Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is one of the most popular fitness bracelets, but even it sometimes requires a complete reset. Screen freeze, sync errors with Mi Fit, incorrect data display or preparation for sale - the reasons can be different. In this article you will find all the current ways of resetting, including hidden features that are not written in the official documentation.
Itβs important to understand that resets remove all user settings, including unlock passwords, sleep data, training and notifications. However, information in the Xiaomi cloud (if synced) will remain. We will analyze three methods: through the application, hardware buttons and a hidden menu of engineering settings β the latter works even when the screen is locked.
If the bracelet doesn't respond to touch or connects to your phone, don't rush to bring it to the service. In 90% of cases, the correct reset solves the problem. And if you plan to sell the device, you can not do without this procedure: the new owner will not be able to link the Mi Band 4 to his account without first cleaning.
1.Resetting preparation: what to do in advance
Before you drop the Mi Band 4, take a few critical steps to keep you from losing important data and make it easier to set up after cleaning.
Sync your data with the cloud. Open the Mi Fit app (or Zepp Life for new versions), go to the bracelet profile and wait until the sync is complete. This will save your activity history, pulse and other metrics. Without this step, all local data will be lost forever.
Make sure the bracelet is at least 30% charged. Resetting at low charge can damage the firmware, and the device will turn into a brick. If the indicator shows red, connect the Mi Band 4 to charge for 15-20 minutes.
- π± Untie the bracelet from your account (if you plan to sell). β Profile β Xiaomi Mi Band 4 β Untie the device.
- π Check firmware version. Outdated versions (below 1.0.9.54) may not be properly reset.
- π Write down the settings: the order of the widgets, the brightness, the alarm clocks, and after resetting them, you have to reset them.
- π Delete payment cards if you have used Mi Pay.This feature is not available in all regions, but when you reset the card data is deleted automatically.
β οΈ Note: If the bracelet is locked with a password and you have forgotten it, resetting through the application will not work. Use the method with hardware buttons (section 3) or hidden menu (section 4).
2. Method 1: Reset via the Mi app Fit/Zepp Life (official method)
This is the easiest and safest way to do this, but it only works if the bracelet is connected to the phone and it responds to touch, and the instructions are valid for both versions of the app: the old Mi Fit and the new Zepp Life.
Open the app and go to the bracelet management section: Profile β Xiaomi Mi Band 4 β Additional settings β Reset to factory settings.
In Zepp Life, the path is a little different:
Device β Device settings β Data reset
Once confirmed, the bracelet will reset and the Mi logo will appear on the screen. The entire process takes 2-3 minutes. If the screen has been stuck on the logo for longer than 5 minutes, this is a sign of a firmware failure, in which case only a forced reset (section 3) will help.
Synchronize data with the cloud
Charge the bracelet at least 30%
Untie the device from the account (if necessary)
Record the current screen settings-->
| Annex | The way to dump | Time of procedure | Does it work when you lock it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Fit | Profile β Mi Band 4 β Additional settings β Reset | 2-3 minutes | β No. |
| Zepp Life | Device β Settings β Data reset | 2-3 minutes | β No. |
| Notify for Mi Band | Settings β The device β Factory Reset | 1-2 minutes | β No. |
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet doesn't connect to your phone after reset, try reinstalling the app and repeating the procedure. Sometimes changing the region in Xiaomi account settings (for example, from Russia to China helps").
Method 2: Hardware button reset (if the bracelet does not respond)
This method will come in handy if the Mi Band 4 is getting stuck, not turning on or locked with a password. To reset, you use hardware buttons -- physical contacts on the bracelet body. You need a pin or a paper clip.
Step 1: Remove the strap from the bracelet. On the back of the body (on the sensor side), find a small hole that says Reset, located next to the charging contacts.
Step 2: Put the pin in the hole and hold it for 10 to 15 seconds until the bracelet vibrates. After the vibration, release the button, the reset process begins. The screen goes out, then the Mi logo appears.
If the bracelet is not vibrating, check:
- π Battery charge (must be at least 10%).
- π Accuracy of pressing: the button should be pressed with a slight click.
- π οΈ No mechanical damage (if the hole is deformed, the discharge may not work).
What to do if the Reset button doesnβt work?
After the hardware reset, the bracelet will be like a new one, you will need to re-assign to the account and adjust all the parameters, and if the device still does not turn on, the problem may be a damaged firmware or a faulty battery.
Method 3: Reset via hidden engineering menu (for power users)
Few people know, but the Mi Band 4 has a hidden service menu that allows you to reset your settings even without access to the main interface, which works if the screen responds to touch, but the bracelet is locked or βgluesβ.
Algorithm of action:
- On the main screen of the bracelet, quickly touch the area under time (where the battery is displayed) 5 times.
- Scroll down to Reboot (reboot) and select it.
- After the reboot, open the engineering menu again and select Factory Reset.
- Confirm the action - the bracelet vibrates and begins to reset.
If Factory Reset is not available, your firmware does not support this menu, in which case only hardware reset (section 3) or firmware reflashing will help.
π‘
The hidden menu also allows you to check the actual battery level (Battery Info) and test the sensors, which is useful if the bracelet discharges quickly or displays the pulse incorrectly.
β οΈ Warning: Do not change other options in the engineering menu unless you understand their meaning! For example, the Clear Pairing item removes the tether to the phone, and Test Mode can disable the bracelet.
5. Flashing as a last resort: when resetting does not help
If the Mi Band 4 doesnβt turn on, freezes on the logo or gives a Failed to connect error, the problem may be the damaged firmware, in which case you will need a complete firmware reflash through the PC.
This will require:
- π» Windows computer 7/10 (Mac procedure is more complicated).
- π Bracelet charging cable (preferably original).
- π₯ The Mi Fit Tool (you can download it) 4pda.ru or xiaomiflasher.com).
- π Firmware for your model (the version should match the region of the bracelet).
Step-by-step:
- Connect the bracelet to the charger and start the Mi Fit Tool.
- In the program, select Select Firmware and specify the path to the downloaded firmware (file with the extension.fw).
- Press Start Flashing and wait until it is completed (the bracelet must vibrate).
- Turn off the device and reset through the Reset button.
| Symptoms. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet vibrates, but does not turn on | Failure of the loader | Fixing through Mi Fit Tool |
| The screen flashes and goes out. | Display plume damaged | Repairs at the service |
| Failed to connect in Mi Fit | Firmware and application conflict | Update both to the latest versions |
π‘
Firmware is a risky procedure, and if you're not sure what you're doing, you should go to a service center, and if you don't have the right firmware, you can permanently disable the bracelet.
6. Frequent errors after reset and how to fix them
Even after a successful reset, the Mi Band 4 may not work properly, and here are the most common problems and solutions.
The bracelet does not connect to the phone:
- π± Reinstall the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app.
- π Reboot your phone and bracelet.
- πΆ Enable Bluetooth and geolocation on your smartphone.
- π Change the region in the settings of Xiaomi account to China (sometimes helps).
The screen does not respond to touch:
- π Charge the bracelet to 100% β at low charge, the sensor can turn off.
- π§Ό Wash the screen with an alcohol napkin (fat and dirt interfere with work).
- π Do the reset again (maybe the firmware has not completely reset).
The steps/pulse data are reset every day:
It's normal post-reset behavior to reconstruct the story:
- Open Mi Fit and wait for synchronization.
- Go to Profile β Settings β Restore data.
- If the data is not restored, it was deleted from Xiaomi servers (this happens in the long absence of synchronization).
π‘
If the bracelet starts to discharge quickly after reset, calibrate the battery: discharge it to 0%, then charge it to 100% without interruptions. Repeat 2-3 times.
7. Alternative methods: when nothing helps
If the standard methods didnβt work, try these non-obvious solutions:
Reset via another application:
Notify for Mi Band (available on Google Play) sometimes works where Mi Fit is powerless.
- Connect the bracelet via Notify for Mi Band.
- Go to Settings β Device β Factory Reset.
- Confirm the reset, the bracelet will reset.
Use of the second phone:
If your smartphone doesnβt see the bracelet after reset, try connecting it to another device (preferably with Android 8.0+).
Update via OTA:
If the bracelet is switched on but is not working properly:
- Connect it to Mi Fit.
- Go to Profile β Mi Band 4 β Update firmware.
- If an update is available, install it. This often solves problems after a reset.
β οΈ Note: Do not use the side of the firmware (for example, with the 4pda) They may contain bugs or spyware. Official firmware is always safer.
