Why Xiaomi Smart Libras Donβt Connect to Your Phone β and How to Fix It
Xiaomiβs smart scales are not just a weight-measuring device, but a full-fledged body composition analyzer with data synchronization into a mobile app. However, many users face problems when first connected: the scales are not on the device list, the Mi Fit app (or Zepp Life) does not see the gadget, and the indicator on the scales flashes red. 80% of the time the reason lies in the wrong sequence of actions or missed Bluetooth settings on the smartphone.
In this article, we will discuss all the ways Xiaomi scales are connected to a phone, from basic configuration to solving rare errors. The instructions are relevant for the Mi Body Composition Scale 2, Smart Scale 2, Mi Scale (first generation) and their clones. If your model is different, check compatibility in the table below.
Before you start, make sure that:
- π± Your phone is running Android 6.0+ or iOS 12+ (Older versions do not support Bluetooth 4.0 for communication).
- π Libra charged (the indicator should burn green when pressed).
- π You have a stable Internet (you need to log in to the application).
Step 1: Installation and configuration of the official application
Without the app, scales won't be able to transfer data to the phone. Xiaomi uses two main synchronization apps:
- Mi Fit is a classic app that supports most older models.
- Zepp Life (formerly Mi Health) is a new app for modern devices (e.g. Smart Scale 2).
How to choose the right app? If your scales are released before 2020, start with Mi Fit. For 2021 and newer models (like Body Composition Scale 2), it's better to use Zepp Life. Both apps are available on the App Store and Google Play.
Download Mi Fit or Zepp Life| Register your Xiaomi | Turn on Bluetooth on your phone | Put the scales on a flat surface | Make sure the scales are on (the indicator is on)
-->
After installation of the annex:
- Open Mi Fit or Zepp Life and register (you can use Google, Apple ID or phone number).
- In the main menu, click Profile β Add the device.
- Choose the category Smart home β Libra.
- Follow the instructions on the screen (the app itself will prompt you to turn on Bluetooth and geolocation).
π‘
If an app asks for geolocation access, don't refuse it, it's for Bluetooth LE (low-energy protocol) devices, and without that, the scales may not appear on the list.
Step 2: Libra activation and Bluetooth search
Now we need to prepare the scales themselves for the connection.
- Put the scales on a flat, hard surface (not on a carpet!).
- Press the scales with one finger, the indicator should light up (green or blue). If the red flashes, the scales are discharged (see "Nutrition problems").
- Open the app and click Add the device β Libra.
- Wait until your model appears on the list (e.g. Mi Body Composition Scale 2).
If the scales are not:
- π Reboot Bluetooth on your phone (turn off and turn on again).
- π΅ Make sure the scales are not connected to another phone (only synced to one device at a time).
- π Check the weight (the indicator should burn for at least 3 seconds after pressing).

Step 3: Synchronize data and set up a profile
After successful connection, the application will offer:
- Create a profile (sex, age, height and goal β weight loss, weight gain or maintenance) that is used to calculate body mass index (BMI) and other metrics.
- Select units of measurement (kilograms or pounds).
- Set up notifications (e.g., reminders to weigh in the morning).
Important: If you've given your height or gender incorrectly, your fat and muscle mass will be inaccurate, and you can fix this later in your profile settings.
| Parameter | How does it affect accuracy? | How to fix a mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong growth | Distorted calculation of BMI and percentage of fat | Go to Profile β Edit β Growth |
| Wrong gender | Changes the norms of muscle and bone mass | Change to Profile β Personal Data |
| Unspecified age | Affects metabolic norms | Add to Profile β Basic information |
| Lack of purpose | The app does not give recommendations on nutrition | Select to Profile β Goals and objectives |
Step 4: First weighing and calibration
To start transferring data, you need to get on them correctly:
- π£ Stand barefoot on metal electrodes (usually located in corners).
- π§ Spread the weight evenly, do not lean on one leg.
- β±οΈ Stand still for 5-10 seconds until the result appears on the screen.
If the scales show Err or Lo:
- Err is a measurement error (maybe you were moving or standing curved).
- Lo is a low battery charge. Replace the batteries (usually 4 AAA batteries).
What do the letters on the scale screen mean?
Once you've weighed it, it's automatically sent to the app, and you'll see:
- π Weight (basic indicator).
- πͺ Fat percentage (norm: 18β24% for men, 25β31% for women).
- 𦴠Muscle mass (indicates the development of muscles).
- π§ Water level (optimum 50β60%).
Common Problems and Their Solutions
Even after a successful connection, there may be failures.-5 problems and ways to correct them:
β οΈ Note: If Xiaomi scales are connected to the phone but the data is not synced, check the app's permissions. On Android, go to Settings β Annexes β Mi Fit/Zepp Life β Permissions and enable Warehouse, Bluetooth and Geolocation.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Libras not included | Batteries are discharged or contact is broken | Replace AAA batteries or check for polarity |
| App doesn't see scales | Bluetooth is off or scales are connected to another phone | Reboot Bluetooth, disconnect the scales from other devices |
| Data not stored | No internet or synchronization failure | Check your Wi-Fi/mobile network connection |
| The indications are very different from mechanical weights. | The scales are not calibrated or stand on an uneven surface. | Put it on the tile, press the button for calibration. |
| Libra shows Err at every weighing | Sensors damaged or overweight | Check the maximum load (usually 150 kg) |
If none of the methods helped, try to lose weight to factory settings:
- Hold the button on the scales for 10-15 seconds until the indicator flashes red.
- Release the button and the scales will reset.
- Repeat the connection procedure again.
π‘
If Xiaomi scales donβt connect after the reset, the problem may be the firmware: Try updating the Mi Fit/Zepp Life app to the latest version or contact Xiaomi support via an in-app chat.
How to connect Xiaomi scales to multiple phones
Xiaomi scales can only be synced with one phone, but there is a workaround:
- Connect the scales to the first phone (main).
- In the Mi Fit/Zepp Life app, click Profile β Settings β Export data.
- Save the data file (e.g. in Google Drive).
- On the second phone, import this file through Settings β Data Import.
The downside of this method is that the data won't automatically update on the second phone, and to see the new weighings, you'll have to export and import the file every time.
β οΈ WARNING: If you connect the scales to the second phone directly (without export), they will automatically disconnect from the first device. Xiaomi does not support multi-connection for most weight models.
Alternative applications for weights Xiaomi
If you donβt like the official Mi Fit or Zepp Life apps, you can use third-party programs:
- π± Google Fit syncs with Mi Fit and collects data in one place.
- π Apple Health β for iPhone users (you need to enable integration in the Mi Fit settings).
- π Yazio or MyFitnessPal are fitness trackers that import data from Mi Fit.
To connect scales to Google Fit:
- Open Mi Fit.
- Go to Profile β Settings β Connected applications.
- Select Google Fit and log in.
- Allow access to data on body weight and composition.
All weigh-ins will now be automatically duplicated in Google Fit, from where they can be exported to other fitness apps.
