The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 fitness bracelet remains one of the most popular trackers due to its combination of functionality, sensor accuracy and affordable price. However, even such a simple device can raise questions for a beginner: how its first turn on differs from the replay, what to do if the bracelet does not respond to charging, and why the Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit) does not see the gadget. In this article, we will analyze all the steps from unpacking to synchronizing with the phone, taking into account typical user errors.
It's important to understand that the Mi Band 6 doesn't have a physical power button: it activates automatically when you plug into the charger or after a long press on the touch area of the screen. But there are nuances: for example, if the battery is completely discharged, it can take up to 10 minutes before the bracelet gives the first signs of life, and we'll tell you how to avoid common problems and what to do if something goes wrong.
Preparing for the first turn on: what to do before activation
Before you turn on the Xiaomi Mi Band 6, make sure you have everything you need. Only a charging cable (no power supply!) and a brief instruction are included with the bracelet.
- π± Smartphone on Android 6.0+ or iOS 10.0+ with Mi Fitness installed (you can download it from Google Play or App Store).
- π power supply: USB-port of the computer, charger from the phone (5V/1A or 5V/2A) power bank.
- β³ Time: The first setup and turn on will take 15-30 minutes (including charging and synchronization).
- π If the bracelet is purchased in China, it may be necessary IMEI (It is in the box to link to your Xiaomi account.
Pay special attention to the charging cable. The Mi Band 6 uses a proprietary connector (not USB-C!), so if you lose the original cable, you have to buy a new one - universal charging will not work. Also check if the bracelet contacts have protective film (sometimes they forget to remove it in the factory).

If the bracelet does not respond to charging, try to clean the contacts on the back of the device with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
Step 1: Charging the bracelet before first switching on
Xiaomi Mi Band 6 comes with a minimum battery charge (about 10-20%), which is enough only for the initial activation. To avoid problems, it is recommended to fully charge the device before use.
- Remove the bracelet capsule from the strap by pressing the button on the back side.
- Connect the capsule to the charging cable so that the contacts match (the cable has magnets for fixation).
- Connect the cable to the power supply. The battery icon with the charging animation should appear on the bracelet screen.
The full charge time is about 2 hours. If the indicator does not appear:
- π Check the density of the contacts (sometimes it helps to lightly press the capsule).
- π Try another one. USB-port.
- β‘ Make sure that the power source is at least 5V/0.5A (Weak ports on some PCs may be missing).

If the bracelet shows no signs of charging for more than 10 minutes, it may indicate a factory defect or a deep battery discharge, in which case leave it on charge for 1-2 hours - sometimes the power controller does not "wake up" immediately.
Step 2: Enable the bracelet and basic setting
After charging, you can start to turn on. The Mi Band 6 does not have a power button - it activates automatically when you connect to a charger or after a long touch of the screen.
- If the bracelet has been charged, turn it off.The screen should show a welcome message in Chinese/English (depending on the region).
- Touch the screen and hold your finger for 2-3 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- Follow the instructions on the screen: select the language (if available Russian), confirm the choice by clicking.
At this stage, the bracelet will suggest connecting to the phone.Don't miss this step - without syncing with the Mi Fitness app, most features will not be available, including notifications, sleep monitoring and workouts.

If the screen does not respond to touch:
- π§Ό Wipe the screen with a dry wipe β fat or moisture can block the sensor.
- π Make sure the battery is at least 20% (if the discharge is below this threshold, the bracelet may not be turned on).
- π Reboot the device by plugging it into charging for 10 seconds, then turn it off.
Step 3: Sync with your phone via Mi Fitness
To work properly, the Mi Band 6 must be linked to a Xiaomi account via the Mi Fitness app.
- Install the Mi Fitness app on your phone and sign up (or sign in to an existing Xiaomi account).
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and allow the application to access geodata (required for correct operation!).
- In the application, click Profile β Add Device β Bracelet β Mi Smart Band 6.
- Follow the instructions on the screen: confirm the pairing on the bracelet (touch the ticks) and wait for the synchronization to complete.
If the app does not find the bracelet:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet is not displayed in the list of devices | Bluetooth is off or the bracelet is discharged | Turn on Bluetooth, charge the bracelet to 50% |
| Connection error | The bracelet is already linked to another account. | Reset the bracelet to factory settings (Settings β Reset) |
| The application freezes at the synchronization stage | Unstable Internet connection | Connect to Wi-Fi or restart the application |

- π± Update the bracelet firmware (if an update is available).
- βοΈ Set up notifications in the Device Profile section β Notifications.

Common mistakes and their solutions
Even when enabled correctly, users often face problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:

- π Incorrect time display: sync the time manually in bracelet settings β Additionally. β Synchronization of time.

- Contact the service center if the problem persists.
Additional settings for maximum functionality
After the basic setup, you should optimize the bracelet for your needs.

π‘
To keep your phone unlocking stable, the bracelet should be no more than 1 meter away from your smartphone. If the function stops working, reconnect the bracelet in Bluetooth settings.
Reset to factory settings: when and how to do it
If the bracelet starts to work incorrectly (for example, does not sync with the phone, freezes or shows incorrect data), you may need to reset to factory settings. This will delete all data from the device, so pre-sync it with the Mi Fitness app.
You can reset the settings in two ways:
- Through the bracelet menu: Go to Settings β Additional β Reset. Confirm the action by touching the tick.
- Through the Mi Fitness app: Open the bracelet profile in the app. Select Settings β Untie the device. Confirm the undock and re-pair.
β οΈ Warning: Once reset, the bracelet will return to the default language (Chinese or English), you will have to reconfigure the language, notifications and other settings.
If the reset didn't solve the problem, check:
- π± Phone compatibility (some Huawei or Honor models may have restrictions on working with Xiaomi devices).
- π The bracelet firmware version (update it with Mi Fitness).
- π οΈ Physical condition of the bracelet (check for cracks or bloating of the battery).
