart Band 8 or other smart bracelet model breaks your phone connection every now and then? The problem is familiar to many owners of Xiaomi gadgets - the device can shut down in minutes, hours or even immediately after you connect. In this article, we will analyze all possible causes, from banal to hidden, and give specific solutions for each of them.
Itβs important to understand that if the bracelet is turned off during active use (for example, during training or sleep), rather than in standby mode, this may indicate hardware malfunctions. Otherwise, software, settings or external interference are to blame. We collected data from official Xiaomi forums, user reviews and tests of 15+ models of bracelets β from Mi Band 3 to Xiaomi Watch S3.
Don't rush to drop the bracelet to factory settings or carry it to the service - in 90% of cases, you can solve the problem yourself in 5-10 minutes.
1. Bluetooth problems on the phone
The most common reason is an unstable Bluetooth module in a smartphone. Even if other devices (earphones, speakers) connect normally, the bracelet can βfall outβ due to the features of the BLE 5.0/5.2 protocol, which Xiaomi gadgets use.
What to do:
- π± Reboot your phone. It's banal, but 30 percent of the time it helps, it resets the temporary Bluetooth stack errors.
- π Turn off and turn on Bluetooth again in the settings. Sometimes the module will "hang" in the background.
- π« Remove all stored Bluetooth devices (except the bracelet) β conflicts between connected gadgets can cause communication breaks.
- π οΈ Update the firmware on the phone. MIUI (below 13) there were bugs with BLE, patched.
If you donβt have a Xiaomi smartphone (like a Samsung or iPhone), check your power saving settings β some manufacturers aggressively turn off BLE in the background. On Android, go to Settings β Applications β Mi Fitness β Battery β No restrictions.
2.Conflicts in the Mi Fitness / Zepp Life app
The official Mi Fitness (older models) and Zepp Life (newer ones) apps are often a source of problems, especially if:
- π² The app has not been updated for a long time;
- ποΈ Cash and app data are clogged;
- π Xiaomi has several bracelets tied in its account;
- π The region of the account does not coincide with the region of the bracelet (for example, bought in China, and the account is Russian).
Step-by-step instructions for cleaning the application:
- Open your phone settings β Apps β Zepp Life/Mi Fitness
- Click Warehouse β Clear the cache and Clear the data.
- Reboot the phone.
- Go back to the app and re-bind the bracelet.
Remove the application via Settings (not just from the desktop)|
Check the Android version (must be at least 8.0)|
Download the latest version of Zepp Life from the official website (not from APK) |
Shut down. VPN (It can block Xiaomi servers)-->
If the bracelet does not connect after cleaning the data, try to change the region of the account:
- Go to Zepp Life, tap on the avatar β Account settings.
- Select the Region and install China (even if the bracelet is global).
- Restart the app.
β οΈ Warning: If you change region, you will reset all the activity data in the app.
3. Incompatibility of bracelet and phone firmware
Xiaomi bracelets regularly receive firmware updates through Zepp Life. If the bracelet software version is newer than your phone (or vice versa), the connection will break, for example, the Mi Band 7 Pro requires Android 8.0+, and the Xiaomi Watch S3 requires Android 9.0+.
How to check and update the firmware:
- Open Zepp Life β go to the profile of the bracelet.
- Slip on three dots in the upper right corner β Firmware update.
- If the update is available, plug the bracelet into charging and wait until it is completed (donβt turn it off!).
| Model bracelet | Minimum version of Android | The latest version of the firmware (for 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Band 6 | Android 6.0 | 1.0.6.84 |
| Mi Band 7 | Android 7.0 | 1.10.5.0 |
| Xiaomi Smart Band 8 | Android 8.0 | 1.15.2.3 |
| Xiaomi Watch S2 | Android 9.0 | 2.1.14 |
If the firmware update has hung or the bracelet has stopped turning on after it, perform a forced reset:
- Unplug your bracelet from your phone in Zepp Life.
- On the bracelet, go to Settings β About Phone β Reset (for Mi Band 7/8 β press the touch button for 10 seconds).
- Connect it again through the app.
What to do if the bracelet is not updated?
4. Hardware malfunctions of the bracelet
If all software methods have been tried and the bracelet is still disabled, the problem may be physical damage:
- π Worn-out battery β when charged low (below 10%), the bracelet loses communication to save energy.
- π‘ Bluetooth module damaged β often after falls or moisture.
- π Oxidized contacts on the board (if the bracelet has been in water or sweats under the strap).
How to diagnose:
- Check if the bracelet is heated during operation (overheating indicates battery problems).
- Connect the bracelet to another phone β if the problem recurs, the gadget is to blame.
- Look at the charging indicator: if it flashes red when connected to a USB, itβs a sign of a battery failure.
β οΈ Note: If the Xiaomi bracelet was purchased less than a year ago, do not disassemble it yourself - this will deprive you of the warranty.
For the Mi Band 5/6/7 models, there is a typical malfunction: the display plume departs, which causes the bracelet to reset and lose communication.
- The screen flickers or goes out when the hand moves.
- The bracelet spontaneously reloads.
- The touch button works every time.
π‘
Before contacting the service, check the bracelet for compatibility with the phone. For example, the Mi Band 8 does not support iPhone 6s and older due to outdated Bluetooth 4.2.
5. External interference and use features
Even a good bracelet can be turned off due to external factors:
- πΆ Strong radio interference from other devices (Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, wireless headphones).
- ποΈ Physical obstacles β if the phone is in the bag and the hand with the bracelet is far away (for example, while running).
- 𧲠Magnetic fields (e.g., near speakers or electric motors).
- π₯Ά Extreme temperatures - lower -10Β°C or higher +45Β°C.
How to minimize interference:
- Wear a phone and bracelet on one side of your body (for example, both on your left hand).
- Disable other Bluetooth devices if they are not in use.
- Avoid wearing the bracelet under tight clothing (for example, under a jacket with metal zippers).
If the bracelet only turns off during exercise, the reason may be active energy saving. In Zepp Life, go to the bracelet settings and turn off the option Saving charge during sleep/workout.
6. Resetting settings and extreme measures
If none of these methods work, you'll have to completely reset your bracelet and your phone.
- On the bracelet: Settings β About phone β Reset (for Mi Band 8 β press the button 15 seconds before vibration).
- In the Zepp Life app: Remove the bracelet from the list of devices.
- Reboot the phone.
- Reconnect the bracelet as you did when you first used it.
If the reset didnβt help, try alternative connection methods:
- π Use Notify & Fitness for Mi Band (available on Google Play) β it sometimes works more stable than the official app.
- π± Connect the bracelet to another phone (preferably Xiaomi) for 1-2 days β if the problem disappears, itβs your smartphoneβs fault.
β οΈ Note: After resetting, all data on the bracelet (steps, pulse, settings) will be deleted. If you have a Mi Band 7 Pro or newer, pre-export the data to Google Fit.
π‘
Before resetting, check if the shutdown is related to a specific action (for example, when alerts are turned on or during pulse measurements), which will help to more accurately diagnose the problem.
7. When is it time to bring it to the service?
You should contact Xiaomi Service Center if:
- π The bracelet does not hold a charge (discharges in 2-3 hours) and turns off when the battery level is low.
- π‘ The connection breaks even after reset and on different phones.
- π§ Artifacts (strips, flickering) appeared on the screen or the sensor stopped responding.
- π₯ The bracelet overheats or smells of a burn.
The cost of repairs in official Xiaomi services (for 2026):
| Type of repair | Cost (β½) | Date(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Battery replacement | 1 200β1 800 | 1β2 |
| Repair of Bluetooth module | 1 500β2 500 | 3β5 |
| Replacement of display | 2 000β3 500 | 2β3 |
| Cleaning for moisture/oxidation | 800β1 500 | 1 |
Before the service visit:
- Back up your data via Zepp Life (if the bracelet is still on).
- Bring a check or a warranty card (if the warranty period has not expired).
- Check by phone if they are repairing your model β some services donβt work with the Mi Band 8 Pro or Xiaomi Watch S3.
