First acquaintance with Mi Band 4: what is in the box and how not to spoil the bracelet when unpacking
The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 fitness bracelet remains one of the most popular activity tracking gadgets even years after its release, and its simplicity, reliability and rich functionality appeal to both beginners and experienced users. However, the first launch often raises questions: how to properly remove the bracelet from the package, what to do with the charger, and how to avoid typical errors when turned on?
In the Mi Band 4 box, you'll find the bracelet itself in a protective film, the sensor capsule (removable module), the strap (usually black or colored, depending on the configuration), the magnetic contact charger and a brief instruction in several languages. Important: don't try to force the capsule from the strap - it is fixed by a special mechanism that can be damaged. Also check the integrity of the sealing ring on the back of the module: it protects from moisture and dust.
Before you start setting up, make sure you have: Android 5.0 smartphone+ or iOS 10.0+, Mi Fit (or Zepp Life for newer versions) and original USB-The bracelet supports Bluetooth 5.0, but for stable synchronization, it is better to use devices no older than 5 years.
Step 1: Charging the bracelet before first switching on
Even if the Mi Band 4 has a residual charge from the factory, the first charge is mandatory. This is because the bracelet could have been in storage for a long time and its battery was discharged to a critical level. Use only the original charger - third-party adapters can damage the contacts or cause overheating.
How to charge correctly:
- Remove the capsule from the strap by pulling it sideways (not up!).
- Attach the module to the charger β the magnets must securely fix it.
- Connect. USB-cable to power supply (computer, phone charger or power bank).
The charging indicator will turn red, which means that the process has started. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge, after which the indicator will go out.
β οΈ Note: Do not use chargers with higher voltage 5V/1A. Overloading can cause the battery to bloat and the bracelet to fail. Also avoid charging at lower temperatures. 0Β°C or higher 40Β°C.
After charging, donβt be in a hurry to turn off the bracelet β let it stand on charging for another 10-15 minutes, which will help stabilize the battery level and avoid sudden shutdowns in the first days of use.
Step 2: Installation of the application and registration of the account
Without the official Mi Fit or Zepp Life app, the Mi Band 4 will only work like a pedometer clock, and to unlock all the functionality (notifications, sleep monitoring, heart rate, etc.), you need to:
- π± Download Mi Fit from Google Play or App Store.
- π Register a Xiaomi account (or log in through an existing one).
- π Updating the application to the latest version will eliminate synchronization errors.
When registering for an account, provide a real email address, which will be needed to restore access if you forget your password, and we also recommend that you enable two-factor authentication in your profile settings.
β οΈ Note: If you use Mi Band 4 in China, the app may request a Chinese phone number binding.
Once you log in, the app will suggest adding a new device. Select Bracelet β Mi Smart Band 4 and follow the instructions on the screen. At this point, the bracelet should be on and next to the smartphone.
βοΈ Preparation for synchronization
Step 3: First Enable and Sync with Your Phone
To turn on the Mi Band 4, press and hold the touch button (the area under the screen) for 3-5 seconds until the Mi logo appears. If the bracelet does not respond, check the charge level or try rebooting it by plugging it into a 10 second charge.
After the screen is turned on, it will appear QR-- a code or connection request. In the Mi Fit app, select:
- Add the device β Mi Smart Band 4.
- Allow Bluetooth access, notifications and geolocation (the latter is for accurate jogging tracking).
- Scan it. QR-code from the bracelet screen or confirm manual connection.
If the synchronization fails:
- π Reset the bracelet (hold the button for 10 seconds).
- π± Reinstall the Mi Fit app.
- π Try connecting from another phone to rule out Bluetooth problem.
What to do if the bracelet is not determined?
Step 4: Basic setting: time, notifications and user profile
Once synchronized successfully, the app will suggest setting up the basic parameters, and at this point it is important to specify the exact data, as they affect the accuracy of the measurements:
| Parameter | Recommendations |
|---|---|
| Paul | Specify the real gender - it affects the calculation of calories and sleep rates. |
| Date of birth | Age is used to calculate maximum heart rate and activity goals. |
| Height and weight | Enter current data β this is critical for accurate calculation of steps and distance. |
| Target by step | Start with 8,000 steps/day, then adjust to your health. |
Next, set up notifications:
- π© Turn on call alerts, SMS and messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.).
- β° Set alarm clocks (bracelet vibrates without making a sound).
- π Turn off unnecessary notifications (such as from games) to avoid wasting charge.
In the Display and Brightness section, select:
- π Automatic brightness control (saves battery life).
- β± Screen time (5-10 seconds) is sufficient).
- π¨ Color scheme of the dial (in Mi Band 4 available 5 built-in themes).
π‘
If notifications don't come, check the power saving settings on your phone. On Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung, you need to manually add Mi Fit to the background work exception list.
Step 5: Update the firmware and install additional features
After the first setup, it is recommended to update the firmware of the bracelet, this will fix bugs, add new features and improve stability.
- Open Mi Fit and go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 4 β Software Update.
- If a new version is available, click Update.
- Wait until the process is complete (the bracelet will reboot automatically).
What the update does:
- π©Ί Improved algorithm for measuring pulse and SpO2 (oxygenation).
- πββοΈ New training regimes (swimming, cycling, treadmill).
- π Optimizing battery consumption (up to 20 days of battery life).
β οΈ Warning: Do not interrupt the firmware update or remove the bracelet from your hand during the process. If the battery runs out, the Mi Band 4 may stop turning on and you will need to reset via the charger (hold the 30 seconds button).
After the update, check the available features in the bracelet menu (scroll the screen up/down swipes).
- π Phone search β bracelet vibrates if phone is lost.
- π« Do not disturb β disables notifications for a given time.
- π Sleep mode β automatically activated at night.
π‘
Updating the firmware is a must for stable operation, and without it, some functions (such as SpO2 monitoring) may not be available.
Step 6: Advanced Settings and Problem Solving
If the bracelet is not working properly, try the following:
| Problem. | Decision |
|---|---|
| Inaccurate step counting | Check the strap density and update the firmware. You can also calibrate the pedometer in Mi Fit β Settings β Accuracy of steps. |
| The battery goes down fast. | Turn off the constant screen lighting and reduce the frequency of data synchronization to 1 time per hour. |
| No pulse measurement. | Make sure the bracelet fits tightly to the wrist (1-2 fingers above the bone) and avoid measurements while moving. |
| The bracelet doesn't vibrate. | Check the notification settings in Mi Fit and restart the device. |
To reset the bracelet to factory settings:
- Connect the Mi Band 4 to the charger.
- Hold the touch button for 20 to 30 seconds until you feel the vibration and see the Mi logo.
- Release the button and the bracelet will reset.
After reset, you will have to sync it with the phone again.
If the bracelet is not switched on after resetting:
- π Connect it to charging for 1-2 hours.
- π Try another charger (possibly a cable problem).
- π Contact Xiaomi Support if the charging indicator is not on.
