Xiaomi fitness bracelets are some of the most popular activity tracking gadgets, but even they sometimes require a complete reset. Maybe you bought a used Mi Band and want to delete the previous owner's data, the device started to glittle after the update, or just decided to sell it and clear personal information. In any case, a factory reset solves most software problems, from synchronization errors to screen freezes.
In this article, we will discuss all the current reset methods for Mi Band 3/4/5/6/7/8 models, Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro and even the outdated Mi Band 2. You will learn how to do this through the Mi Fitness app (formerly Zepp Life), a physical button, device menu or forced - if the bracelet does not respond. And also - what to do if the reset does not help, and how to avoid data loss.
When you need to reset the settings of the Xiaomi fitness bracelet
Mi Band settings are not resetting at the first mistake, often when you reboot or reconnect to your phone, but there are situations where a complete cleanup is really necessary:
- π Bracelet does not sync with the application, despite reinstalling Mi Fitness and rebooting the smartphone.
- π± You bought a used device and want to delete the previous ownerβs data (stepmer, sleep history, notifications).
- π The gadget began to slow down, incorrectly display the time or show false notifications.
- π After updating the firmware, artifacts appeared on the screen or the bracelet quickly discharges.
- π¦ You are preparing the device for sale or transfer to another person.
Important: the reset removes all local information on the bracelet β steps, sleep history, alarm clocks, screen settings. However, the data already synchronized with the Mi Fitness app will remain in the Xiaomi cloud (if you were logged in).
Method 1: Reset via Mi Fitness (Zepp Life)
The easiest and safest method is to use the official app, which is suitable for all models starting with the Mi Band 3 and is guaranteed to not damage the firmware.
- Open the Mi Fitness app (or Zepp Life for new models) on your smartphone.
- Select your bracelet from the list of devices (if there are several).
- Go to Device Profile β Settings β Disable the Device.
- Confirm the shutdown β this will automatically initiate the reset.
If there is no βDisable Deviceβ option, try an alternative path:
Profile β Additional β Resetting settings β Confirmβ οΈ Note: After resetting through the application, the bracelet will automatically unplug from your Xiaomi account. To use it further, you will have to re-pair the pairing procedure.
Make sure the bracelet is at least 50% charged.
Open Bluetooth on your phone
Close all background applications that may interfere with synchronization
Take screenshots of important settings (such as alarm clocks)

Method 2: Hardware reset via a button (for Mi Band 2β6)
If the bracelet doesnβt respond to the app or you canβt connect to it, use a physical button. This method works on all models except the Mi Band 7/8 and Smart Band 7 Pro (they have touch controls).
Instructions for Mi Band 2/3/4/5/6:
- Remove the bracelet from your hand and place it on a flat surface.
- Find the hidden button on the back (near the charging connector).
- Press and hold it for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears on the screen.
- Release the button - the bracelet will reboot and reset to factory settings.
π Where do I find the button? 2/3 It's located under the top of the body (you need to slightly move the lid). 4/5/6 β in a small hole near the charging contacts (can be used clip).
What to do if the button is not pressed?
| Model bracelet | Positioning of the button | Retention time |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Band 2 | Under the top lid of the hull | 10-12 seconds |
| Mi Band 3/4 | A hole near charging contacts | 12-15 seconds |
| Mi Band 5/6 | Micro-button under rubber plug | 15 seconds. |
| Mi Band 7/8 | No physical button. | β |
Method 3: Reset via the bracelet menu (for Mi Band 7/8 and later)
Xiaomiβs new models lost the physical button, but got an extended menu.To reset the Mi Band 7, Mi Band 8 or Smart Band 7 Pro, follow this instruction:
- Slide the bracelet screen to the right until you find the Settings (cog icon).
- Select the System β Resetting settings.
- Confirm the action by selecting Yes.
- Wait for the reboot (the bracelet vibrates and shows the Mi logo).
β οΈ Note: Some firmware may call Reset Factory or Reset. If you don't see this section, update the bracelet firmware via the Mi Fitness app.
π‘
If the bracelet doesn't respond to touch, try resetting it via charging: plug it into a USB and hold your finger on the screen for 20 seconds. This sometimes works for the "hung" Mi Band 7/8.
Method 4: Forced reset (if the bracelet is not turned on)
If the Mi Band doesnβt respond to a button or touch, or even charge, try hardware resetting via a charger, which works in 70% of bricks (defaulting devices) and doesnβt require disassembly.
Instructions:
- Connect the bracelet to the charger (use the original cable!).
- Hold the reset button (if any) or touch the screen (for touch models) for 30 to 40 seconds.
- If you see a red/yellow indicator on the screen, release the button. The bracelet will go into recovery mode.
- Wait for the reboot (can take up to 2-3 minutes).
π§ What to do if the bracelet does not respond:
- π Battery discharged - leave on charging 1-2 hours, then try again.
- π§ Moisture is in β dry the device in rice or silica gel for 24 hours.
- π Contact problems β clean them gently with a swallow or alcohol.
π‘
If the forced reset didnβt work and the bracelet still doesnβt turn on, itβs likely the hardware (power controller or battery) that will only help repair the service center.
Method 5: Reset via ADB (for advanced users)
This method is only suitable for Mi Band 4 and newer, as it requires a PC connection via Bluetooth debugging, and it is useful if the standard methods donβt work, but the bracelet is still determined by the computer.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Windows computer 10/11 macOS.
- π± Established ADB Fastboot (you can download from the official Android website).
- π Included debugging on Bluetooth in bracelet settings.
Step-by-step:
1. Connect the bracelet to the PC via Bluetooth (enable debugging mode in the device settings).
2. Open the command line (Windows) or the terminal (macOS/Linux).
3. Enter the commands in order:
adb devices
adb shell
am start -n com.xiaomi.wearable/.settings.ResetActivity
4. The bracelet will display a request for reset - confirm it.β οΈ Attention: Misuse of the right ADB If you're not sure what you're doing, you should go to the service center.
What to do after resetting settings
After a successful reset, your Mi Band will return to a boxy state.
- Charging β Make sure your battery level is at least 30%, otherwise synchronization may be interrupted.
- Pair β connect the bracelet to your phone via Mi Fitness (select your model in the device add menu).
- Update firmware β after connecting, check for updates in the Device Profile β Software Update.
- Data recovery β if you have been logged in to your Xiaomi account, your activity history will be restored automatically.
- Set up notifications β reconfigure permissions for calls, SMS and applications.
π Important: If you have reset the bracelet before selling, remember to untie it from your Xiaomi account in the app settings.
Frequent mistakes and their solutions
Even after the reset, there can be problems, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet does not connect to the phone. | Remains data from the old conjugation | Remove the device from the Bluetooth list on your phone and restart it |
| After reset, the screen does not work. | Firmware came down. | Update the software via Mi Fitness or manually re-flash it |
| Battery discharges fast | Background processes after discharge | Complete a full charge cycle (0β100%) and calibrate the battery |
| No notifications coming. | Permits not configured | Check notification settings in Mi Fitness and on your phone |
If none of these methods worked, there may be a hardware problem (e.g., damaged battery or display), in which case we recommend contacting Xiaomiβs service center.
