Xiaomi scooters are some of the most popular vehicles in the city, but many owners are faced with the problem of how to turn on the flashlight correctly, especially if it suddenly stopped working or behaves unstable. Unlike smartphones, where the flashlight is activated at a single click, on scooters, the algorithm depends on the model, the version of the firmware and even how to connect to the mobile application.
In this article, we will discuss all possible methods for turning on the front (and rear) light on Xiaomi M365, Pro 2, 4 Pro, Essential and others β from standard holding the power button to resetting through Mi Home.
Important: Some models (such as the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 3 Lite) have automatic headlights on when driving in the dark β this feature can be adjusted or turned off. If your scooter is not equipped with a physical flashlight button, do not be upset: most likely, control is implemented through software.
1. Standard method: flashlight button
Most Xiaomi scooters come with a physical headlight control button, which is usually paired with a power button or located separately on the steering wheel.
- π On models M365, Pro and Pro 2: Hold the power button 2-3 The flashlight will turn on/off, and the single press is responsible for launching the scooter.
- π On Xiaomi 4 Pro and Essential: the headlight button is removed separately (usually left under the steering wheel). Press it once to turn it on, press it again - turn it off.
- π‘ On Xiaomi Scooter 3/3 Lite: the headlamp is automatically turned on when driving if the "Autolighting" mode is activated in the settings".
If the button does not respond, check:
- β‘ Battery charge (at a level below 10% the lamp may not work).
- π Connecting contacts (sometimes oxidation or moisture blocks the signal).
- π± Firmware compatibility (on some custom versions of the software, the button is reassigned).

If the flashlight flashes or burns dimly, try resetting the scooter to the factory via the Mi Home app. This often solves electronics problems.
2. Manage flashlight through the Mi Home app
The Mi Home mobile app (or Xiaomi Home for newer versions) allows you to control the headlight remotely, as well as adjust its behavior.
- Open Mi Home and connect to the scooter (it should be on and be nearby).
- Go to the Device β Scooter settings β Lighting.
- Activate the slider "Enable flashlight" or select the mode: π "Automatic β the headlight lights up in low light. π¦ "Always on β Constant operation (discharges the battery faster). π« "Switched offβ β the flashlight is inactive.
If the app does not have a Lighting option, upgrade the Mi Home to the latest version or check the compatibility of the scooter model. For example, on the Xiaomi M365 first releases (2017-2018), this feature may not be available.
Connect the scooter to Wi-Fi | Update the Mi Home|App to Check the battery charge (>20%) |Be within a radius of 5 meters from the device
-->
An important caveat: after updating the scooter firmware, the flashlight settings may reset. Always check them after the update!
3.Why the flashlight does not turn on: common reasons
If neither the button nor the app helps turn on the flashlight, the problem may be one of the following:
| Reason. | How to check | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Battery discharged | Charge level <20 per cent | Charge the scooter to a minimum of 30% |
| Oxidation of contacts | Visual inspection of headlamp connectors | Clean the contacts with alcohol or replace the wires |
| Firmware failure | The flashlight flashes or burns half-heartedly | Update the software via Mi Home or reset the settings |
| Damage. LED-component | Farah's not on fire at all, but the button clicks. | Replacement of lamps in the service center |
On scooters Xiaomi 4 Pro and newer flashlight can be blocked when activated mode "Eco" - in this case, switch to the mode "Sport" or "Standard".
4.Resetting the scooter settings to restore the flashlight
If the flashlight stopped working after a firmware update or failure, hard reset will help, which will return all parameters to factory settings, including lighting settings.
Instructions:
- Turn off the scooter (hold the power button for 5 seconds).
- Press the power button and the headlight button (if it is separate) at the same time.
- Hold for 10-15 seconds until the battery light flashes.
- Release the buttons and the scooter will reboot.
After discharge:
- π Connect the scooter to the Mi Home again.
- π± Update the firmware to the latest version.
- βοΈ Set up the flashlight through the app (see Section 2).
What if the reset didn't help?
β οΈ Warning: Resetting removes all user data, including travel history and accelerometer calibration. After the procedure, brake and suspension resets may be required.
5. Alternative ways of switching on the flashlight
If standard methods donβt work, try these options:
- π± Voice assistant: On some models, you can turn on the flashlight through Alice or Google Assistant if the scooter is connected to the Mi Home smart home. Say, OK, Google, turn on the flashlight on the scooter".
- π§ Manual connection: if the headlight is controlled by a separate wire (for example, on tuned scooters), check its connection to the controller.
- π A workaround: on Xiaomi M365 The first versions of the flashlight are sometimes switched on by double pressing the power button (interval of 0.5 seconds).
For models with RGB-backlit (for example, Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Ultra), headlight control can be integrated into the backlight settings.
- Open Mi Home β Illumination.
- Select the "White Light" mode (this is the headlight).
- Adjust the brightness with a slider.
6. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Many users make the same mistakes when trying to turn on a flashlight.
- π Ignoring charge level: With a battery below 15%, the scooter can block energy-intensive functions, including headlights.
- π² Outdated firmware: on versions older than 1.5.4 (for M365) The flashlight may not work properly.Refresh via Mi Home!
- π§ Moisture in connectors: after raining or washing the scooter, the headlight contacts may oxidize. Dry the device 24 hours before use.
- π§ Homemade tuning: if you installed non-original headlights or controllers, they can conflict with native electronics.
β οΈ Attention: do not use a scooter with a broken flashlight in the dark - this violates traffic rules in most countries and increases the risk of an accident. In Russia, a fine of up to 500 rubles is provided for this (Article 12.29 of the Administrative Code).
π‘
If the flashlight stopped working after the scooter fell, do not try to disassemble it yourself - there is a high risk of damaging the controller board.
