First introduction to Xiaomi Smart Band 8
Xiaomi Smart Band 8 is not just a fitness bracelet, but a full-fledged assistant for monitoring health, sports and everyday tasks. However, even such a simple device can raise questions for a beginner: how to turn it on correctly, what to do if the screen does not respond, and how to avoid typical errors when you first start.
Many users mistakenly think that the wristband is switched on with a button, but the Smart Band 8 simply does not have one. Instead, it uses a touch screen and gestures. If you are holding a Xiaomi device for the first time, it is important to understand that it does not require complex manipulations, but there are several key points that will ensure the correct operation from day one.
Before you go to the instructions, make sure you have:
β Charged bracelet (minimum 20% battery)
β Compatible smartphone (Android 6.0)+ or iOS 12.0+)
β Installed Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit)
β Charging cable (comprised)
Step 1: Charging the bracelet before first switching on
Xiaomi Smart Band 8 comes with a minimum battery charge, which is only enough for the initial activation. To avoid problems, be sure to charge the device before first use.
- π Connect the magnetic charging cable to the bracelet. The connector should magnetize to the back panel -- you hear a click.
- π± Connect the other end of the cable to the power adapter (5V/1A) or USB-port.
- β‘ The charge indicator (battery icon) will appear on the bracelet screen. If the screen does not light up, check the density of the cable.
The full charge time is about 1.5-2 hours. The first turn on is 20-30 minutes. Note: if the bracelet is discharged to zero, it may take 5-10 minutes before the indicator appears on the screen.

If the bracelet is not charging, try to clean the contacts on the back with a dry cotton swab.Dust or fat may interfere with the connection.
β οΈ Note: Do not use chargers with higher voltage 5V (This can damage the Smart Band 8 battery.
Step 2: Physically activate the bracelet
Unlike smartphones, the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 doesnβt have a power button. It turns on automatically when you plug in a charger or tap on the touch screen.
- Make sure the bracelet is charged (at least 5-10%).
- Press the screen and hold for 3-5 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- If the screen does not respond, connect the bracelet to charging - it will turn on automatically.
Once turned on, you will see a welcome screen asking you to connect to the Mi Fitness app. If the bracelet doesn't turn on despite charging, check:
- π Contact state (possibly oxidation).
- π Correction of the cable (try another one) USB-port).
- π± Smartphone compatibility (update Mi Fitness to the latest version).
