Why did one Xiaomi headphone stop working and the other didnβt?
You took out the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots or Mi True Wireless Earbuds case, but you only hear the sound in one headphone? TWS-Headphones -- they lose sync with each other, and instead of stereo, you get mono, and the reasons can be different, from a simple battery discharge to a firmware failure.
Most of the time, the problem is solved by resynchronizing the headphones -- forced resetting of the pair and re-pairing. But before you start tweaking, it's important to understand why this happened.
- π A discharged battery in one of the headphones (even if the case is charged, the earphone itself could not contact the contacts).
- π± Bluetooth connection failure on the smartphone or in the headphones themselves (especially after updating the phoneβs firmware).
- π Automatic connection to another device (earphones could βrememberβ a tablet or laptop and try to connect with it).
- π οΈ Software failure in the headphone firmware (solved by resetting or flashing).
In this article, we will discuss all the synchronization methods for popular Xiaomi models, including Redmi AirDots (2/3/Pro), Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2, Xiaomi Buds 4 and others.
Preparation before synchronization: what to check first
Before you reset your headphone settings, make sure the problem isn't in the obvious.
Make sure both earphones are charged (the indicators on the case are green or white)
Check if there are any physical damage to the headphone contacts and the case
Turn off Bluetooth on all devices, except the one youβre connecting to
Remove headphones from the list of conjugated devices in the phone settings
Reboot your smartphone (sometimes helps with Bluetooth module failures)
-->
If the headphones still don't sync after this, move on to forced reset, but remember, Xiaomi headphones don't support simultaneous connection to multiple devices -- if they were paired with a laptop or tablet, they can "forget" the phone.
β οΈ Warning: Do not try to sync your headphones if one of them is discharged to 0%.This can cause a firmware failure, and then you will need to flash it through the Mi Flash Tool.
Standard synchronization method: reset and re-pair
This is a universal method that works for most Xiaomi models.
- π§ Redmi AirDots (all generations, including Pro)
- π§ Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2
- π§ Xiaomi Buds 3/4 (including)
- π§ Xiaomi Flora and others TWS-model
Algorithm of action:
- Put both headphones in the case and close the lid for 10 seconds.
- Remove them and hold the buttons on both headphones for 15-20 seconds (for AirDots 3 β touch panels, for Buds 4 β mechanical buttons).
- The indicators on the headphones should flash red and white (this is a reset signal).
- Put the headphones back in the case, close the lid and wait 30 seconds.
- Get them out β they must now automatically sync (the indicators will flash synchronously).
- Connect to them via Bluetooth on your phone (the name of the model will appear in the list of devices).
If the indicators flash out of sync (one white, the other red), repeat the procedure. For models with touch control (for example, Xiaomi Buds 4), instead of holding the button, use a 5-fold touch on the touch panel.

If the headphones donβt respond to button retention, try plugging them into charging for 10 minutes β sometimes a discharged battery blocks the reset.
Synchronization Features for Specific Models
Some Xiaomi headphones have unique reset methods, and the table below shows the current methods for popular lines:
| Model | Resetting method | Sign of successful discharge |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi AirDots (1/2) | Hold the buttons on both headphones for 20 seconds (until flashing red) | Red. β white-coloured β flashing |
| Redmi AirDots 3/Pro | 5-time touch of the touch panel on each headphone | Red β purple β white |
| Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 | Hold the buttons 10 seconds, then put in the case for 30 seconds | Blink alternately red/white |
| Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro | Touch the touchpad 10 times (quickly) | Voice Alert "Reset Successful" |
| Xiaomi Flora | Hold the button on the case for 15 seconds (until blinking in orange) | The headphones emit a double beep. |
For models with active noise cancellation (for example, Xiaomi Buds 3 Pro) after reset may require a firmware update via the Mi Home or Xiaomi Earbuds app. If after synchronization, the sound is interrupted or interference is heard, check the version of the software in the application.
β οΈ Note: Headphones Xiaomi Buds 4 and later may require authorization in the application Xiaomi Earbuds for full operation. Without binding to the account Mi Account, some functions (for example, customization of management) will not be available.
What to do if the headphones do not sync after reset
If standard reset didn't work, the problem could be deeper.
1. Checking contacts of the cover and headphones
Over time, the contacts in the case become oxidized or contaminated, causing one of the headphones to not charge or sync.
- π Check the copper contacts on the headphones and in the case β they should be clean and shiny.
- 𧴠Wipe them with a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (do not use water!).
- π Check if the headphones fit tightly into the case - if the backlash is large, the contacts may not touch.
2. Forced firmware update
For models with support for updates via Mi Home or Xiaomi Earbuds:
- Put the headphones on the phone.
- Open the application and go to the Firmware Update section.
- If a new version is available, install it (donβt turn off the headphones during the process!).
What happens if you interrupt the firmware update?
3. Reset via engineering menu (for advanced users)
Some models (e.g. Redmi AirDots 3 Pro) support hidden diagnostic commands to enter the engineering menu:
- Put the headphones on the phone.
- In the Xiaomi Earbuds app, go to Settings β About the program.
- Click 5 times on the line with the firmware version.
- In the menu, select Reset to factory.
This method will only work for headphones with firmware version 1.4.0 and higher, and it is not available for older models.
How to avoid synchronization problems in the future
To ensure that Xiaomi headphones do not lose touch with each other, follow these tips:
- π Regularly charge the case - discharged headphones often lose synchronization.
- π± Do not connect your headphones to multiple devices at the same time (e.g., your phone and laptop).
- π Reset your settings periodically (every 3-6 months), even if there are no problems.
- π‘οΈ Update your firmware through the official Mi Home or Xiaomi Earbuds app.
- π§Ί Keep your headphones in a case β this protects them from dust and mechanical damage.
If you often use headphones in sports mode (for example, while running), check the density of the landing in the ears β poor contact can lead to microinterruptions of communication, which over time disrupts synchronization.
