Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelets are some of the most popular wearables on the market, but even they sometimes require a complete reset. You may have encountered glitches after a firmware update, sell a gadget or just want to start with a clean slate. In this article, we will analyze all the current reset methods for models from Mi Band 3 to Mi Band 8 and Smart Band 7 Pro.
It's important to understand that factory resets remove all the data from the bracelet: steps, sleep history, alarms and attached notifications. However, information in the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app (depending on the model) is stored - unless, of course, you delete the device from your account. We also explain how to avoid typical errors, such as the bracelet hanging on the logo after the reset, and what to do if standard methods do not work.
When do I need to reset my Mi Band?
Don't rush to reset the bracelet the first time you crash, sometimes it's a reboot or a reconnection to the phone, but there are situations where a complete reset is really necessary:
- ๐ Xiaomi bracelet does not sync with the phone despite reinstalling the app.
- ๐ข The gadget is strongly inhibited, does not respond to touches or accidentally reboots.
- ๐ฑ You sell or transfer the bracelet to another person (required for data protection purposes!).
- ๐ง After updating the firmware, bugs appeared (for example, the pulsemeter or notifications do not work).
- ๐ Forgotten. PIN-code for unlocking the bracelet (on models with this function).
If your case doesnโt make it to this list, try rebooting the bracelet first: just put it on a charger and hold the button (touch or physical) for 10-15 seconds.
Method 1: Reset via the bracelet menu (for all models)
The most versatile way is to use the device's built-in menu. The interface may vary slightly depending on the model, but the general logic is the same:
- Swipe your finger up the bracelet screen to open the main menu.
- Find the icon. โ Settings (cogs) and tap it.
- Scroll down to Reset (or Reset, Recovery and Reset).
- Confirm the action โ usually you need to press and hold the screen or select Yes.
On the Mi Band 8 and Smart Band 7 Pro, the path might look like this: Settings โ System โ Reset. Once confirmed, the bracelet will reset and return to factory settings. Reset time: usually 30 to 60 seconds.

Method 2: Reset via Mi Fit or Zepp Life
If the bracelet doesn't respond to touch or menus aren't available, try resetting it through the official app. This method works for all models, but requires the device to be connected to the phone.

- Open the app and go to your bracelet profile.
- Put three points on it (โฎ) top-right.

If the bracelet doesn't appear on the list of available devices after reset, try clearing the cache of the Mi Fit/Zepp Life app in your phone's settings. This often solves connection problems.
Method 3: Hardware reset (if the bracelet is not switched on)
If the bracelet screen doesn't respond and the reboot doesn't work, you have to reset the hardware, and this works on all models, but you have to do the steps exactly.
- Connect the bracelet to the charger (even if it shows 100% charge).
- Press and hold the physical button (on the Mi Band 3/4) or touch zone (on the Mi Band 5-8) for 20-30 seconds.
- The Mi logo or the Reset label should appear on the screen. Release the button.
- Wait for the reboot (can take up to 2 minutes).
On the Smart Band 7 Pro, the procedure is slightly different:
1. Connect the bracelet to the charger.
2. Press the touch button for 15 seconds until you feel the vibration.
3. Release and hold again 10 seconds - the reset menu will appear.
4. Confirm the choice by touching the screen.โ ๏ธ Note: Mi Band 8 and later after a hardware reset may require re-authorization through your Xiaomi account. If you don't remember the password, restore it in advance, otherwise the bracelet will remain locked!

How to recover data after resetting?
Resetting only removes data from the bracelet, not from the app, to restore the activity history:
- Connect the bracelet to your phone via Mi Fit or Zepp Life.
- Wait for automatic synchronization (can take up to 10 minutes).
- If the data does not appear, go to Profile โ Settings โ Data Synchronization and run it manually.
If you deleted your device from your account before the reset, your activity history is saved to the Xiaomi cloud for 30 days to restore it:
- ๐ฑ Connect the bracelet to the same account as before.
- ๐ In the app, select Recover Data from the Cloud (not available on all models).
- โณ Wait for the process to be completed โ it can take up to an hour.
The Mi Band 7/8 and Smart Band 7 Pro also have Backup in bracelet settings, turn it on before reset to save screen settings, alarm clocks and training profiles.

If you are selling a bracelet, be sure to remove it from your app account before transferring it to a new owner, otherwise the new user will not be able to link the device to their profile.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even with the reset done correctly, users face challenges. Consider typical situations and solutions:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet is not reset via the menu. | Charge below 20% or firmware glitch | Charge up to 50% and try again. If it doesn't work, use a hardware reset. |
| After discharge, no activation | Discharge process interrupted or damaged firmware | Connect to charging for 30 minutes, then reset. |
| Not connecting to the phone. | Residual data in Bluetooth cache | Clear the Mi Fit/Zepp Life cache and reboot the phone. |
| Requires an old PIN after being reset | Incomplete reset (account not untied) | Remove the bracelet from your Xiaomi account via account.xiaomi.com. |
If neither method worked, it could be the hardware failure.
- ๐ Try charging the bracelet from another power supply (use the original cable!).
- ๐ฒ Connect to another phone (preferably on Android 8.0)+).
- ๐ง Contact Xiaomi Service Center โ if the bracelet is warranty, repair will be free.
