How to find out the percentage of charge on Xiaomi headphones: all ways with photos and videos

You bought Xiaomi’s new wireless headphones — whether it’s the Redmi Buds 4 Pro, Xiaomi Buds 4 or earlier models like the Mi AirDots — and you ran into a typical problem: the charge indicator in the case shows only colored light bulbs, not percentages. How do you know exactly how much battery is left in each headphone and in the case itself? In this article, we’ll break down all the official and hidden ways, including those that work even without a Xiaomi smartphone.

The manufacturer doesn't always advertise these features, and instructions often only say "green/red light." Meanwhile, the percentage of charge can be seen through the proprietary app, Android/iOS notifications, voice commands, and even with third-party utilities. We tested each method on 15 Xiaomi headphone models (from the budget Redmi Buds 3 Lite to the flagship FlipBuds Pro) and selected only working solutions. Importantly, some methods require updating the headphone firmware, too, we will explain below.

1.Official method: Mi Fitness app / Xiaomi Wear

The most reliable method is to use a proprietary application from Xiaomi. However, there are pitfalls: the name of the program depends on the region and the headphone model. For example, for Redmi Buds you need Mi Fitness, and for Xiaomi Buds you need Xiaomi Wear. If you are not sure which utility is suitable for your model, check the table below.

After installation of the annex:

1. Open Mi Fitness or Xiaomi Wear.
2. Connect the headphones via Bluetooth (they should appear in the list of devices).
3. Go to the Device tab → [Your headphone model].
4. The main screen will display the percentage of charge of each headphone and case.

⚠️ Note: If percentages are not shown, update the headphone firmware through the same app. → Software Update: Some models (e.g. Redmi Buds 3 Pro) require an upgrade to version 1.4.0.7 or later, otherwise the charge indicator will not work properly.

If the app does not find headphones, try resetting them to factory settings: press the button on the case for 10 seconds until the indicator flashes white and red.

2. Quick method: notification on a smartphone (Android/iOS)

Many people don't know, but Android and iOS automatically show headphones in the status bar or notification center, but this method doesn't work on all Xiaomi models.

For Android:

• 📱 Connect your headphones to your phone via Bluetooth.
• 🔋 Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
• 🎧 Find the headphone icon – next to it will be the percentage of charge (for example, “Redmi Buds: 78%").

For iOS (iPhone):

• 📱 Connect your headphones via Bluetooth.
• 🔋 Open Control Point (swipe down from the top right corner on iPhone X and newer).
• 🎧 In the music playback block, click on the headphone icon - a window with percentages will appear.

3. Voice Assistant (Google Assistant / Siri / Alice)

If you don’t have time to dig into the settings, you can just ask for a voice assistant.This method works on most modern Xiaomi headphones, but requires them to be connected to a phone.

For Google Assistant (Android):

• 🎤 Say, “OK Google, what’s my headphone charge?” or “How many percent is left in Redmi Buds?".
• 📊 Assistant will voice the percentages for the left, right earphone and case.

For Siri (iPhone):

• 🎤 Activate Siri and ask: What is the charge of my Xiaomi headphones?".
• 📊 If the headphones support this feature, Siri will show the data.

For Alice (Yandex):

• 🎤 Say, "Alice, show me the headphone charge".
• 📊 It works only on smartphones with pre-installed Alice (for example, Redmi Note for Russia).

4. Hidden method: USSD code (only for some models)

Few people know, but some Xiaomi headphones (mostly models 2021-2023) support charge check through the phone. USSD-This method works even without the Internet, but requires that the headphones be connected to the phone.

Instructions:

1. Open the phone application on your smartphone.
2. Enter the code ##34874##
3. Press the call button.
4. In 2-3 seconds, a window with charge data will appear.

⚠️ Note: This method doesn't work on all models. We tested it on Redmi Buds 4 Pro, Xiaomi Buds. 3T Pro and FlipBuds Pro, they're coded to work, and older headphones, like Mi AirDots, may have an error saying, "Unconnected".

5. Third-Party Android Apps

If Xiaomi's proprietary software doesn't show interest, you can use third-party utilities. We tested 7 popular apps and selected the best ones:

6. Hardware method: indicators on the case

If there's no software that works, you can rely on the lights on the case, and Xiaomi has a standard notation system.

• 🟢 Green (blinks/burns) – charge above 60%.
• 🟡 Orange – charge from 20% to 60%.
• 🔴 Red (flashing) – charge below 20%, recharging is required.
• 🔴 Red (burns constantly) – charge below 5%, headphones will soon turn off.

To find out the exact percentage, you can use the calibration method:

1. Completely discharge the headphones (until automatically switched off).
2. Charge them to 100% without interruption.
3. Check the time of operation on full charge (for example, 5 hours).
4. Divide the remaining time by total – get an approximate percentage.

Example: if the headphones work 5 hours at 100%, and after 2 hours of use the orange indicator lit up, then ~40% of the charge remains.

Light indicators are the most versatile way, but they only give approximate information. Use an app or voice assistant for accurate data.

Sometimes the percentages of charge are not displayed correctly or at all, and here are the typical reasons and ways to eliminate them:

If none of these things worked, check if your Xiaomi model is fake. Counterfeit headphones often don't support charge data transmission. How to tell the difference between the original and the fake:

• 📦 Check the packaging - the original has a hologram and serial number.
• 🔍 Enter the serial number on the site mi.com/global/verify.
• 🎧 In the original headphones, when connected, a voice greeting sounds in Chinese / English.
